So canto 9 huh? Now that I've finished it I have le thoughts
-Honest to god it feels like they tried to do TO much with this canto, I know project moon isnt exactly known for explaining upfront the wacky stuff they introduce into the plot but sometimes I genuinely had to stop and scratch my head like a confused monkey, especially when it came to Ryoshus time blood whatever the hell they had goin on, this will probably be touched on later but I feel thats not something you can just drop on the players head with no exposition and move on from. The Sinclair shenanigans definitely ruffled some feathers but to me it was kinda silly rather then infuriating(especially since we only saw Futureclair for one node) but I dunno this might be a matter of reading comprehension and I just am not paying attention as much as I should
-The nursefathers and their apprentices are probably like my third favorite villains in the series(I'm bunching them together), with the exception of Mathias's PUNK ASS they all left decent impressions. The scene after Gregor puts Lucio on a tshirt was honestly kinda sad, especially with the way Valencia refused to even accept it as reality
-Speaking of Mathias, not killing Kira is a top 5 decision ever
-Gregors "Present unwrapping" scene was honestly very shocking, it was done far better then Sinclairs timeskip tomfoolery I can tell you that much, when it happened it genuinely occured to me how little we ACTUALLY know about G-corp and their involvement in the smoke war cause like waddya mean The lord of the flies is in project moon? Its just a shame that this was the worst fight in the whole game bar none cause its attached to really intriguing lore dumps.
-Oh yeah! The boss fights. They sucked! This canto was trying really hard to be cinematic and it was just hit or miss. Every fight was a slugfest between whatever OP allies we had and the unstoppable nursefathers and after awhile I started double screening and playing Nier Automata on the TV. This could've been easily remedied imo by just letting us fight the apprentices alone but OH WELL(Seriously I hope we never have bosses like this again it actually made the experience as a whole horrid)
-Node 49 was definitely the highlight of the whole canto. Not many words to say tbh I think it speaks for itself. It honestly eclipsed 9-50 by a football stadium length and thats kinda disappointing considering fighting the Index nursefather was my most anticipated fight
-Before I finish this little compilation I wanna say, now that we got the full story? I think a prelude intervallo wouldve done nothing for this canto, its already stuffed full as is I could not imagine how much a intervallo would've helped it at all.
-And lastly the Faust network needs to be hung with jumper cables. Seriously, I did not expect them to be THAT bad
Theres not a doubt in my mind this canto won't be used as a punching bag in about a month for some pretty hot takes and I can totally see why, it was very ambitious overtly so at times to the point of kinda being to much. That being said it was a great experience, not my top 3 or anything but a solid 8 or 7
Canto 10 definitely has a lot to improve upon but I won't say I hate canto 9 maybe in retrospect it'll be worse than I remember but I'll have to wait for the buzz to run off.
For now though! Heres my favorite scene that made me cry all over my keyboard!!!
