One of my favorite pastimes was scrap booking. It was the perfect way artistically to share with family and friends memories of trips and special times in my life. However, nowadays printing out pictures and putting them into an album to share is a thing of the past. So in adapting one of my favorite pastimes with the technology of today, I present my "virtual scrapbook" of Matt and my Asian adventure.
Back in the U.S.A.
After 15 crazy months in Asia, we finally headed back to NYC this week to start our next great adventure. We have truly enjoyed writing this blog and hope that it has provided even just a glimpse into the amazing food, culture, and people of Southeast Asia.
Incense coil ceiling at Man Mo Temple in Hong Kong
Lunch dim sum at Lin Heung Tea House
For our last dinner in Hong Kong we visited one of their hawker centers which specializes in seafood. We had another amazing meal, feasting on fresh steamed fish, clams, and my favorite sweet ribs.
People in Hong Kong love to go hiking. Matt and I love to go hiking. It was a match made in heaven. Today we hiked a 10km path through the mountains of Hong Kong, via a path called the Dragons Back, and ended at a beautiful beach called Big Wave Bay. The scenery throughout the hike was unreal as we got views of multiple sides of the coast. It's crazy to think that this area is only 45 mins away from the hustle and bustle of the main city center.
Today's lunch at one of Hong Kong's well known tea houses.
Post hike Hot Pot dinner!
One of the great things about the hostel we are staying at, Check Inn HK, is the daily activities they organize around the city. We joined a big group from our hostel on an "urban hike" up the peak of Hong Kong Island. While most tourists pay to take the 10 min tram ride up the peak, our group took the more natural option and hiked up to the top. It really was a delightful hike through the streets and up the natural forested path to the top. The views as we went and from the top were breathtaking.
Most of the “Dai Pai Dong” (food vendors) in Hong Kong have been removed from the streets and put into “Cooked Food Centers” but there are a few that remain including this one where we had some delicious Cantonese food last night.
Saturday dim sum at the Michelin Star rated restaurant One Dim Sum in Hong Kong. Baked pork buns, egg custard buns, various dumplings, ribs, and fried tofu filled our table. It was a tasty feast!
I love roasted meats! We tried this Hong Kong favorite dish at a hole in the wall place near our hostel.
Matt doesn't miss a chance to try a country's craft beer.
Hong Kong is known for their egg tarts. Let's just say we have had a few of these lovely treats these past 3 days.
The famous Star Ferry. I love the seats!
