TW: antisemitism

I was hesitating saying anything because the goal was originally to just ignore @/badbatchdefense as much as possible, but after the antisemitism they espoused yesterday I feel like I can't keep quiet.

I myself am not Jewish, but I have Jewish friends that I'm very close to, and I'm working to always be aware of antisemitism wherever it may be. So when I see posts like this

I can only imagine, if it made me as angry as it did, how badly it makes my Jewish friends feel.

That's why I said there was no space for antisemitism on this blog, and why I followed up with that there's plenty of space for Jewish people. That's why I asked for Jewish headcanons. That's why I tried to find the other posts I've reblogged about space!Jews.

Antisemitism is a form of bigotry that isn't taken seriously at all. It's in the carrd (Cid) and I'm informing more and more people when I can, but clearly people like @/badbatchdefense just don't care.

Some people may like what OP is attempting to do otherwise--bring positivity to the fandom. But when they tokenize and speak over multiple PoC, diminish what we say in favor of saying it's "just a cartoon" (in which case......why make an entire blog defending it) and keep doubling down

You have to ask yourself if this is the kind of person you want spreading positivity in the fandom--someone who smugly tells Jewish people talking about antisemitism to shut up. Repeatedly.

whitewashing numerous characters including the Bad Bad, Saw Gerrera, and Caleb Dume

making the whitest clones the smartest and having the most accurately brown clone (Wrecker) be large, aggressive, and treated as intellectually inferior

having the "genetically enhanced" (whitewashed) clones hate the rest of the (brown-skinned) clones, derogatorily calling them "regs"

showing accurately depicted people of color in predominantly antagonistic roles

an antisemitic "greedy lizard people secretly manipulating events" character

with The Bad Batch having racism issues on so many levels, it is very clear that Disney, Lucasfilm, et al have a serious lack of input from people of color and minorities in general in the creative process for this series

If you ship rexsoka I immediately loose all respect for you. Even the age issues alone, either way you slice it the age and/or maturity gap is huge. We don’t even need to get anything else. Also Ahsoka is a lesbian.

#unwhitetbb isn’t just about skin tone.

Yes, the lightening of the skin is a HUGE issue. And it’s completely unacceptable.

But it’s also about features.

You CANNOT tell me these two characters have the same facial structure and features.

In red, I highlighted the BIGGEST changes in my opinion. (Don’t even TRY to argue “it’s just the art style” because CW designers made TONS of characters with round features, just not MAIN characters)

Temuera has an incredibly round (and beautiful) face. His jaw is a soft line, and his nose is just a large oval. The Clone models have sharp features. Rex’s jawline is a square. His nose is just three squares.

Temuera also has hooded eyes. The Clones are animated with bigger, “Disney” eyes.

The Bad Batch show is making people FINALLY notice the issues we’ve had with the Clone models for years. It’s time to step up. #unwhitewashtbb

Clones

I see a lot of people talking about the clones as if they aren’t just that, clones. Copies of one singular person. That person is Temuera Morrison

While, yes, Maori people come in a variety of beautiful shades and colors, the clone are not Maori people, they are clones, of one guy, who looks like this. Earlier seasons of Clone Wars respected this and modeled the clones to match Morrison’s skin tone, but later seasons saw the clones with much paler models and The Bad Batch has only made this issue worse. Speaking of seasons, a lot of arguments for the clones’ current complexion or Omega’s hair and skin specifically come around to Arla Fett, a character who appears in a comic called Open Seasons. This comic is Legends, firstly, so Arla’s existence isn’t even confirmed in canon. Also, clones don’t randomly pick up traits of other family members the way a baby with unique DNA might. There may be some slight mutations like variance in eye color as shown in canon, but these are not inheriting traits from Jango’s different family members. That’s not how cloning works. Plus Open Seasons if has its own mess of whitewashing so drawing design inspiration from it is pretty much forfeit anyway.

You expect me to believe this dude is Temuera Morrison? And as an additional note, digging into an actual person’s family tree and using evidence that supposedly excuses the issue based on dead family members is extremely rude and disrespectful and in my personal opinion, creepy. And it still doesn’t matter what Morrison’s family members look like, because the clones are clones and Omega is a “perfect genetic copy” and that’s still not how clones work.
