Thank you!
Weâve come to the end of the aplhabet, and youâve all been absolutely amazing, whether you managed to submit a couple of times, or every day! It was awesome and inspiring, seeing the fandom come even more alive - letâs hope we can do it again sometime :)
For those of you who still want to submit their remaining letters, feel free, of course!

Bagginshield Alphabet Day 26:
Z is for⊠Zzzz, sleepy tiny Bagginshield! (because it was much easier to make than the scenario of them as zombies in a zeppelin throwing zucchinis in ziplock bags at zig-zaging zebras belowâŠ)
And with that, the challenge is finished! \o/ That was so much fun to do, and such a pleasure to discover all the submissions, congrats everyone! What a brilliant idea to encourage the fandom to contribute with Bagginshield content, thank you @bagginshieldalphabet (so, when do we start again? ;)). Itâs been quite a challenge to manage and make something on a daily basis, but what a great motivation and inspiration itâs been. Thank you for all the likes & reblogs, a warm welcome to my new followers, and a big hug to all of you! ^_^
Z â Zinnia
Bilbo would never forget the day Thorin Oakenshield, King under the Mountain, came into their chambers, arms full of flowers. As he had stopped laughing, he fetched various vases and plucked the flowers colour by colour out of Thorinâs arms.
âDonât sulk around, you big oaf. It is not everyday that a heavy armoured Dwarf enters these chambers, laden with Zinnias.â
âYou know these weeds?â
âWeeds?!? Well ⊠I have you known that those are perfect respectable flowers, loved by many a Hobbit. Some sow them in their gardens and are able to have the most colourful meadow come spring.â
âAnd why do you separate them now by colour?â
âI donât sort them by by colour, I sort them by meaning.â
âOh?â Thorin looked sheepishly at the vases. âWill you tell me?â
âThe scarlet ones mean constancy. The yellow ones mean daily remembrance. Whereas the white ones mean goodness.â
âAnd those?â Thorin pointed at the magenta flowers that filled a big vase. Bilbo smiled. âThose mean lasting affection.â
Thorin embraced Bilbo in a big hug.
âI love you, my Burglar.â
âI havenât burgled anything in my life, you must know!â
âYou have burgled my heart.â
âOh you old, sappy and ridiculous Dwarf. Come down here and kiss me.â
As they parted breathless after a good minute, Bilbo reached for a yellow flower and weaved it into one of Thorinâs braid.
âWhat do you want me to remember, Bilbo?â
âDo you remember what I said to you as you made me show you the Acorn I had found at Beornâs?â
âHow could I not!â
âWell, I told you that one day I will remember everything. The good, the bad and how lucky I am that I made it home.â
Thorin nodded.
âI do. I will remember everything that happened on our quest. I will never forget one single thing. I will remember the good. I will remember the bad.â Thorin grimaced in disgust.
âWhy would you remember that?â
âTo forgive and to go on living we must remember everything. Even the bad. Understood?â
Thorin nodded. âAnd ⊠home? You never made it back to the Shire.â
âNo. I didnât. But I made it home. I made it to a new home. A home with the Dwarf I love.â

It was the end of a very long day, and Bilbo and Thorin needed a break from their duties. After making their excuses to the council, they quickly retired to their room.
âWell, canât say that weâre not getting the job done,â said Bilbo.
âNo, but weâre not getting anything done fast enough,â said Thorin. âEvery day, people come in here making demands that are imposible for us to meet. We wonât be able to fully rebuild the kingdom at this rate.â
âI see,â said Bilbo. âWhat do you suggest that we do about it?â
âWe go to bed, lock the door, and tell Dwalin to scare off anyone who wants to disturb us,â said Thorin.
âWhat?â Bilbo cried out, but Thorin picked him up and carried him to their bed. âTime for bed, Bilbo Baggins. Youâve worked too hard and you need to rest.â
Bilbo tried to protest, but he was just too tired to argue. He curled up in the bed and fell asleep. Thorin frowned as he blew out the candle and crawled into bed besides Bilbo. âGood night, Bilbo,â he whispered as he too fell asleep.

âHere, shouldnât we wake âem?â
âNo, no Sam, letâs leave them be. They let us take a nap when weâre tired.â
âAye, I know⊠but they did promise to help us make biscuits,â young Sam replied, torn between being polite and letting the two tired adults sleep on, or giving in to his childish desire for sweet treats.
âHmm, they did,â and now little Frodo was conflicted too, because what fauntling this side of the river would ever pass up the chance to make chocolate chip biscuits (and thus get to eat them as well)?
Frowning as he weighed their options, Frodo rested his chin upon folded arms on the arm of the chair Bilbo and Thorin were curled up in together as he regarded his uncles with gentle fondness. The pair had been gardening all morning whilst looking after Sam and him at the same time and Frodo knew first hand that gardening and dealing with littler ones could be very tiring; so they did deserve a nap. Then again, the promise of biscuits was a tempting lure, and Frodo did wonder if it would be terribly rude if he just so happened to need to cough at that very moment and by chance the sound might waken his dozing uncles.
Sam stood just off to one side, shifting from foot to foot as his eyes darted from his elder (and therefore far wiser) playmate, and the two adults who were supposed to be teaching them how to bake. He would await Frodoâs lead and follow suit.
In the end, Frodo breathed out a gentle sigh and dropped back down from the balls of his feet. Making to move away from the armchair he paused to shuffle round so he could lean up and press a kiss to both Bilbo and Thorinâs foreheads; thatâs what adults did to fauntlings when they were asleep, right? Therefore, it made sense Frodo should do the same for his uncles.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Y â Yavanna
Blessed. They had been blessed. All through the Mountain you could hear those whispers.
It had already been a miracle that Smaug had been driven out of Erebor and had been killed. It also had been a miracle that the Old Dwarven City was inhabitable again after some repair. More so it had been a miracle that Thorin son of Thrain had woken after a long healing sleep.
This must be the blessing of the Valar and most of all of the Maker, Mahal. This was the consensual agreement all Ereborians shared. Even more so, they also had the blessing of the Makerâs Wife, Yavanna.
It has been heard throughout the Mountain, that the Queen of Earth had been really pleased that one of her children had helped reclaiming Erebor and had fallen in love and married one of her husbandâs.
Blessed. They had been blessed.
Yavanna smiled as she watched an altar in her honours being build inside Erebor. Yes, she was right in the decision to bless the rebuilt of Erebor. The Dwarves started to cherish things that grow in addition to all things of stone and metal. She also smiled as she watched King and Consort paying homage to her on the new altar, kissing as they left the blossoming cave.

Bilbo stays up past bedtime, lost in his books, and Thorin has learned that it is better to distract him if the hour grows too late, or deal with a foul-tempered Hobbit the following day. Luckily, it is a duty he is happy to fulfil.
Bilbo wakes with the dawn, early in Summer, late in Winter. Thorin finds this very strange, rising and retiring every day at the same time, with the discipline of a warrior. On Summer mornings he finds a cup of tea waiting at his bedside when he opens his eyes, and in Winter, he will sit quietly in bed until the sun rises, watching Bilbo sleep, unwilling to disturb him.
Thorinâs hair spreads across his pillows and sometimes gets into Bilboâs mouth. Bilbo doesnât mind, of course. Itâs when he pulls a long black or silver strand from his armpit or the crack of his arse that it unnerves him slightly.
Bilbo has a most endearing snore. It doesnât arise until Bilbo mentions in passing how annoying he had found it on the quest, to be surrounded by honking Dwarves every night. Heâd remarked how glad he was that Thorin does not, and declared himself sure that no Hobbit would ever be so horribly noisy.
When Thorin points out that Bilbo does, in fact, snore, his husband is very fetchingly flustered by the news. âItâs a little snore,â protests Thorin soothingly. âLike a baby goat.â He receives a pillow in the face for his pains.
Thorin is warm in his sleep, and lies very still. In Winter, Bilbo can tuck his cold feet under Thorinâs wide, muscled calves and the Dwarf will endure it without complaint. Itâs delicious. In Summer, Bilbo casts the sheets aside, sometimes even pulls his nightshirt off entirely in his sleep, overheated and damp with sweat, because his unconscious self will not allow him to lie beside Thorin without pressing up close to his skin.
Neither one of them is much troubled by dreams, or nightmares, or wakeful nights. Their sleep is deep and peaceful, safe in each otherâs arms.

W for a Walk in the Woods
Z is for Zzz
He knew Bilbo would fall asleep before he finished reading. He always did. And as always, Thorin would mark their place in the book, set it down on the side table and carefully manoeuvre his way out of the hobbitâs grip. He would go around the room and extinguish the candles, put the fireguard in place then return to the slumbering Bilbo.
Ever so gently, Thorin would pick him up, it wasnât difficult; Bilbo would always sigh and bury his face into Thorinâs chest as he slowly walked to the bedroom. He was always prepared for this eventuality, the covers on Bilboâs side of the bed already pulled back so Thorin could lay him down without having to wake him.
Bilbo rolled towards the centre of the mattress, one hand stretched out in search of warmth. Thorin made his way to the other side of the bed, he shed his tunic before getting under the covers with the hobbit. Before he had a chance to settle properly, Bilbo moved so his head rested on his chest and his body curled into Thorinâs side.
When he pressed a kiss to Bilboâs curls he sighed again, the arm thrown across Thorinâs torso tensed slightly before the hobbit completely relaxed and his breathing deepened. Thorin closed his eyes and it wasnât long before he drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face. Â Â

âBilbo!â Thorin called as he approached their bedroom. âWhat happened to the ââ He cut himself off as he pushed open the door, only to find his tiny husband pushing against their king-sized bed, panting and sweating.
âWhat in Mahalâs name are you doing?â Thorin cursed, quickly striding over to an exhausted Bilbo. He unceremoniously pushed the man onto the bed, arms crossed as he impatiently awaited an answer.
âRearranging the furniture,â Bilbo revealed between panting breaths.
âI can see that,â Thorin grumbled. âAnd what, pray tell, was wrong with our previous arrangement?â
âIt wasnât â you know,â Bilbo waved a hand in the air lazily. âZen.â
âZen,â Thorin repeated slowly.
âYeah, like feng shui. We were getting negative energy.â
âWe were getting negative energyâŠfrom the furniture,â Thorin deadpanned.
Bilbo glared, though his exhaustion meant the attempt was half-hearted. âNot from the furniture itself, you oaf,â Bilbo snarked. âThe arrangement was blocking the flow of energy.â
