Sisterhood of the Glowing Moon:
Home to Gems dedicated to the worship of the Mother of Moons (Moon Goddess) and the healing and psychic arts. Founded by the late Moonstone the Enlightened, the history of the Sisterhood dates back to pre-Era 1 Homeworld during which time they were regarded as the utmost practitioners of gem healing and psychic training.
However after the rise of the Diamond Authority after the Great Unification War, the two organizations became at odds with each other on many occasions during Era 1; the most infamous of which being the Martyrdom of Moonstone, whose denouncement of the legitimacy of their rule led to her public shattering after being betrayed by her fellow sisters in order to stay the Diamond’s wrath and ensure their continued survival.
This pact of tolerance, however, ended violently during the Earth Rebellion, when Sisterhood Gems joined the forces of Rose Quartz after their leader, Abbess Blue Jade, expressed her public support of the renegade Gem. This lead to White Diamond calling for the destruction of any of the Sisterhood’s Gems who did not fall in line with Homeworld, leaving only those who were willing to concede to her demands.
Despite being around for seemingly countless millennia, precious little is truly known about the faithful of the Void Mother and the tenets of their religion. What is known is how the Cult and it’s followers were dedicated to the study and recording of both the universe around them and phenomena taking place within it. In fact, it is said that the libraries of the Cult contained volumes upon volumes of not only research and observations but also countless volumes of secret histories and truths written from the neutral, and often cold, perspective of the cult’s observers.
However, these volumes and more were lost during the vast purge of the religious orders of Homeworld following the Rebellion, though not to the violence called forth from the Diamond’s wrath. Long forgotten (or rather sequestered) reports from the attempted purge of the Cult’s main temple, the Blackstone Obelisk, detail many accounts of the complex being swallowed up by a thick, impenetrable layer of mist and fog before seemingly having vanished from the face of Homeworld itself along with the Obelisk’s occupants and the treasures contained within.
To this day, there is still intense debate (in secret) amongst the more ‘open-minded’ of Gemkind’s great thinkers as to what truly happened to the Cult of Void, some claiming that the cultists had used long lost technology to transport their home to a safer location while other more eccentric views believe that the Void Mother had rewarded her faithful by delivering them from destruction.
The truth may never be known…
The Order of The Blazing Sun:
Dedicated to the Mistress Solar (The Sun Goddess), the Order of the Blazing Sun is home to proud warrior Gems from all across the Gem Empire seeking to hone their skills. Unlike their opposite number, The Sisterhood of the Glowing Moon, the Order doesn’t bother with long arcane rituals and ceremonies to appease their patron deity. In their eyes, the best way to prove one’s devotion to the Sun Goddess is on the field of battle seeking glory or a worthy end.
Rooted in the long forgotten time of pre-Era 1 Homeworld, the Order of the Blazing Sun was founded by Sunstone the Enkindled as a mercenary band during the great upheaval that followed the fall of the Firstborn Empire. As word of their deeds and victories grew, many Gems flocked to Sunstone, some seeking fame and fortune while others sought camaraderie amongst fellow warriors. Soon the Order established itself as a force to be reckoned with after Sunstone herself shattered the tyrant, Bloodstone, and claimed her colonies for her own and built the first temple to the Sun Goddess upon the ruins of Bloodstone’s once mighty fortress. There her fellow warriors and the liberated colonists bequeathed to her the title of Grandmaster along with the tyrant’s once feared sword, Gem-Eater.
But like many others, the Order fell victim to the Diamond’s purge following the Rebellion, with many of their former strongholds being put to the sword. It is said that the then Grandmaster, Red Phantom Quartz, shattered legions of Homeworld soldiers single-handedly with the ancient blade before finally falling herself to give her remaining sisters time to flee the destruction of the first temple. Where those few remaining warriors are now or the fate of Sunstone’s sacred weapon has been lost to the relentless march of time…
By far one of the largest and most diverse of the four orders, the Fleet is home to Gems from all walks of Gem society bound by a common goal. That being, the exploration of the vast and infinite universe and the mapping thereof. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands, the Fleet holds all manner of vessels from numerous eras, even pre-Era 1. The rarest and most venerable of these are the Star Chariots, vast, ancient ships so massive that they are often mistaken for moons. Many speculate that these ships are remnants of the high technology left behind by the Firstborn Empire, which would explain why the Fleet and the faithful aboard them guard them so jealously.
Of the four orders, the Fleet took the least amount of casualties during the Great Purge instigated by the Diamonds, though the losses they did suffer were still great. One of their greatest casualties was the loss of the Star Chariot, Grace of the Lady, and Admiral-Canoness Jadeite after they were ambushed by Homeworld forces while en route to Homeworld for resupply. This dealt a massive blow to the cohesion of the Fleet and led many of it’s vessels to flee into deep space to avoid destruction. To this day, many of the Fleet have either gone into hiding in the furthest stretches of the galaxy or have devolved into roving bands of guerrillas and pirates in order to make Homeworld pay for what they did to their order.
While it is true that most Gems do revere the Diamonds greatly, there are a few who take their devotion to fanatical extremes. These Gems are, more often than not, members of what has been dubbed ‘The Diamond Cult’. Members of the cult believe that the Diamonds are goddesses incarnate representing the purity of Gemkind over organic lifeforms and their divine right to rule over the cosmos.
While not officially condoned, the cult is tolerated for the most part as there is very little threat of rebellion or treason and has grown to encompass Gems from various parts of the Homeworld social strata. The tenets of the cult preaches, among other things, strong messages of galactic conquest in the name of the Diamonds, outright hatred for any form of organic life, and complete and utter loyalty and obedience to the Diamonds.
And since the Rebellion and the death of Pink Diamond, Rose Quartz has become something of a demonic figure in the eyes of the cult, many of the older and more fanatical of it’s members having taken part in the war for Earth as an act of holy retribution for the crimes she and the rebellion committed against the holy Diamonds.
