Project #8 art statement

“Flow” is performance art inspired by Jackson Pollock 51. I choose water and watercolour as the material to work with. I started to add different colours in the water and mix it in the water. In the beginning, the water was just really clear. Then after I add a few different colours in it. It started to look muddy. In this way, I can show the movement of water. And also, my work represents the human’s mind. Everyone born with a clean mind. But after years and years, there are always different thoughts adding to people’s minds. Then for sure, the mind gets muddy the same as the water. The main theme of Jackson Pollock’s work is really just express his own feeling and show the movement of the paint. That’s how I got inspired.

Project 7 art statement

“Born In Freedom”, is a hybrid media artwork. It is the juxtaposition of drawing and photography. First, I draw the wings physically in traditional art form and scanned it to digital. Then, I collage it together with the photos I find on the internet by using photoshop. For this project. I got inspired by Ben Heine. He invented an original visual concept mixing drawing and photo. His work is an already beautiful-looking photo that is enhanced with a sketch that adds a splash of satire and whimsy. So I combined the drawing and photos then collage them all together to create a beautiful piece. The concept of my work is based on the quote from Ralph Ellison, Invisible Man, “When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.” The girl running towards the natural represents my inner self is eager to be in a free form and enjoy the world. And the flowers at the back means freedom since the flowers are from nature and they grow on the ground and they can be any form in their way till they die. I choose line as the element of media art, the birds create the directions to the girl’s body’s so it can deliver the viewer’s sight to the main part. And the principle of media art is hybridization. I combined traditional art drawing and photographs together in one piece.

It is about a little fish running away from the big shark. I choose this story because I think I am the little fish trying to beat the problems in life. The most obvious element of art is the line I think. I choose curve lines to create the fish shape. The principle of art in the work is emphasis. In the beginning, I only choose to show the little fish so that the viewer can focus on the little fish.

In our normal life, we probably don’t really spend a lot of time at home with our pets because we are busy with work, study, or other social life. However, we are the only person in the pet’s world. During this global pandemic happening, I’m stuck at home with my cat and I’m happy about it so that I can spend more time with him to have fun.

Project #4 Art Statement.

My work is a digital fashion collage made by photoshop. I was trying to explore how to mix fashion trends in the Golden age and the latest fashion trend altogether so that the design is a combination of both time period fashion. And especially I am obsessed with fashion in the Golden Ages so I think it would be interesting to combine these two different fashion styles in one piece. The most dominant element in the piece is the colour. I use the half yellow jacket which is the warm colour tone on the top of the dress so it can pop out easily and direct the eyes to the clothes. And the most important principle is the asymmetrical balance in the artwork. It makes the artwork look more stable in this way and direct the attention to the body more. The main idea in this piece is basically exploring the mix of the fashion trends in the Golden Age and nowadays. Overall, I do love how the final piece comes out and looking really cool.

Project #3 art statement

My artwork is a digital collage made by photoshop. It is a self-portrait that shows my personal belief in the buddha. The artwork is about getting my own mind clean and pure. The most obvious element is the colour I think all these lotus leaves are green and the flowers are pink, which can show the contrast and look balance. And emphasis is the most obvious principle since the leaves are all green and the flowers are pink or red so it directs attention to the flowers by the colours. I create the artwork with photoshop. This piece is definitely express my own faith in Buddha and how I understand it. The lotus flower emerges from murky waters perfectly clean and beautiful, so it is also a symbol of purity. I hope my mind can always be clean and pure so I edit the flowers with my face. And zen gesture means praying in Buddhism. My goal is to try to express my own feelings and explore the deeper meaning in life through art as an artist. This piece for sure helps me to dig deeper meaning since I still on the surface of understanding the real meaning in the buddha. In conclusion, I think I learn how to create the artwork more interesting and express myself more clear. The final work is actually looking better than my sketch since I added more elements to make it look full. And I will try to dig the deeper meaning of buddha through art in my future.

“Barbie”

My work is named “Barbie”, which has an irony meaning shows the juxtaposition of normal beauty standard and the freedom of female mind. I choose photoshop to build up my artwork. The most obvious element in my work is color. The background, mirror, heavy stone and the female body are all in grey and white that I used on purpose since I think it is a sad trend nowadays to show my sadness. The barbie doll is colored because I want to make it irony and most of the people always judge the female body which caused a social issue that most of the females want to do surgery to look all same like the barbie dolls. The white circle part around the female body means the natural body of a female which is colored. And the flowers are also colored because I think it’s an element of natural beauty that the female should be like that. The theme of my artwork is “breaking freedom of female body”. As an artist, I hope I can break all the judgment about the female body so that all the females feel pretty as they naturally get when they were born. Overall, I do like my artwork. Also, the final piece is the same as I planed when I did a sketch. This work will take me further in my future for my future artwork so that I can dig deeper meaning of “breaking freedom of female body” and make better artwork.
