I wish that grief was more logical.

I wish that the five stages flowed into each other, one after the other, like stairs. I wish they didn’t move back and forth, repeating or skipping or jumping between each other or feeling more than one at a time.

I wish they had time limits. I wish it was a prescribed amount of time to feel denial, and anger, and bargaining, and depression, and acceptance.

I wish grief fit into a color coded life.

I wish I could control grief, so it wouldn’t feel like it was controlling me.

I wish denial hadn’t been numbness.

I wish bargaining hadn’t seemed like weakness.

I wish anger hadn’t made me seem funnier, because now it just seems mean.

I wish depression wasn’t now.

And I wish acceptance didn’t feel like failure.
