from the fanworks i've seen and even the wiki, Lightspeed as an episode (and Flinx) has been misunderstood for years. wdym y'all's conclusion is "Jinx left her REAL FRIENDS for some guy she just met and had a crush on" ???

bro, the implication the entire episode had was that the only one that listened to her, who wanted the best for her the entire time, wasn't her own teammates or even the adult she looked up to, but some superhero who she first met.

they forgot the detail that nobody sided with her about joining the Brotherhood or at the very least doing something villainously productive with their lives after graduation. Billy outright mocked the idea right in front of everyone and not even See-More defended her, some (implied) crush that is, lol.

like, Jinx had all the right to leave, that environment was toxic and unsupportive; she didn't owe anyone anything.

I've said before, and I'll say again:

If we were to compare Terra's betrayal of the Teen Titans with Jinx defecting from the HIVE Five, Terra's actions, while undeniably tragic, are objectively worse.

The thing about Terra is that she couldn't see/appreciate what she had until it was gone. Baring her debut episode, she didn't realise she had true friends who cared about her in the Teen Titans until it was too late.

Terra gave a good thing up because she thought she knew what she wanted, but she couldn't be more wrong.

Jinx, on the other hand, knew exactly what she wanted. She was just wrong about how to achieve it.

Leaving aside the fact that leaving a life of crime behind is objectively better than jumping straight into terrorism, Jinx was right to leave the HIVE because they were teammates—but not really friends.

It's heavily implied she, Gizmo, and Mammoth (and then the others) stuck together out of convenience. Either because they graduated together or worked well together for the most part. I don't know. But you don't get the feeling that they're actually close.

Given Gizmo's lovely personality, you get the feeling he doesn't actually like anyone other than himself and just tolerated those two, who don't seem to like him much either for that matter.

So between the fact that there was no love lost between them and everyone kept dismissing and disrespecting Jinx, even though she was their leader and the only who ever got shit done, is it any wonder she ultimately left?

And the reason Wally convinced her wasn't because of some silly crush. She actually couldn't stand him for most of the episode. No, Wally's attempts reached her because he actually cared.

Now, imagine how you'd feel if a complete stranger and enemy respected you more than literally everyone else in your life. Including the people who're supposed to be your friends.

Jinx didn't abandon her real friends over a guy. She just finally understood she deserved better, and proceeded to make something out of herself like she always wanted.
