A Strangel is formed when a human wanderer in the backrooms comes into contact with any painting depicting a biblical angel. These paintings are described to have a psychological pull which increases in effectivity based on the personal religious views of the affected party. Once physical contact is made with the painting, an infection immediately begins. The skin will begin turning into an ashen black color, and the bones within the body will stretch to increase height, proportional to the original stature of the body. Wings will begin sprouting from beneath the scapula. The wings bore through the skin bent entirely closed and already covered in feathers. Once fully grown through to the second joint, the wings will open. They are non-functional. Some Strangels are formed with mutations, like: more/less than two wings, feathers growing from random parts of the body, bone twisting during growth, and other body deformities.
Strangels usually stick together in groups, much like humans, and hunt human wanderers or other non-Backrooms originating life forms that have noclipped. They eat whatever they catch, due to an intense hunger. Their intelligence level ranges, some Strangels still hold human intelligence, but their need to consume overtakes rational thought.
After transformation, certain characteristics stay prominent, including: hair appearance, sex characteristics, eye color, body type*, dental characteristics, and pre-mutation deformities. (as the body stretches, the fat percentage of the body stays the same, leading to the emaciated appearance of many Strangels)
