I really really don't want to be entitled. I know fic comments are a ton of work, and I never want to feel like I'm writing just to get responses or that my readers owe me anything.
That being said, sometimes writing in this comment culture is really hard. I'll spend a week on a chapter and I'll be really proud of it, and then I'll get maybe one comment if I'm lucky. Two years ago I'd do the same and get like 5+.
Again, my readers SO don't owe me anything but sometimes it just feels like I'm writing into the void, or people are reading my stuff and don't have anything positive to say. I love my writing and always will, but it can just get really disheartening. I wish more people were willing to stop and chat, even if it's just like. One sentence.
I've been really wanting to write more for this fandom but it's hard to motivate if I feel like no one will read it. Or like those who read don't care enough to tell me.
I Will Follow You Into the Dark Chapter 7: Top of the Tower
You thought I was done with this story because my life got crazy for 3 weeks?
HA! Wrong! I'm still insane about it :D
Summary: Facing impossible odds, Vex and Percy mount a daring escape.
Read it here.
Fic Summary: Drowning in guilt and shame after the events at Whitestone, Percy strikes a deal with a dangerous entity. But he miscalculates just how painful the consequences of his sacrifice might be...and how far a certain Ranger would go to rescue him.
Read from the beginning here.
This chapter really was an effort, so please please read and comment if you enjoy🫶🏼

whats been the yummiest meal/snack/drink you've had recently??
Hehehehe I love this question! I was just on a trip which means TONS of good food!
I did a trip out to a vegan donut shop on this trip (I'm vegan) and the pastries there were soooo fire and there were so many flavors to choose from it made me so happy🥰🥰🥰🥰
Also consumed on this trip: many Trader Joe's taki knockoffs (I love them), a vegan meatball ricotta quinoa bowl, really good enchiladas, & SEVERAL really good cocktails that my friends and I made.
raises my hand. hi we have not talked in a hot MINUTE but as i find my hyperfixation on delilah briarwood comes back i feel this is fate.
OMG IT'S FATE HI🩷🩷🩷
I love Delilah! I mean I want her to get killed with an arrow, but she's one of the show's most compelling/well-written/complex villains. I love that she never stays dead, is hopelessly in love, and also really petty. She's super entertaining!

And if I said Vex wouldn't have submitted to the Whispered One if Keyleth hadn't done it first...
What then?
i'm just real happy for pike. she spent so much of vm being put up on a pedestal and ashley's frequent absences made it very difficult to have a consistent, cohesive character arc that her getting to lose her shit, yell at the party, and ask for her to be supported feels incredibly earned. more earned than a proper bard's lament from scanlan would have
I'm gonna talk a little bit about the submitting to Vecna scene, specifically Vax and Keyleth. As cool as it is, there's a subtle misogynistic undercurrent to it that feels indicative of a broader trend in TLOVM. Bear with me.
The reason I want to talk about this scene specifically is because it's not present in the campaign and it asks the party a really interesting question. Submit to Vecna and save Vax, or try to fight Vecna and probably die while the whole world watches.
Obviously, Vax choosing to die here is awesome! It works great, I think it fits in the spirit of Vax's story, I love it. We know there's no way he will submit to Vecna but we still hope he will anyway, so it's perfectly tragic.
But this moment for Vax comes at the cost of Keyleth.
Vax choosing to die hurts Keyleth emotionally, but having Keyleth immediately submit hurts her characterization. At this point in the story, Keyleth isn't just Keyleth anymore. Keyleth is the Voice of The Tempest, leader of the Air Ashari.
There's nothing wrong with Keyleth submitting here, I think it's interesting for Vox Machina to stumble and give in to selfishness! But it's the complete, immediate surrender that sticks out—Keyleth is super fixated on Vax in this season in a bad way. She doesn't even seem to think about not submitting, just because it might save Vax. In fact, I'm really not sure what Keyleth's arc is this season outside of desperately trying to save Vax's life.
Before her water trial, Keyleth voices the idea that she cares more about Vax than about her Aramenté. This is insane, to say the least. Keyleth here is basically saying that the thing she's spent her entire life working towards means less to her than Vax.
I think this kind of love-driven selfishness can be done well, but must be done carefully with a female character. Keyleth in campaign one (and campaign three!) rides this line really well. Her responsibility to the Ashari feels like its at war with her love for Vax, but not in a way that makes Keyleth seem blinded or stupid.
In contrast, in TLOVM Keyleth frequently seems to completely disregard her responsibilities. In fact, the Ashari and the fate of Exandria are just completely unaddressed and apparently irrelevant in the face of her love for Vax. Who cares about the fate of the realm when Vax and her can get a happy ending. The fact that Keyleth just days ago was sworn in as the Tempest is meaningless, I guess?
Overall, Keyleth in TLOVM (particularly s4) suffers from being written as a little bit of an immature person who doesn't care about anything but "her man". I think her arc in s5 will be to get over that and accept Vax is "dead", but it's a little bit of a cruel shift to change her entire character arc to be about Vax rather than about coming into the mantle of leadership. This feels misogynistic, intentional or not, because it's reorienting Keyleth's story to be much more dependent on Vax.
