I thought I'd post the guys I didn't quite like enough to put in my previous post because they have their good points in spite of being weird as hell
Lead residue from bullet fused into bone.
In movies and comics and stories, when someone survives being shot, they just remove the bullet and that's all.
In real life situations, as the bullet leaves the barrel of the gun and travels through the air, the metal gets extremely hot.
When it comes into contact with a hard surface like bone, it's like dragging a piece of chalk across the pavement. It leaves a metal residue that gets fused to the bone itself.
The gray part on the photo is the lead residue from a bullet. It only grazed the bone here, but still left behind residue.
Over a period of years the lead can slowly start to leach out from the bone causing lead poisoning.
Long-term lead poisoning is something that's not often talked about with gunshot wounds, but this is how it happens. Even if you remove the bullet fragments, its not enough, because you can't remove the residue.
You can't remove the lead residue but you can give medications to lessen the impact of lead on the body.
I almost never see this mentioned in stories except for medical dramas. But honestly it would be great to see this touched on more.
Because.....well....there's all these badass characters in fiction who survived being shot multiple times and they're just portrayed as tough and battle-hardened. But among themes of survival, the lasting impact of these types of injuries is rarely explored.
Grafitti at Ekibin, South Brisbane, Australia. Man's a goddam hero to so many he'll never know.
'Ain't that the truth...
I drew some creatures for an exhibition at beloved local queer bar the Bearded Tit, loosely based on my fellow bar-goers.
Hiatus over, love seeing your work again!
Amazing pottery skills
Flawless
This is the most technically proficient pottery throwing I've ever seen. The economy of motion? Literally everything in one pull, one squeeze. Absolutely no even minor touch ups required. This shit is like watching a skilled magician even as someone who knows how to throw on the wheel. I am watching this the way that someone who is great at a few card tricks watches Penn and Teller.
Road trip
OMG Mutt looks incredible here!
I think about the meet a lot -- dream about it, mostly -- and how much i miss simply sitting around a table, at the counter, on the deck overlooking the pool and the shore, and listening to the conversation. hearing the guys "talk shop" (work, video games, etc), make jokes, yell emptily at each other. i even miss being hounded to get in the pool. i miss being tortured by acer's long youtube rabbit hole playlists. i miss sharing a bed with mark and just talking about whatever silly thing we did during the day or whatever else came to mind. i miss people barging into the room and dog-piling on the bed, until the frame breaks, and the subsequent think-tanking of how we can hide the fact from the renter. i miss the random disappearences of people who wander off to the beach to do drugs, then stumble back to the house out of their minds and up for anything.
i miss the late nights where things start to quiet down, then raise up again because the delerium of tiredness makes the dumbest things funny. i miss the chaos and calm of it all, how the meets felt like a true gathering of friends, how they all felt like second family.
it genuinely saddens me that it's a thing that "was", instead of a thing that still is.
if any of you gffer's are out there reading this: i miss you, truly.
The power of group friends right there. XO
Thanks to my previous neighbors, there has been a bit of a rodent problem near our building (I live in a townhouse). My neighbors and I have been working on keeping them away from the building via traps and other devices.
Well, some briars behind us in the neighboring property were cleared and it spooked a couple of rats.
I was cleaning my little back yard and noticed something come in from under the gate. I didn't have my glasses on so I initially thought it was a squirrel or small rabbit since we get those too. Until I realize it's keeping to the fence line. Squirrels and bunnies don't keep to a fence line like that. I take a hard look and realize it's a rat.
It made it half way up the fence line towards the building before my dog noticed it and just went for it. Cornered it and killed it. I had never seen my dog do that before. I was just busy raking the clippings from mowing and all of a sudden, all the hair on the dog's back went up and he lunged towards the fence. Not a single sound out of him. Just lunge and chomp and now we have a dead rat.
Obligatory pic of the stone cold killer.
Oh good boy!!! The instincts are sound, D, and Draco snapped into predator mode. Fantastic! He'll forever be wanting to find more rats now!
So I married the guy I met in early 2010s tumblr
Also, personal thanks to @backtobass for introducing us in the first place
OMG OMG YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 Congratulations!!! And I'm so stoked you found each other, even moreso via me!!! This is just brilliant and wonderful and I'm so honoured to know you both, even from all the way over here in Australia! <3 'Newcomer' did good, haha! Bless you both in all things, as individuals, and as a couple. XOXOXO

Sometimes when I'm down on my art, I remind myself...
I went YEARS without even sketching. I don't think I drew anything from 2015-2020 outside of a silly drawing or two.
I have no formal training in art. The last actual class I took was in high school, 20 years ago.
I am using a borrowed, dated, iPad with only Sketchbook to doodle on.
On top of working full time, I'm also a parent and spouse with a home and volunteering commitments, to say nothing of writing I do on the side. Being able to garner a smidgen of free time to practice my art is a damn win.
I'm doing this shit for fun and because it makes me (and my kids, and sometimes the Internet) happy.
Prints available in my store!
Fuck it. Murdoc sketch.
