Been a minute since I've been on here. With everything going on, though, I decided to wander back over. Not long after my last post, on November 30th 2023, I came downstairs after waking up and found my best friend, my platonic soulmate, my ex husband dead in his room. Nearly everything since then has been cripplingly intense or complete dissociation. I don't remember huge parts of 2024.

My chosen family and my partner are the only reason I've survived. And my cats. I can't let them lose their only remaining human.

Now... I don't even know where to begin. As someone in the US, I'm absolutely fucking terrified. For more reasons than my brain knows how to handle.

Neurodivergent - ADHD/ASD assessment steps initiated, with two mental health professionals pretty certain of ADHD already.

Diagnosed CPTSD - part of which comes from being in the unbelievably abusive troubled teen industry, making the threat of "farms" from RFK terrifying on a level I don't know how to accurately communicate.

Bisexual, Genderfluid, Transmasc - I feel like that one explains itself.

History nerd, with a particular fascination in events from 1914 - 1950. History nerd + enhanced pattern recognition skills is not a combination I'm happy to have right now.

I've never really known what to do with Tumblr, but I'm hoping I can find community here.

Feeling a lot of "you shouldn't feel that way" sort of feelings lately. A lot of "you can't give up" sort of feelings. A lot of things that usually, when shared outloud, people try to shut down. Sure they mean well, they don't want to see you hurting or struggling or anything like that. Intense, heavy, difficult emotions are hard for a lot of people to witness though. People don't want to sit in their own discomfort, so they try to change how you feel.

If you ask me, all that really does is lead people to stop saying things outloud, to stop sharing when they're feeling some kind of way. Because what that behavior tells them is "you're not safe to share that with me". So they don't share it.

Random late night thought

"Just don't let it get to you" is some of the most worthless, dismissive, ableist bullshit advice in existence.

I've spent an inordinate amount of my life trying to figure out precisely how the fuck to accomplish this and feeling like an utter failure for not being able to.

Yeah, turns out that's gaslighting and generally said because the other person has all the emotional maturity and intelligence of a mishapen turnip and your very real, valid, natural emotions are too much for them. It's said because they lack the ability to even attempt to understand how trauma works, how it changes the brain and what happens on a chemical level when trauma is activated. Or how much damage the "don't let it get to you" bullshit actually does.

Makes me want to keep a spray bottle on me for anyone who says this or something like it to me. I doubt it would do any good in changing them, but at least it would be entertaining for me and possibly get them to leave me alone.

RESIDENTS OF OKLAHOMA:

This is a pretty unusual post for me but I wanted to at least bring awareness to it: an Oklahoma senator is trying to ban porn, end no fault divorce, ban abortion, and a few other things outlined in here. I'd say the part about raising the punishment for sex crimes against children is good, but I'm aware that this may just be a way to throw the book at LGBT people.

I don't live in Oklahoma, but I find this bill concerning because the senator is really putting an emphasis on "returning to morality". He argued that porn objectifies people, and while I can kind of agree with this, I think the better course of action would be more sex education and possibly funding for healthy relationship courses for teenagers. It's very clear that this is a Christian-oriented policy change. There's nothing wrong with being Christian, but we live in a country where everyone can choose to follow whatever religion they want, so I don't think religious values belong in our laws. I also don't think laws outright banning pornography would be productive or beneficial. This is very clearly a stepping stone to Christian nationalism. It's also not very clear on what is meant by pornography here? It could possibly include comics you draw, fanfiction you write, or could just be random videos you film with your partner. I have no idea.

If you live in Oklahoma, call your senators. Email them, write them, do whatever you need to do. Contact your local representatives. What adults do in the comfort of their own homes should be nobody's business unless it is actively bringing harm to someone else
