“Dearest Embry, This is kinda weird, writing a letter to myself, but Mrs Carlton says I have to. You remember her, right? Old age hasn’t muddied your mind too bad, has it? Last night mother informed father of her infidelity. I expected father to kick her out right then and there, but he says he loves her and can’t do that. I don’t understand, maybe you do now that we’re older? Father says you don’t give up on the ones you love, but love isn’t one sided, you know? Love can’t mean just ignoring cheating! Ugh my skin crawls just thinking about it! I can’t believe she would ever do something so vile! You better not have forgiven her either, Older me! Jessie and Ginny both say it’s not a big deal, but I think it is. Mother just threw everything into the fire and dusted her hands off! What kind of mother does that? Whatever though, I guess, not like she has ever been the best mom or anything. Father will come to his senses soon, I hope, and just kick her out and move on.  Anyways, what’s it like in our life now? How much has changed? Are we married with babies yet? Did we finally tell Father we were going to college, his opinion be damned? We better have done Marine Sciences like I want! The Ocean seems to be the only safe space anymore.  I hope you still love the ocean. The feel, the taste, the sound -- the ocean is home above all us, never forget that, okay Older Embry? The bell is about to ring... I waited until the last minute to finish this, do you remember? Mrs Carlton has been giving us the stink eye since half way through the assignment haha. Embry is a Marine Biologist working currently at Sea Life Aquarium. In her free time she is mostly found hiking, practicing with her Kalimba, training and playing with her dog, or surfing! She also collects Seashells, shed deer antlers, and bones she finds from deceased animals in nature.

TW; emotional/mental abuse by a parent, BPD, ADHD, and self image issues Embry O’Connell; Snarky, sarcastic, and loyal to a fault. Embry was a very secluded child growing up, and years of mostly solitude lead to a very firm belief in black and white - good vs evil. It has only been in recent years that she has mellowed out enough to realize that her father’s ideas were not necessarily the best idea to take on for herself.  Five years ago, Embry met Thierry Jameson at a dog beach. It is because of Tee that her view point began to change and she came to realize life isn’t so black and white.  The more time she spent with her new friend, the more devoted she became to her other friends when she realized she didn’t have to agree with all of their choices to still love them just as much as she had before they made those choices. Thierry’s random quips and snarky comments have rubbed off onto her a good deal and she tends to be rather sarcastic and snarky herself these days.  Bry is an animal lover -- she went to school for Marine Sciences and has been working at Sea Life Aquarium for a little over three years now and wouldn’t give any of that up for anything.  Not one to back down from a challenge or shy away from a little competition, Embry is always ready for a good tumble or debate or argument. She does, however, have a tendency to take things personally so if things become too heated, she is very likely to duck down for a few days after to talk herself back up to speaking to that person again. She has a temper, a red hot fiery temper that ignites at the drop of a hat. She has a habit of making sudden, rash decisions that she really leans on Tee to prevent her from really getting herself into trouble with.  Embry has ADHD and Borderline Personality Disorder (aka, BPD); she has always struggled with her self image and how others might perceive her, especially when the ADHD flares up. Her father was never kind about how she looked, always forcing her to dress nice and dainty; the times she didn’t, he mocked and ridiculed her for looking like a boy or being ‘overweight’. Wearing tanktops left her with comments of asking her if she was some dime-slut on the corner. She still struggles not to see herself these ways, and sometimes can lash out at people if they say anything about the way she looks or dresses or speaks.  All in all, Embry learned from an early age how to be on her own. She struggles to rely on others for fear of them letting her down or not living up to her own expectations of them. She has a heart of gold once you crack through that sheltered wall, so long as you can ignore the temper, ADHD, and BPD. She’s loud with friends but reserved with strangers, except for on the job where she always has a quick smile and warm word for the children.

Or I like the cinnamon roll characters who have a snarky side but prefer to let others lead the way. favorite plots: I love big family plots! Dysfunctional families, and adoptive families. Families that have dirty secrets and lots of internal problems. I also love bromances and slow build relationships.
