thinking of incarcerated women on this international women’s day, a group I haven’t seen specified in any post yet.
Women are the fastest growing US prison population, at an increase of 834% since the 70s.
Incarcerated women are more likely to enter the system with a history of abuse, trauma and mental health disorders, which prisons ignore or exacerbate.
Most incarcerated women (62%) are mothers of minor children, and are more likely to be the primary caretaker of these children, leading to family disruption/dissolution.
Women are also frequently incarcerated for “failure to protect” convictions - meaning victims of abuse are punished for being abused.
today i am thinking of all the women in jails and prisons, across the US and around the world, and hoping for a future where ALL women are seen, valued and fought for.

Anna Karina - Roller Girl (1967)
Fun song written by Serge Gainsbourg for the soundtrack to Anna. I haven’t seen the film, but Anna Karina seems to be enjoying herself singing this Louie Louie type garage rock tune.

oh to be a happy dog bouncing merrily down a country path
the other morning I woke up to the the repairmen outside blasting 'lo pasado pasado' by jose jose and I had sleep inertia for a few seconds where(in!) the only thing my groggy brain could hone in on was the v faint n familiar sound coming from outside until I remembered where I was
