welcome to this blog! baihesgeorg is intended as a space for me to talk about and engage with baihe, as i find the cnovel sphere on tumblr often skews very heavily towards danmei. the url of this blog is hyperbole, meant to indicate my desire to read as much baihe as possible.

while i grew up speaking chinese and am proficient, i am not ethnically chinese. sometimes i read novels in translated form, and sometimes as the original, untranslated text.

finished the first volume of rosmei's translation of zwdec! my (spoiler-laden) thoughts below the cut

i haven't read a lot of ny novels (this and fq are the only two i've read any of), but i've noticed that her prose tends to be the weakest point for me. it's always serviceable, don't get me wrong, but it's just not a style that i personally favour.

but that said, the plot and character writing is excellent—i was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading it, and finished it in three days total (probably about five or six hours of reading time for a ~300 page volume). i think ny is really good at writing character dynamics as well, and the shifts that occur in them—the swing from cy between "suspicious and furious at rj and trying to destroy her" and "reorientating and open to rj being innocent" could have been very poorly executed, but in my opinion, the author pulled it off perfectly. there's still an air of simmering disquiet under everything, because cy still doesn't fully trust rj, but it's very believable and holds up well.

in terms of plot threads, i really enjoyed the way ny slowly weaves hints of the past and what (might have?) actually happened throughout. the dual pov is weighted more towards cy, but what we do get from rj is incredibly revealing—and damning for cl, if i've been reading the hints sprinkled in throughout correctly. overall i'm very interested in what happened, both in rj's past with cl and with cl's murder, and i'm really compelled by all the various character dynamics, but especially rj and cy! i've decided i'll probably buy the raws and read the rest that way rather than waiting for v2 to come out, but i'll likely order v2 (and beyond?) as well, because i think the translation is very well done and would like to see more baihe from rosmei.

roughly two thirds through now! i might wind up buying the raws, i don’t know if i can wait for rosmei to release v2……..i just need to be better about actually setting aside time to read (ノ_＜) i’m very interested to see what, exactly, is rj’s situation! i have a general guess at what was going on with cl but i don’t know the exact details and i’m very keen to learn

Sapphic work reccomendation day 1

Except, I start this with reccomending an author!

Let me introduce you to (imo on eng side, as I never see her manhua in any reccs) underrated baihe manhua artist, Shi Yi Er (时一二) ^^

Her works consist of (in order from left to right):

'A story about sweets', about a ghost girl meeting blind, ill girl who's the only one who can see her and they bond over their love of sweets.

'My mom's a superstar' about a girl who, after googling her mom who's an actress and seeing that she is shipped with different actresses, joins in and tries to pair her mom with her fave singer (who, funnily enough, used to be best friends until A Story About Sweetsthey lost contact and reunited recently due to showbiz)

And finally, 'Records of Linyao', about a general who saved healer from the cult and took her in, not knowing what kind of intrigue did she get herself into.

I first found Shi Yi Er through her couple of mirrors fanart and bc I liked her artstyle, I then found her original work. Besides pretty artstyle (I love how she draws people and the way she colors) she has great writing skills, for both humorous and serious stuff.

A story concerning sweets is finished work, while the other two are ongoing ^^

Hi. It's baihe like GL? Forgive my ignorance. I have watched series like Nu Er Hong and The Legend of Yunze and I was mesmerized and also it picked my interest to learn Mandarin, but I'm clueless about baihe in general.
