As you may have noticed, I have a little worldbuilding project. It's called Wreck Hounds, named because all these guys are metaphorically just dogs living in a junkyard of their own making.
Through some horrible cosmic coincidence, humanity only managed to meet extraterrestrial life by literally crashing headfirst into them, stranding them all in a pile of their own megastructure rubble with no hope of reaching their old star systems. The present setting is a couple hundred years after this Crash, with 7 species trying to coexist in the limited land that they've managed to make habitable:
Not in order, but here are the guys living here and some other stuff:
-Humans (uhhh, still pretty rudimentary)
-Rossetians:

**While I like adding a pinch of biology and realism, Wreck Hounds is by no means a hard scifi setting. There's powers and brain worms and a buncha other silly stuff that I want to have in there, so keep that in mind.
There are a few other important intelligences hanging around (particularly of the artificially created and evil space radiation consciousness variety) and some other important stuff in general I still have to introduce pbut I'll have to add them to this post when I get to actually making updated info on them!
But IF you want to look at my deviantart which has ALL of the things I've drawn, including the now horribly outdated stuff going back to when I first started posting to social media, here it is ->
I'd say a lot if these other than zebra could be canon lmao. If you're looking for a unique/fun face shape to give a rossetian fr just give em the ol Unguligrade Style!!!!!!!!!!!
I've definitely spotted a couple older people, but they were also from older drawings, so the way they age could be outdated by now.
Here sort of, I’ll have to do more detailed drawings later this is just kinda getting stuff out.
Muttreazik too (hidden under a read more if you don’t want to see an albeit very undetailed humanoid elder death). It’s a hot topic whether hospitals etc should stop muttreazik from doing this, since it’s a natural part of their life cycle and it can be more distressing to the individual to try and restrain them from carrying out an almost undeniable internal instinct, but either way they have protocols for the aftermath.
Hypothetically speaking if a face hugger were to infect one of your aliens with muttreazik spores™ would the spores try to go for the developing chest burster?
Or some spores that haven't been caught yet possibly infecting eggs the queen lays? could a xenomorph muttreazik even exist??
Well, the xenomorph isn't canon, but let's put that beast in a situation for the sake of an argument. Several xenomorphs are teleported into Wreck Hounds by [Insert other Intelligence I haven't talked about yet].
I'd probably say no, while the spores would get into everything (chestburster, egg, queen, you name it), they probably wouldnt be able to do anything for a while (by that I mean a few hundo years or more??). This is because I fink the xenomorphs silicon-based or something+has all kinds of weird stuff going on biomechanics wise idk the lore deeper than that, but anyway the way muttreazik are right now they can only play with carbon-based life forms and aimple ones at that because that's all the spores have learned off of :(. Their own genetic absorbing+encoding ability may even be out-competed by the xenomorph in the body. The result would be nothing or sludge. Given time and no other option, though, they may be able to adapt (thats how muttreazik started parasitizing organic life in the first place anyway)
so how long do the parents/caregivers of your species usually wait before giving their children a proper name like bent's family tribe did to them and their siblings.
Plugging the naming post HERE for my own convenience and for a refresh on how the names work in general!! Now on to answering the question:
In the DRSS, human kids are required to have a decided name from the parents within 3 months of their birth (that exact time varies a bit between states. A few insist upon it at birth for medical records).
For Rossetians, the timing depends on if the kid is from an established faction, is from a new one thats splitting off, or from a family that's splitting off from the House as a whole. Names are very important to them since they make it clear your alliances to the House and Faction (important for your Job and future as a whole) so the sooner they can be given the better (such as if your Faction house already has a chosen/documented Faction middle name to give). Some like those from a new Faction may have to wait a few months to get their middle name (as the setting up of the new faction name/allocation of the Houses property and money/documentation goes through), and those from a newly formed House may need a year or more before they can get anything other than a first name (the new House has to establish and prove that it can pay for property space, utilities, etc etc and wont immediately get reabsorbed.)
Prectikar (Drah specifically) are given their full name (with the unique given name+ lineage mentions) by their family's elders at birth, but only get the common name most others know them by that they use in everyday contexts later (their given and/or full name is very intimate and formal). Back when they had an even more crazy infant mortality rate, this naming method was connected to keeping the pup close even after death and a short life: The spiritually significant+highly personal and rooted in the family name remained the only one used for them and therefore made those who knew it "closer" to the pup and the family when they died; there was no "abstraction/distance" between the person and the people around them. The common name creates a polite distance between strangers and family members and is usually given by family or friends as a nickname or descriptor based on appearance, personality, or skills, such as "Bent".
Kixel are also given a name at hatching for record-keeping purposes, and continue to add to it, discard it, etc later.
Cerest larva aren't named until they pupate, being referred to under a code (usually a number or letter string) for organization, records, and documentation. Once they pupate, they share their very private silent name (unique pheremone identifier+scale sign intrinsic to them; it'll show itself on instinct when they emerge) with their unit mates and learn the private names of their Arch, clutchmates, maybe some workers in turn. Titles/class and what else is used for the less-private silent name comes later based on their job position etc etc, while the name they use with xenos/outside the unit (the public spoken name) is often chosen on a whim or simply just the word "Dorest" or something (though technically the public name could sometimes also be considered "given" at pupation, though not personally by the Arch. Some Arches have sweeping preferences for how their workers refer to themselves to xenos, some have everyone go by the same name the Arch decides on and others allow for different spoken names to be decided by the individual, such as Kerik and xeir clutchmates.)
Muttreazik worm names can be sung at birth, their other names depend on the hosts conventions+what ither names they use later!!
-Just how fucked up can a Muttreazik look? Is Azel considered a maximum/close to it, or can it get worse if you’re not a tank baby?
-If a Muttreazik around Azel’s caliber of messed up lost a limb, could they get a prosthetic? I’m guessing no because I imagine most people’s reaction to that would be “Oh my god wtf is that go away.” And also weird body plan would need something custom-made but I figured I’d ask anyway :V
Pretty fucked up yeah. It’s all relative to what their host species is supposed to be like (ex, Azel being Gigantic and a quad walker is a huge issue relative to how humans work but would be a bit more normal if he had had a Prectikar host). He is very close to the end of the “viable” scale when it comes to changing the body plan, eventually the more the spore adds and changes the more Inviable they become/the worse the quality of life or shorter the lifespan. Examples of other viable but highly modified bodyplans that have been documented from human hosts (for clearer reference) are aquatic (often very large, no legs or no arms, restricted to water, inability to speak etc) avians (difficulty walking long distances, high potential for pain+joint issues and broken bones, usually don’t have hands on their wings, some aren’t capable of flight) and quads like Azel (many are unluckier than him and have no thumbs, most can’t stand upright, difficulty making speech or sign) At the extreme end past Azel, there’s more major size differences (usually unsustainable or not supported by body structure in case of larger, or constructive of organs+brain space in case of smaller), additional limb pair additions (often without the necessary structure to make them useable), additional features (like too many eyes, fingers, copies of organs, etc) and eventually we get to glob of flesh territory , missing organs etc.
The prosthetic and aid field for muttreazik is very small and limited for the reasons you mentioned! Depending on what’s going on with their body, they’d likely need something very customized (which takes a lot of money and time). In a lot of cases, muttreazik are using “diy” aids modified from their host species’ existing technology (often using veterinary tech as well, such as copying leg braces made for dogs to provide support for their digitigrade leg etc). They often face discrimination in the host medical field, and end up relying on their own species to actually get care. Someone with extremely obvious behavioral and physical differences like Azel would have a hard time, but it’s not impossible!!
speaking of bend, do they and their species and rest of the alien species deal with dental issues and other health issues caused by their unique faces and their bodies
Some rough doodles of guys with rough mouth stuff. Yapping to reiterate some teeth stuff+working out some new stuff:
Kixeli teeth are thin, and while they aren’t exactly brittle they don’t do well under sharp impacts from anything harder than them . Unlike humans, their teeth are present at hatching, but like humans they lose their baby set and grow an adult set later. Broken teeth happen frequently (again, they’re meant to snare fish not gnaw or pull at anything too much, the beak does that function ), but the tooth can be kept in if the damage isn’t too severe since it’s often more of a hassle to remove the whole tooth. “Snaggleteeth” are also common, caused by genetics or injury that misalign the teeth. Their adult teeth are mostly made from calcium+phosphorus like the rest of their skeleton.
Prectikar teeth are derived from their ancestors beak, and grow right from living pulp in their skull, lacking a closed root like human ones. Outer teeth aren’t present at birth and only grow in later, and can be regrown as long as the pulp in the skull is undamaged/most of the tooth is still there. Aside from the lower canines, the other teeth don’t grow continuously and will only deposit new material if the nerves sense damage. The growth is structured with ridges etc into the shapes we see breach the gum line (ie, the lines I draw on their incisors aren’t because they’re multiple teeth growing close together, it’s one tooth with raised plates that form the broad edges of the incisor. Does that make sense, like they can’t floss between the lines it’s just a single ridged structure, the gums form around the planes of it coming outta the skull. If we’re looking at it liberally all their teeth other than the lower tusks are ONE connected structure to their skull again like a beak but super specialized shapes with gums and lips ok you get it tangent over) They have flat incisors and sharp crushing molars (omnivores) which need about the same care as human ones do. Their upper and lower canines are more specialized, with the upper ones being splayed to sharpen the lower ones when the jaw is opened and closed or when the tusks are positioned forward. The lower ones are the big ol tusk things, which are partially retractable/extendable. These ones are held somewhat loosely in a conic socket in the jaw. If they want to, they can lock the tusk in place in the skull using the bone socket wall+retractor muscle for sturdier action like goring stuff, these days they’re mostly there for display during the courting season and for emoting. The lower tusks grow continuously (if not very slowly) throughout their life, usually ending growth at around the end of their fertility, capping out at around the length of a human forearm+hand or longer! Their teeth have an enamel covering but are otherwise like the rest of their bones, mainly **non-brittle** biosilica mineral composites+protein bonds enriched with manganese.Manganese is deposited on the bone as a binder between special amino acids+proteins in the bone, making them more durable by pulling the chains tighter together! Still wip.
Once they’re old enough to stop drinking milk, Rossetian teeth start growing quickly and do not stop! This quick continuous growth (depending on the individual, up to 5 inches in a year if left unattended!!!!!) means their teeth need a lot of daily maintenance. The teeth are extremely sturdy and insensitive (having a thick layer of protective enamel over any living bits, blood vessels, or nerves) which helped them broaden their available food sources to include Anything I can Crack Open or Chew Apart With My Metal Teeth and helped them gnaw rocks into pieces to supply their digestive system with gastroliths. Nowadays, processed food and commercially available pre-sized gastroliths don’t pose that much of a dental challenge, so they have to go in and shave down the excess themselves. Denying someone a tooth file or other way to artificially grind down teeth is seen as a cruel and unusual punishment or torture method, as the incisors and molars will keep growing until they’re jutting into the face and preventing the jaw from moving to eat or drink. Humans didn’t really take this claim seriously, thinking of it like a non-critical brush your teeth type thing in the early days of the Great War. Every Rossetian they had seen before has these dull little rabbit teeth and the different hygiene habits of the aliens was hardly common knowledge or anyone’s concern, not to mention officers were wary of providing a potential weapon or escape method like a rock or file tool to the enemy. The quick deterioration in physical state of the DRSS’s Rossetian prisoners changed that policy (there’s only so much you can do by grinding your own teeth against each other or trying to get them on a wall or corner. It gets ugly quick). As I’ve mentioned before, Rossetian teeth are coated in an iron+other metal-rich enamel that gives them their strength and durability, alongside some ethnicities’ black or gray colored teeth (white teeth like what is seen in Bicts is due to what other elements it’s bonded with+less oxidation). The rest of a Rossetian’s skeleton uses calcium+phosphorus minerals etc like us and Kixeli :)
Cerest hard mouth bits (beak, mandibles, teeth) are made from mineral+organic composite like the rest of their exoskeleton, kind of similar to Rossetian teeth. The main components are nitrogen containing sugar molecules like chitin, which acts as the depositing point for iron and calcium carbonate in some areas that need harder or stiffer support. For the mouthparts in particular, the mineral bonds and staggered helix-like structure come together to ensure they are very hard and durable when struck into things (approaching the limpet goethite matrix, date I say ). Their beaks etc don’t continuously grow, and reach their max size around their last molt. The ends of Rox and Sundyne beaks sharpen as the top and bottom slide against each other when the mouth is opened and closed, but many also opt for artificial sharpening (particularly sights+prongs, arches, and military members. Conversely, lower class grunts may dull their beak to be less threatening to the resident arch or surrounding Dorest.) Dorest beaks obviously don’t have sharp ends but are much broader and harder; they’re mostly concerned about keeping the ends flat and level so their mouth closes properly and their jaw doesn’t develop lopsided. They need to routinely polish the outer bits to prevent chipping and check for debris in between all the mouthparts (using a variety of picks and brushes to discourage bacterial growth) but otherwise they experience a lot fewer issues+maintenance than humans. Damage to the jaw/beak/mandibles/etc can obviously cause difficulty eating, but doesn’t affect communication as much and isn’t super uncomfortable since their mouth is already dry/not super sensitive.
The first attack in this batch (the pumpkin head character there) became infamous in my head due to unforeseen circumstances. But to summarise: it was a skill issue.
Also attack 87 had some skill issues from me too, did not realise the open hand needed to be flipped! This attack was also one of the more anxious attacks for me as well.
Because I was kind of stressed out by it and the lack of responses, I did debate on whether to post it publicly or keep it till I'm more comfortable of posting it out there. But I realised that some people just don't respond but might do a revenge anyway, so I decided to take the risk anyway. Its just that it took almost four hours and my brain just melted away once I realised I had made a technical mistake and I got too anxious to post it earlier :L
Since I'm starting to prefer Tumblr as a comfort post for Artfight attacks, I might as well play it safe here and post whatever I conjured up from that platform.
Below are a list of characters and owners in case you'd want to find them: (I apologise for the ping; wanted to keep it till I get enough attacks to post all in one)
