anon asked: favorite barbara quote?
volatilejoy:
His alarm went off. That was the only reason Ed dragged himself out of his warm bed and put on not only clothes in general, but his Riddler outfit. If someone thought they could break into the Riddle FactoryTM and set off his alarm, they were getting the whole shebang, not some half assed cock of a response that Eddie would come up with. So the full suit it was, and back to the Factory.
How dare they. And who? WHO would dare break into his precious sanctuary? His kingdom of puzzles? Penguin would. Jim would. Neither of them were in L.A. from what Ed had seen. Zsasz was staying out of his way, other than selling him the Joker’s cards for an obscene amount. Roman. He was the only one idiotic enough to walk all over Ed’s territory. If Ed walked in to find Roman fucking Sionis - well that would be it. No more waiting for Joker to snap back into himself. No more fucking around trying to get his hopeless mayoral campaign off the ground. It’d be done.
Ed slammed the door to his workshop open, and by this point he was seething. “Roman, if you think this is some kind of …”
He trailed off. He stopped and stared. It was dramatic, but he would expect nothing less from Barbara Kean. Barbara Kean who had not only taken a sledgehammer to is beautiful walls, but who had cut his lights so that only the one above her was still lit. Barbara Kean who had cut past his alarm.
I’m going to kill her. Don’t be rash, Riddler. Like you could ever take out Miss Kean.
“Barbara, I hope you know how to run in those heels,” Ed seethed. “What - tell me, made you think it was smart to trash my masterpiece?” He glanced towards his stage. Well at least the elaborate wheel of doom was still in one piece. He’d wanted to put a question mark, but it’d be too close to the Riddler and this wasn’t Gotham. A crime master couldn’t have a clear side gig without being invaded by the police.
-- & Feigned pout crosses her features, a low laugh escaping half a second later, a clear indication that his reaction is more than she expected; pleased with her destruction. "Oh PLEASE, I don't spend bills on anything I can't make a get away on." Besides the point, she had no intention of running anywhere. Not that she thought he would actually hurt her. No, despite everything in their history Barbara knew better than that. "Masterpiece." Singular brow arches incredulously, glancing around before landing back on him. "I thought your speciality was RIDDLES not jokes, Ed. This place --- mmm nope. Definitely not the best you could do." Was it better than most supposed lairs, without a doubt. But was it his best work? Not even close, not in her eyes. Was further PUSHING his limits a good idea, who cares.
Over dramatic sigh as she adjusts her self, shoulders rolling back as she does. "There's too many people from Gotham here, too many new faces. Too many people not under thumb." Freedom wasn't exactly free in Gotham, you earned that shit. LA proved otherwise, there wasn't enough fear. "You said a name earlier - Roman ---- you working for him? I didn't think Riddler worked for anyone without a good price." A pause, curious. "Tell me, PENGY isn't here, is he?"
diamondhvarts:
IT WASN’T VERY OFTEN THAT ROMAN ENDED UP IN ANOTHER CLUB THAT WASN’T HIS OWN, but.. he supposed there was something called checking out the competition and making sure they knew he was there and.. this was exactly what it was. he had heard about barbara kean - she was making quite a name for herself in this little town and.. truth to be told, roman was intrigued. he was intrigued about whatever was going one that made this bitch so popular and.. as always, whenever roman was intrigued about something, he had to go and check it out. and so, he made sure to catch as much attention as he could, before.. eventually, the woman that he supposed was barbara kean appeared and.. roman could only smile.
“that’s me,” he smiled - his smile completely fake, yes, but he didn’t give a damn about that just now. as he stood up, offering a gloved hand for her to shake. “roman beauvais sionis. owner of the black mask club and.. future mayor of los angeles. it’s a pleasure, ms. kean. i’ve heard.. a lot of things about. all them excellent, of course, so.. i figured it was about time we got to meet.”
-- & Ah so that's who this was. Interesting. "So it would seem." Head nods in the slightest affirmation, studying him for a long moment. Definitely well dressed, power practically dripped off of him which begged the question HOW did he gain it? Further more, what was his motive. What was his end plan, here. Mayor, sure but why. There was always a reason behind a move like that, and though she wasn't sure as to what it was? She's already calculating her own moves, a game of chess if you will. "I imagine part of the reason that you're here is that you want BACKING, is that correct?" Another name to his mayor ballet, someone to help bring his name to the forefront, to help sway people in his image. "Then you know I won't do anything for free, mm?"

Barbara Kean. She’d always been a fascinating one. He can remember when she was just Jimbo’s pretty little girlfriend who he was so desperately trying to shield from Gotham’s darkness. He remembered when Falcone had her - tied up, to keep Jimbo where he was supposed to be. He’d seen something in her, something fascinating. And what’dya know, soon she was cracking. She was finding her place in Gotham. It was almost as beautiful as watching Oswald come into his own. Almost. It was always fun to see Gotham break people down though, and Barbara broke so nicely.
He smiled at her, pushing away from the wall he’d been leaning against and stalking towards her. “Hi Barbara.”
It was good that she seemed to be acting civil. She wasn’t pulling a gun on him at least. And he had blown up her shop. Such a shame too. He didn’t even have a chance to snag some more weapons from her before it went boom. Buut Oswald had given him a rocket launcher to do it. Probably to make up for all the weapons that he had to destroy for the sake of war.
“You look as beautifully vicious as ever,” he countered, practically preening at the fact that he looked menacing.
He’d always respected her. It was a shame her and the Boss never got along. Well - they did for a bit, and then they didn’t. As was the way with Oswald. Having friends, losing friends. It was hard to keep track sometimes.
“What brings you out to the city of angels? Is the little bambino around, or is she back with Jimbo?”
-- & People like her and Zsasz needed to stick together. Such a shame that people with such chaotic nature had such an overwhelming tendency to betray those that would further implement their success. PENGUIN. RIDDLER. But that -- was the past and now, now Barbara had a new life to prefect. "Oh honey, I know." The gleam however soon drops from her eyes, his words hitting her abruptly. Was that some kind of S I C K joke? Zsasz was twisted just like she was, but was he twisted enough to use the idea of children to gain some kind of upper hand? No, that she simply can't see.
Yet -------- his facial expression is so painfully serious that it has Barbara second guessing her own reality, her own knowledge. She blinks once and then twice in silence, the information sinking in deeper and deeper with each passing second. "You're mistaken." For a multitude of reasons, obviously. Jim and her were DONE, over and fucking d e a d. Just like she used to be. Children were not something that was in her future, plain and simple, let alone with Jim. No -- that was a cruel joke. "I'm not pregnant, Zsasz." Azure narrows in his direction then, fingers twitching at her side; maybe this meeting wasn't the best idea after all. Although --- were the rumors of different memories, different realities truly possible? "What is the last thing you remember before being here?"
diamondhvarts:
HARLEY QUINN, IN A BAR? it wasn’t very likely, for sure - she had quinn’s vendetta, her own club, but.. sometimes, harley supposed that she liked to innovat. she liked to go somewhere else, to see what everyone else was doing, because.. it was a good thing to know your competition, wasn’t it? and yet, as she kept looking around, she saw a face.. a face that looked familiar, but.. where would she know the other from? harley wasn’t even sure, but.. as she shook her head, focusing on her drink, the waitress came by, placing a drink in front of her.
men, who needs them.
ah, wasn’t that right? chuckling, she looked around, hoping to see whoever had sent the note, but.. apparently not being very lucky - whoever had done it wasn’t around. “this one has the right idea - for sure. come out, come out, wherever you are.. i just wanna chat.” she did.
-- & Even now after several minutes of watching the other's movements, she still can't place her. It's absolutely INFURIATING to Barbara given that she prides herself on knowing everyone, what makes them tick and in turn their weakness. Slowly her hand lifts in gesture, silent notion to let the other know it was HER that sent both the note and the drink in offer. If she wanted to get her empire back up and running here in LA, she needed to know just about everyone in this city, or at least everyone with pull. Frankly with the way other people reacted to the blonde in question, that allow told Barbara she just had to know the other woman, whether it proved to make her an enemy or ally -- only time would tell.
-- & You ever just look and someone and instantly get the feeling that somehow you know them? That’s exactly where Barbara was placed a good twenty minutes ago, watching -- STUDYING a woman. Her movements, even her mannerisms sparked some kind of neurological muscle memory bullshit, and it was beginning to aggravate her. After all she didn’t know the chick from anywhere, face didn’t ring any bells. Could it be someone she’d threatened back in gotham? Potentially, but something tells her that isn’t quite the case. There is, however, something that she is certain of and that’s the need to get the others attention; big or small. Which is exactly why she’d sent one of the cocktail waitresses over to the other, an ofference of strong liquor to the other blonde with a single simplistic message that she hoped would cause the reaction desired.
Men, who needs them.

-- & Places in this city are surprisingly easy to get into when you shouldn’t be there. For a place that boasts so highly of having good security around the clock, be it businesses or banks or even security guards at an apartment building; it’s lacking. Nothing even remotely similar to the strong holds of Gotham --- then again, Gotham wasn’t exactly hard to crack at the best of times, was it? No, if Barbara Kean wanted to get inside somewhere? You could bet your sweet ass she would do exactly that and usually with flair. After all it wouldn’t be all that fun not to cause a little mayhem along the way, rather boring really. If anyone could understand that it would be NYGMA, surely.
Perhaps that’s part of the reason she’s gone the extra mile of over dramatic lighting, purposefully cutting the wiring at each lightening panel other than where she sat. Dry wall smashed in by a haphazardly tossed aside sledgehammer a few feet away from her, wires strewn out of their sockets carelessly snipped with what appears to be a rather dull object for theres multiple cut marks. Okay so maybe she’d only been partly prepared for her dramatics, but hey it worked didn’t it? Point is she got the job done and that was half the battle, obviously.
“NYGMA.”
Name is called in melodic tone the second foot steps grace her senses, amusement etched across fair features from her perch. Oh how she had missed the other, if only for the nature of their relationship as it stood. TILTED. ASTRAY. CORRUPTED IN BETRAYAL. Dainty fingers tap lazily at the porcelain clutched against her palm, sapphires glued to the presenting figure. Interestingly enough he didn’t look all that different from the last time she saw him, still the ever smart dresser he always was. Striking. “Y’know I was beginning to wonder if you were going to l u r k forever.”
@volatilejoy
-- & Time was more fickle a mistress than fate herself. Fate could be an out right bitch but time? Oh time could be interesting. Time was the one thing that could make people see the truth, could make or break a plan and could certainly change a person into who they were always meant to be. “Zsasz.” The two of them were examples of just that. Neither of them were the same people they were upon the first night they met. No, time had changed them. Carefully moulded them into the people that they were now, the meticulously calculated people they were. That version of Barbara had been scared and WEAK, she hadn’t been ready to let go. To delve into the her own truth that was just waiting beneath the surface. Waiting for her to wake up and realize who she was meant to become, who she was capable of being. All that changed the second her parents were out of the picture and boy was that a life time ago.
Surprisingly the smile that catches her lips isn’t as feigned as she anticipated it being, if anything there’s a half hearted genuine notion to it. “It’s been a long time, hasn’t it.” Did the sense of familiar civil tidings mean that she had forgotten or FORGIVEN him for blowing her club to smithereens? Oh no, not by a long shot. No, there was never going to be a moment in which she forgave what she lost in that instance. There was too much riding on that place, too much that held there. Of course it was easy to move forward when you had SPITE fuelling you. That, however, was the past and this was the here and now.
Azure moves slowly over imposing form, admiring that if there’s one thing about Zsasz that hasn’t changed it’s his prowess. The natural looming t h r e a t similar to a shark in it’s watery home. A constant comfort when the pale man was concerned. “You look....” Trailed words as if she’d attempting to find a positive word to use, as if she doesn’t know exactly what she intends to say. “Deliciously menacing.”
@volatilejoy
-- & The amount of idiots in LA was astoundingly higher than those in Gotham, a fact that Barbara never thought possible. After all wasn’t Gotham home to the likes of Butch. That is beside the point for at least LA is a breath of fresh air, it’s new territory and in that same instance? It’s a new K I N G D O M to reign over and lord knew that’s exactly what she intended to do. The underground was much easier to get a hand into than it was back in Gotham, she barely knew anyone here and yet it was as easy as knocking off a few people and paying off the others. Simple really. Never keep anyone too close or too far, a leash system. However with a leash system there’s always one teeny tiny problem --- it develops kinks.
Why was it always MEN that had to ruin a good thing? You never saw a woman --- nevermind, Lee ruined her fair share of things in Gotham. And everyone knows how much Barbara desired to drive a overtly POINTED edge into the womans skull. None the less there was a particular man that happened to be a kink in Barbara’s leashing system, and frankly she was over it. Exactly why she had sent a henchman to set up a meeting between herself and said man, it’d taken far long than she wanted but eventually she’d gotten the response she wanted. Persistency is key, isn’t it.
UGH. Could they go any slower if they tried? Impatience is practically carved into the blondes features, hip jutted out against her car in the empty warehouse. Goons weren’t entirely needed for this meeting but anyone would be STUPID not to have them anyways. For instance the illusion that you’re here alone is far more intelligent than to have six people with guns standing inches behind you. No, she’d been very specific when telling her men to keep their distance; they were excellent at following orders. Thusly when another car finally makes its entrance into the warehouse it’s not a moment too soon, her posture remaining as it was until her idiot got out of the car with the K I N K himself, only then has she stood up right with hands clasped behind her back.
Silence other than approaching foot steps after the dull thud of car doors shutting, gazes exchanged between three parties and then as if it’s second nature a gun shot rings out. "My apologizes.” Calm demeanour re-presents itself as her hand lowers, gaze shifting from her former employee to the man of the hour. “One can never be too careful with the help, I’m sure you understand, mm?”
@glcryngcre
-- & It’s not every day someone drops large amounts of money at a table, or rather by one’s self and not for a grand gathering of people or for a family. It’s a a trade mark usually of those wanting to get her attention and as such the staff of the restaurant know to come and get her from the back office when it happens, with specifics unless they want a rather nasty response from their b o s s. Lately it’s been dreadfully boring, quiet even. Tonight however there’s a tip off from one of her waiters that a table’s ordered more than needed for one individual, far more. “Interesting.” Singular word slips past painted rouge, gaze finding the table the second she’s made her way onto the floor. No, this man is definitely not one of her men or the regulars. Which begs the question as to WHO is he? Better yet --- what is he trying to prove?
“You,” Chair is pushed out with a lazy kick to it’s back legs, nimble form situated posed upon it a mount later. “Are a man of impeccable taste it appears.” Money and prowess, it seemed. Curiosity has the cat by the tongue, crimson daring to stain. “To what do I owe the pleasure, honey?”
@diamondhvarts
Hold on, did I just see ERIN RICHARDS?! No, sorry, that was actually BARBARA KEAN, but they can get that a lot! You might know HER as a CANON from GOTHAM/DC.They are 32 years old and have been living in Los Angeles for FOUR MONTHS, and DO remember their old life up until JEREMIAH ATTEMPTING TO BLOW UP GOTHAM TO CREATE CHAOS AND ORDER. Here in the city of dreams, they are a OWNER OF A GREEK RESTAURANT and when one thinks of them, they think of THE SHINE OF A SILVER PISTOL, PERFECTLY MANICURED NAILS & DESIGNER HEELS. I guess you never know who you’ll run into in Los Angeles!
