regarding bootcamp (his name was Maxwell):
Maxwell is just the littlest bit stronger than Ze physically, but hes sort of a massive pushover so they only actually figured this out when Ze tried to jumpscare him—only to get his face PUMMELLED in by Maxwell through sheer reaction speed. Maxwell couldnt help but sob when apologising.
although Maxwell isnt very good at camouflage (really didnt like getting muddy, not because he is adversed to being dirty, but because he hated the public showers after) he is very good at climbing. He would very often find himself at the tippytop of the tallest trees during training drills rather than hiding in the ground/bushes like the other boys (and Ze, who loved getting muddy—it made him feel like a man) and he was usually one of the last found too.
Maxwell was pretty quiet and preferred to keep to himself, not that he disliked or was disliked by the other boys, he just didn’t have the same rugged energy or any similar interests to anyone there. He was pretty fearless too, when threatened or punished he would very often just stand there and take it, if not ignore it entirely.
This however wasnt the case when him and Ze were found out, being caught by one of the other boys who hated Ze in particular—cuddling with their fingers intertwined after Maxwell fell asleep in his room by accident. The two were questioned the next day by staff and Maxwell spilled his guts out, telling them everything he possibly could through shame filled hiccups and tears, Ze on the other hand denied absolutely everything in a different room, saying that both the boy and Maxwell were liars and trying desperately to salvage what he could of him and Maxwells relationship.
Maxwell got sent home that very night with bruises and lashes that would leave scars lasting longer than they both could love, and for the first time Ze understood the only way he would ever survive in this life would be to lie and lie and lie. to prove himself no matter what the cost was. Ze watched the train that Maxwell was on go with the rest of the boys in his area by his side, and when he eventually went back to his dorm he found a single letter addressed to him under his bed where he kept his gun.
Ze wouldnt open this letter for years until maybe a month before he actually met regect. he slit open the top with an army knife and read what he expected to be a letter filled with hate and betrayal from a boy who was once his best friend, now a man who had moved on and probably forgotten Ze even existed. He couldnt have been further from the truth. Maxwell Westwood had killed himself the very week he was released, and the note that Ze had refused to open all these years was his last words of love to him. words that he had ignored for all this time. Ze cried his heart out for weeks after reading it.
OKAY NOW REGARDING MINECRAFT LOL (he is known as Mac here):
Macs head is a pc monitor! specifically the type that Ze used to love back when he was in school and would play games in the library.
the clothes that mac wears (striped grey jumper, white polo shirt and dark cyan cargo trousers) are same clothes tge maxwell wore when he first arrived at bootcamp.
Mac only exists in the hole, but there is an account that Ze found a week after getting out of the hole called “MaxesBrickWell04” which turned out to be Maxwells minecraft account from when he was young, not only that but it has the same skin as Mac too. it has been offline for 9 years.
while in the hole, Ze and Mac actually lived exactly how Ze and Maxwell wouldve if not for the fact that he died, even if only for a week.
in this au aswell, instead of ze crashing out at regect and realising hes in the hole, he instead yells at mac, shooting him and THEN realising, but only after Mac had died and he remembered just how similar Mac and Maxwell had been.
