As you may have noticed, I have a little worldbuilding project. It's called Wreck Hounds, named because all these guys are metaphorically just dogs living in a junkyard of their own making.
Through some horrible cosmic coincidence, humanity only managed to meet extraterrestrial life by literally crashing headfirst into them, stranding them all in a pile of their own megastructure rubble with no hope of reaching their old star systems. The present setting is a couple hundred years after this Crash, with 7 species trying to coexist in the limited land that they've managed to make habitable:
Not in order, but here are the guys living here and some other stuff:

**While I like adding a pinch of biology and realism, Wreck Hounds is by no means a hard scifi setting. There's powers and brain worms and a buncha other silly stuff that I want to have in there, so keep that in mind.
There are a few other important intelligences hanging around (particularly of the artificially created and evil space radiation consciousness variety) and some other important stuff in general I still have to introduce pbut I'll have to add them to this post when I get to actually making updated info on them!
But IF you want to look at my deviantart which has ALL of the things I've drawn, including the now horribly outdated stuff going back to when I first started posting to social media, here it is ->
Hey yeah sorry I don’t have time to risk my life in the extradimensional radiation pit I have a discussion post due in 2 hours.
Fun fact/info update maybe canon?: She got the arms from the corporation her parents worked for since it was their fault the accident happened in the first place. It was mostly a half-assed charity stunt (the models they gave out are pretty barebones by their standards, minimal internal workings and detachable) the company only did because so many people were affected by it, including children/teens like Zoe (bad press…).It wasn’t free, of course, especially because they now have to deal the maintenance and are now tied to that company for parts and formula to prevent you from having complications.
They’re still dealing with the medical bills, which now mostly fall onto Devin since their parents are dead. Uh dead parents update lol their situation makes more sense to me that way->Zoe’s life getting fucked up timeline: living on the coast+mom is chronically ill, Devin becomes a Conduit so they have to move to Conduit housing, war escalates and they get evacuated to housing elsewhere, the accident happens+parents die+Zoe becomes a Conduit also, try to move to live with their grandparents since Devin is an adult now to allow mom to move back into normal person housing to get better treatment, get diverted by gov to the SEZ in a hotel for a bit during immigration/emigration crisis because they’re Conduits , get locked in the SEZ after border closure, Devin joins a dredger agency for the reduced price housing+tries to continue college+drops out to work full time, Zoe joins the same agency part time to pay for her own schooling and medical stuff (the arm debt was taken out of their family’s assets upon their death and then written off when that ran out, but there’s still the formula/medicines and fixing any breaks/wear or updating their size) . They’re financially ehhhhhhhhhhh ok since a lot of their parents’ debt was dismissed (at the expense of them not having a house or inheritance or anything, which is why they were trying to move) and they are both working and have help from their grandparents. Idk idk
The injury to her arms was complicated by infection and RUU, ending in amputation, and her legs were also affected. The arm docking bits were put in as part of the same surgery to take the meat arms off and patch it up. Current human culture views cybernetics as “better” than normal prosthetics due to the glorification of advanced tech/the old ways (They often have more functions and can look and act closer to the meat equivalent, and technology has re-progressed to the point where some people are taking off limbs on purpose to put them in (in the central cities/core of the DRSS where all the money and development is , but still). But a lot of the time it’s form/appearance first and being able to do a lot of things over being able to do one thing well, like a hook or claw could do.)
why are the human kids on the adoption post doing the cerest arm tuck
They're copying what everyone else is doing!!
Having your arms down for Cerest is moreso considered a "look at me/I'm about to do something/not calm or neutral" thing, and they'll let you know that it makes them on edge if *your* arms are doing too much. Young kids being raised by/around Cerest like those humans are prone to folding their arms or otherwise keeping them close/still because most of the adults and children around them are aliens who are also doing that and are telling them to do so as well.
They tend to grow out of directly copying the arm fold because they get old enough to see it as weird and for Cerest to get more serious about correcting them on the copying(seeing it as more of an insult/mocking because the human should know by now the actual "human resting" arm position they want the human to use, which is crossed up front or held behind your back Im not sure yet).
Since there's a post that goes into detail ranked from how easy to nearly impossible it'll be for a human to raise an alien child, it made me wonder what about the opposite? Would a prectikar have issues finding a fitting artificial pouch for their rossetian kid to go into? How would a kixeli go about teaching their human kid how to swim? I need answers (not serious)
Also depending on each sophont's culture, how are adoptive families viewed as? regardless if the adopted kid is the same species or not
I'm confident that humans are gonna be chill with that
Evil text block superhell. Very unorganized sorry, I don’t think I answered the question lol.
Basically, some people think that it’s weird and that they should be adopted by their own species, others think it’s fine as long as they’re happy. Each kid has their own baggage, care transcends boundaries, and it does happen a lot because these guys are in close proximity (crossing state/country boundaries is still a big deal, the distance between you and an available alien family isn’t in light years but being sent to a new place with people youve never seen and may not know how to interact with is still stressful and scary). From a medical perspective, it isssss much safer to at least seek consultation with their own species; it can be hard to meet their specific needs (ex. food, or advice on a niche problem) and you could be psychologically messing with them and/or putting them in danger by trying to care for them without proper preparation (but I mean, birth parents have those same problems too).
Kixeli are the most open to living with other species, though you kind of have to play by their rules because in their community, youre always the minority (so you need a role in the community, participate in chores, participate with everyone, etc). Their open/accepting lifestyle seems like a dream to some but you still have big responsibilities related to supporting your group/fitting together with them, not to mention other species besides Cerest don’t spend all their time more or less within arms reach of each other and everyone else has trouble navigating the arboreal-centric design of most communities. It can get overwhelming fast.
Many wealthy rossetians have surrogates to carry their pouchlings for them while they’re at work etc, and even people who can’t afford to have people on payroll for that often transfer childcare to their unmarried siblings or use artificial pouches. Humans are the “easiest” cross species adoption choice for rossetians because they don’t grow super big like kar and don’t need to come in pairs like Cerest or Kixeli.
If you’re trying to get Cerest to take in eggs and larva, they may just suggest you cull them if they can’t support more members (even if they volunteer to temporarily take them to help bring the eggs/large through pupation, they are opposed to the idea of Cerest living outside of the security of a unit/clan and would need support for food+education+housing+etc to take them in themselves.) Integration of other species to a unit/clan is seen as a bit inhumane since from their view, other species have no way to fully understand those around them/be a part of the group (a big deal to Cerest) because other species can’t understand their pheremones/can’t see UV. The accommodations for a non-Cerest puts strain on the unit/clan’s resources, meaning it’s seen as the best for everyone that they are raised elsewhere by more capable people/ just try and make in in public housing. The lingering old imperial views that Cerest are above other species and should keep them at a distance also plays a role, more so now that those ideas are actively encouraged alongside the revival of the empire.
perhaps this is a sign i've started to mentally deteriorate but as i was wearily boiling alive in a listless geography classroom today "prectikars at Praktiker" happened to pop into my head and i thought it was vaguely funny enough to visualize. i sincerely apologize if you are not european and feel like i've just thrown your avian gorillas into Night Vale Praktiker is a german hardware store
What are some silly but serious outfits in your world? For example in our worlds, graduation gowns or mayor of London's official outfit or pope/cardinal fits
Some concepts!! Somewhat antiquated but recognizable in their modern clothing (I chose Rossetians and Sundyne because they put a lot of focus on the old ways and their traditionalists go crazy for old styles. With the reformation of the Empire, these have been trimmed down to fit the minimalist new look but still keep the uncomfortableness. Impracticality is actually the goal for Crown dresses, so those stay the same for formal events/ceremonies)
*gun to your head* Draw yourself and write your name
Riley draws and it’s pretty much his only hobby. He’s very secretive about it and probably would need a metaphorical gun to his head to actually show his drawings to anyone out of the blue.
Lee doesn’t have much interest in art but can copy what she’s seen. She likes writing in cursive because it looks nice.
Zoe also has drawing as a hobby, ocs and everything. She really likes anime stylization but hasn’t landed on a style yet. Her hands aren’t great at controlling small meticulous movements so her drawing and writing would look more choppy if she wasn’t focusing very hard on it and didn’t thicken the lines by going over them.
Rinshi doesn’t like what they look like or thinking about what they look like or being made to depict what they look like. They secretly would like to be able to do art but hasn’t had the time (they also give up and get frustrated very easily, especially since Maro doesn’t encourage it). Crooked fingers/general stiffness and shakiness makes writing and drawing hard. They spelled their English name wrong the first time, and I also added an attempt at their Cerest script name ( not canon yet since I haven’t worked on what Cerest written language) but the general idea is that the characters are both spelling their name and showing their status as a part of the Risen Sun clan under Maro (who they are referring to with the 2 circles on top, masculine).
Devin doodles but has several other hobbies that he’d rather do before that. He mostly just does it when he’s bored or when he’s already doing something (like reading or back when he was in class). He has really small handwriting that gets really hard to read if he writes too fast since he’ll start blending the words together and writing them really close to each other.
Maro made a point to be able to draw herself since artistic skill is not associated with sights. She’s very geometric about it because that’s how royal portraits are often done. When writing in English, she tries to make it look like it’s typed. Like with Rinshi, her Cerest script name is subject to change but meant to show she’s an heir under the Emperors (the big circle and crescent). She writes it with two circles instead of two crescents.
If your aliens are in Ben 10, what are their omnitrix samples are going to be called if Ben Tennyson transformed into any of them?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I've barely seen Ben10 but here's some attempts based on their physical traits/abilities?:
Kixeli- Gullfrog (maybe Arasit would be Amphibidactyl?)
Rossetian- Snakeicorn
Prectikar- Owlbear
Dorest- Bug-racer ? Idk dorest are pretty fast that's about it
Rox- Quill-bug
Sundyne- Sickleclaw
(From what I understand he has trouble getting the watch to work right sometimes, I think it'd be funny if he got a Dorest instead of a Rox, or either of those two instead of a Sundyne in a fight)
Muttreazik- Frankenworm (if we're putting them into ben10 might as well let muttreazik be shape-shifters alongside the telekinesis lol. Theyd crawl into a host and alter their form to fight, able to merge the hosts body with other organims)
Average/kind of small family structures! Saying this structure is true for all xeno families is like saying all humans only live with their parents and siblings, not quite true. As you may expect, these can get very big and complex. The number of little icons isn’t meant to be taken literally, it just kind of represents the general idea of the number of each category in the family.
Compared to everyone else human households have fairly few people, but that’s a sweeping generalization made because I’m drawing pretty small family structures here for comparison with each other. Humans live with their grandparents, aunts, and uncles etc all the time, but the western structure with more distant extended family still persists. Having extended family be a part of the household is not the legally-bound default like it is for Rossetians and Cerest, and even with extended family a human household is going to be much smaller than a Kar or a Kixeli one, so I figured I could show our weird little nuclear family extreme for contrast to how differently some humans could grow up (in the other species, a family this small would get absorbed into larger households in most cases unless they were just very financially well off) It mostly just depends on the culture and their financial situation. Human households tend to be composed of parents and their children, though single caretakers, unrelated/adoptive caretakers, or other combinations are also more common for us than some other species. Because humans only produce one child at a time, siblings basically always have an age difference. Humans usually grow up with their parents, who provide resources, before leaving to live on their own, live with roommates, or form a new family with its own autonomy. Property/inheritance is not legally exclusive to either sex and just depends on who the parents choose, who you trace your lineage through depends (matriline, patriline).
Rossetian households are usually composed of a Head House (the oldest parent household) and connected Faction Houses (comprised of the married children of the Heads). Even in very small Houses, the Heads and your siblings are a part of it, you can’t easily just live alone or just with your spouse like a human can (the closest is staff housing, which is a bunch of unrelated people who work in the same area and live in housing provided by that job). The House is a big building with the separate components physically connected by tunnels or within a short travel time of each other. Children are cared for by their blood parents (the roe specifically), unmarried family members (again, normally roes), and/or staff depending on the size and wealth of the House. Once children in a Faction house get married, they either leave to live with their husband (roe) or expand the household/build a new wing to accommodate their wife and kids (Jack). Unmarried children of the Heads live between faction houses, doing childcare and other domestic labor tasks so the married ones can work more. Unrelated/adoptive caretakers are very common. Siblings from the same litter don’t have an age gap, but there can be different aged children in a faction house due to the multigenerational/marriage additions to the house. The Head house (specifically the Jack patriarch) has legal authority over all their children even into adulthood, influencing where they live and what jobs they take. Approval from them is ultimately needed for most important decisions. Single caretakers or people living alone is very uncommon, most are part of a House either by being married in or working as staff. Property/inheritance/lineage is traced through jacks and legally tied to males.
Small Sundyne clans operate similarly to Drecu, but have different divisions for their children and workers. The Crown and Prongs, together known as the Leads, are the only ones having children in the clan (again, strictly enforced). The Crown is the reproductive male leader of the family, and like the Arch manages most of the clan's politics and resources. Xe has legal decision-making power over members of the clan and is the constant/central force in the family. The crown's group of suitors, the Prongs, are less constant and often move between clans due to personal dynamics or politics after they've had kids with the Crown (many sundyne dont know their mom/xe isnt living in the same clan anymore). Monogamy is more common for them than it is for Drecu, but having multiple prongs at the same time is the case sometimes. Attitudes towards it have shifted thanks to monogamous humans, where it’s being seen as more acceptable/favorable to avoid being made fun of (smaller husbant and his giant angry wives). Larger clans, the Emperor clan especially, are structured very differently than this, among other things having fewer prongs to avoid conflict between them for favor (imperial clan strcuture would need to be its own post idk). Childcare falls to the Crown's sons or worker shines, depending on the clan. Prongs help provide security against rival clan sights trying to come in/overall handle disputes on behalf of their Crown. They also help their Crown by carrying out xis orders/going out and about to manage things (especially the other sights). As for the other members of the clan, they're separated between children of the Leads and work-married members. Sight children are mostly there as a way to marry in shines from other clans; multiple worker shines can be bound to them and they act as overseers for the worker shine group, enforcers of the lead shine and the Crown's orders. They also escort the shines around when outside the clan for work. Daughters of the leads ideally stay, but there are usually fewer sights in a clan as it's a very competitive position; you're either a favored Prong who is competing to stay in the Crown's circle or a Sight that is useful enough to stay there as muscle/management. Most daughters that cant make it are work-married in elsewhere as soldiers, retainers of other sights, or as attendants to shines sons-of-Leads in larger clans. They cant move up to prong position unless a Crown chooses to marry them into their clan as such. A clan is mostly male, but only one has reproductive rights and its uncommon for xis sons to stay. Shine children that stay in the clan are few since they pose a threat to their father (they have the right to usurp crowns and "reshuffle" the clan, removing the previous prongs and other children and taking over the clan) Mostly, they are driven out once they come of age or are non-threatening enough to pass initiation and become permanent members, slightly above a worker shine since they perform management tasks to help their father or do ambassador work between clans. Shines that left still aid the clan by work-marrying into other clans, allowing for potential to share resources and land . Most of the clan is work-married shines, who run the everyday tasks of the clan (cooking, cleaning, laundry), perform childcare and so other domestic tasks like teaching or entertaining children. Work-married sights attend to shines (accompanying them to work, running errands, doing other tasks for them) and may perform harder/more physically demanding labor or, if the clan needs it, security/combat to drive off other clans. Still a work in progress lol.
A Kixeli community is made up of mostly unrelated individuals who cooperate to gather resources and maintain their living space. The general population of a community can be separated into permanent members and temporary members. Arasit are temporary by default, it’s uncommon for them to build strong connections to any one community they visit or stay in one place for long (even if they wanted to, cultural pressure usually means they are met with people keeping them at a distance because they’re supposed to leave anyway). All members work to provide resources for the community through different roles. During their spawn season, all individuals who paired up work to raise eggs and children (while those who didn’t pair fill other roles/help pick up the slack. Partners often switch between seasons)There arent eggs or young children in the community for most of the year, and the decision to pair up is influenced by whether or not you want to have to care for many eggs/kids or whether your community can support it. Their season means that like Prectikar, a lot of members in a community can have the same birthday since their eggs were all laid and hatched at the same time. Children are raised by these caretakers until they’re old enough to start working themselves, and often don’t know their blood parents unless they ask for the records. They are free to leave or stay in their birth community and many travel between nearby communities before choosing to settle or continue traveling (which is more uncommon for Kel). Community decisions are made in a council format of all members. Community size fluctuates but generally depends on available resources (can reach over 50 individuals). Living alone is basically unheard of and caring for eggs/children alone is very unusual, but vlood relation has badically nothing to do with childcare as every sex-haver is expected to raise the kids. Kixeli community land is shared, but they may have to name a specific person to own it due to outside pressures.
Muttreazik live in whatever family structure they were born into from their host, though the relationship with the host-parents is often strained or distant. Many end up living on their own or in groups of other muttreazik, which are strcutured as described in the above image. I kind of wrote what I wanted to for muttreazik in the image but yeah, they didn't exactly evolve naturally and whatevers going on with how they're set up is a mystery, an echo of whatever they used to be doing before they got stuck having to use organics for their bodies. In case you're wondering, Other colors like Rinshi elicit a brief but very noticeable unpleasant head sensation in their fellow muttreazik since they aren't supposed to exist. Rinshi especially because they're extra freaky, an Other variant of the Green Type (which, brief lore drop, were the enforcers meant to keep their once basically immortal population size under control and trim any variants. Now that theres none of them left theres a lottt more variants: Others and worse things).
Prectikar households are almost always made up of several generations of adults and their children. People living alone, living with unrelated people and/or people of the same sex (called a Band), or living in a just parents/children format (or worse, single parent) is widely associated with outcasts, unruly youth, or criminals. Tribes are formed of many intermarried families who over time have come to share language and culture distinct from other families. Most families are technically a part of a very wide tribe category (such as Drah or Leki) but most only consider their tribe to be the 3-4 families that their family is directly married with rather than others who technically also share some of their same cultural traits. Living outside a tribe is, again, very difficult and unusual. Extended family from all connected families in a tribe is very close and frequently live together/live between each others housing. Children are often raised by their blood parents, but childcare is also put onto the elders and older siblings/cousins as well since they tend to have more time on their hands. The Elders are the founding members of the family, with most older adults in the group being their children (depending on family size/whose elders are living with who, this can be a lot of people. The elder’s children move up to become elders themselves once the originals pass, and their children move upwards into their previous role and have children of their own, etc). The elders, specifically the hokar, have the authority to appoint the family’s leaders (the matron specifically) and overall provide experienced advice and guidance for the family. The Matron is the leader of the family (the elder’s first three daughters are eligible to be matron, only one is chosen). The matron oversees other members and performs the economic, domestic, and internal legal/governance duties (such as managing inheritance and appointing family positions/jobs/land). Xer husband also has authority, but in the religious and political sphere (they are out there giving more direct orders, are the main speakers between tribes, and have a lot of say in times of combat, but it is on their wife’s behalf. kar can’t appoint leaders and aren’t the ultimate say in a matter, they need hokar input of some kind to be credible). While who has kids isn’t as restricted as it is for Cerest, the Matron is normally the one who has the most due to the three daughters thing: Someone else with daughters could create a succession crisis when they’re all older and the original elders pass away, as they could try and have their daughters become matron rather than the matron’s daughters. Thus, Matron+Elder approval is needed during the season for new partners in the tribe to be chosen. During the season, families and different tribes mingle to try and find new members. Again, sex isn’t restricted like it is for Cerest but conception without approval is a problem-causer (hokar have a lot of uhh anatomical control over whether they get pregnant, so as long as you’re careful and have approval non-matron partners in a family can still go at it). Non-related members living in a family household/as part of the tribe who aren’t partners with an in-group member are rare. Property/inheritance/lineage is passed through the hokar/tied to female members in the family.
Small Drecu households are made up of the Arch and Sires, their worker children, and occasionally some other Dorest workers brought in for their skills or for raw manpower (called a work-marriage). The Arch is the only Rox in smaller units, though has the unit gets bigger some grunts may be brought in to help with worker management (or, if the unit needs security, such as for high-ranking members). Some units also produce a lot of Rox to become soldiers for the wider government in exchange for resources. The decision on what type of offspring comes out after pupation is the Arch’s to make with sire input). The Arch/Sire group are the only ones who have kids (strictly enforced because having children gives you a worker base/influence). The sire and worker base can change depending on the unit’s dynamics, sometimes a sire becomes unpopular and leaves/is switched out and sometimes workers are exchanged. In smaller units, it normally comes down to personal/social dynamics rather than inter-unit politics like the big ones, but smaller units are still under the influence of their bigger neighbors or any unit with a higher class, so the Arch’s decisions can be for politics too. Fluctuating populations are more common in big interconnected units, small ones are a bit more steady if they hold off on making new kids. Clutchmates often don’t know their sire and are not guaranteed to grow up together after they pupate since some may leave for school or work. Childcare falls on the Sires if the unit is very very small and doesnt have excess workers, but normally there are designated worker Dorest for that. The Arch has legal decision-making power over all members of the unit. They hold power within the unit (managingrelationships, economics, labd/resources, and appointment of positions, etc) , and direct power outside the unit through their Dorest. They have the final say in all matters. The sires exercise the Arch’s will in the unit, provide council and support, and manage the network of children outside the unit. Sires are also more likely to leave the unit for work/are the ones managing/arranging trade and land on a small scale outside of their unit. Workers don’t have much say in anything at all, especially if younger.Unit members normally only leave if they are being married into another unit as a sire or sent to another unit as a worker or soldier, since ideally they stay and continue to work to support their unit, though they need Rox approval for this. Unit size depends on their available resources, with smaller units remaining small because they bleed members to larger units and have eggs less frequently due to a lack of space/food/caretakers. Successful units have frequent clutches and a steady flow of new younger siblings, who as adults will build the worker base or leave to live with other units.
As far as I'm aware no one has asked this question before and I'm honestly pretty curious
Important question: do any of the sophonts other than humans get periods or have something similar to them? Related to this is how would sophonts who don't, think of the topic in question- (disgust, Lacking knowledge about it, fascination, etc etc)
Actually another question: what kind of video games would be popular among each species? Is Minecraft also a still existing thing in WH or is it a relic of the past
Nope!! We're unique in menstruation.
I can answer the videogames one real quick: the actual name brands we are familiar with don't exist, but the concepts do (you just can't beat good ol block game). Kixeli pretty much exclusively play multi-player or play single-player games with friends physically present (seeing your avatar alone is scary..), Rossetian mainstream culture sees videogames as stuff for the idle youth, once you get older it better be a farm management game or factory tycoon with mechanics so realistic you're basically at work. Cerest games are almost exclusively to help train children or workers how to do stuff, they have insane-looking word/number memorization ones and a lot of rythmn ones to help people get down the motions of performing a task or solving a problem. Prectikar also enjoy multi-player and voice-chat/chat rooms especially, and usually play games between families or with the family present to watch/commentate. It's also a popular trend among the kar youth to watch xeno streams of games and try to decipher the game's mechanics from their auditory reactions alone, since they can't actually see the screen that well (eye focus favors big and long distance+ colorblind+ frames issue).
Here's some other stuff:
Rossetians have concealed ovulation, where it's very hard to tell that it's happening, no changes whatsoever ( So, like kar and kixeli, they don't shed their lining). They have a very small uterus/very thin uterine lining because most of their kids' development happens in the pouch, so their cycles are very quick and covert. This allows them to be almost continually pregnant if they wanted to, since once the neonate is out in the pouch the next cycle can happen and they're freed up for another to form at the same time. Strange to humans, but evolutionarily adventageous for prey aimals who frequently lost their calves. They view our pregnancy/birth stuff in general with a bit of horror, since it's so horribly painful, dangerous, and time/resource consuming compared to literally everyone else (close second is hokar, who have to give birth through their pseudopenis, but even then thats not potentially life threatening like birth is for humans). They think it's interesting that our reproductive system sets itself up for success through menstruation but oh my godddddd is it gross to them, especially since they also share our iron-based blood and can 100% detect it in the air with their tongue's chemoreceptors (which immediately kicks their lizard prey brain into whowhatwhenwherewhyandhow because there's something that is very close to rossetian blood floatin around).
Kixeli and Prectikar only produce and release eggs during their season, and after which if they aren't fertilized they are reabsorbed (a Hokar's uterine lining wont thicken until there's fertilized eggs present, and Stripe's eggs won't fully form unless fertilized, so its pretty easy). Their hormone spike for both sexes is Intense, though, especially prectikar's (it causes all those feather and skin changes) so having mood swings is an understatement. Prectikar get growing pains/sensitive skin/itchiness as their display feathers and colors grow in, kixeli dont really experience much besides the sudden return of libido lol. It's already strange to them that we can just have kids or want to have sex whenever, the Bleeding adds an extra layer of weird because literally why is it doing that preemptively only to slough off afterwards. Major inconvenience and seems tiring to them. The workings behind it is not that widespread knowledge (not many people are actually that interested in alien reproductive anatomy beyond a passing glance), and if a xeno does know about it its often sensationalized (they BLEED from that HOLE for an entire WEEK!!!!!!) Many misunderstand it as some kind of genetic condition or mistake/oversimplify the function of it (ex. Thinking its juat like, cleaning itself and theres no tie to reproduction).
Cerest kind of come close with their estrus cycles, since those have a big effect on their behavior and physical state, but again their eggs get reabsorbed if not fertilized. These only happen in crowns+prongs (reproductive sundyne) and the arch+sires (reproductive drecu). Their cycle causes a wide array of mental effects( Rox and Prongs may get more easily agitated and impulsive, Sires and Crowns may be more broody and emotionally vulnerable. Yet more proof that this is your destined Role in cerest society, right? Your body reflects it perfectly!!) Physically, they can cause temporary achiness/sensitivity around their parts, nausea, and generally be a bit tiring (body put work into forming eggs and ramping up hormones, and is now keeping levels higher than normal+producing more of your nutrient-expensive pigments to look extra bright and shiny and more pheremones to signal Its Time and I am in the Reproductive In-Group with You+affecting your ability to focus on eating and sleeping). Normally, its once every few months (at most frequent, its once a month), but if its not reinforced by the pheromone/hormone stuff that comes with sex and being gravid, then the eggs will be reabsorbed and the cycle will happen less frequently or not at all (in the case of nonreproductive workers in a Drecu unit or Sundyne clan). The Drecu arch/sires and Sundyne Crown/Prong are characterized by their present and frequent cycles due to their exclusive reproductive rights, and everyone in a unit or clan is trained to recognize a 'cycle' or 'pregnant' pheremone smell in an instant (so anyone who wasn't in the reproductive group that has either of these is toast, thats a direct challenge to their position). Cycles are their specific window to have kids but are tied to activity/social reinforcement rather than temperature/time/etc like kar and kixeli, so the frequency can change as described above. They think its a major flaw in the human design; that is mostly due to how much of a nightmare for them it would be to, from their perspective, waste/lose a Lot of resources like that because of their fast metabolism, it'd have a much larger effect on them physically than it does for us. It's also majorly distracting because of their sensitive antennae, they can't really interpret any of our changes unless trained to but they can register that you smell weirder than normal and a lot. Kar can too btw.
Work in peogress: Muttreazik with human hosts may or may not, it depends on how successful the spore was in coding the body to be sexless, or I guess I should say what sex difference it gave the body in the attempt (the spore still codes for the body to reproduce asexually like the brain does even though thats a relic from when they weren't parasitizing organic life. It keeps doing this because they dont have a way to tell it to stop). Because this results in a complete lack of genitalia and/or gonads or mismatches, it depends on if they even have a uterus at all, much less a lining to shed. Anyway, as a result of this most muttreazik are on some form of hormone therapy because their body won't produce sex hormones at safe levels ( basically always too low of both/either, causing all the associated problems). For human-hosts, the easiest/cheapest alternative to help them out a bit is with estrogen/progesterone, which are already in widespread production for menopause aid.
i have kept my silence for a grand total of four days but within that time I Tried and i discovered that despite my drawing range shunning everything that doesn't have a snout long enough to reach Jupiter i can draw Sundyne. i am coming for them. this is a threat /silly
