The holiday meant a busy day for the store, last minute shoppers looking to make up for making their partner’s day special. Rowan had everything planned out already, for days really. The thought of spending the day with someone felt foreign, but with how the direction of his relationship with Bailee was heading, deciding on what to do was easy. He opened the door as he heard her coming, waiting with it open. “You look stunning,” he smiled, leaning in to kiss her cheek.

She was mixing it all up, reading the into the signs, and never really going for somebody this fast, at least not this serious this fast—as far as she could tell— but with Rowan, everything seemed to play off as a natural reaction, the way he taught her how to give into her impulses and living vivaciously. Once at his place, she really only let out a soft shrug towards him, finding the better things in life to give her joy, including this invitation. “Thank you.” Bailee added with a much needed compliment. Leaning into the kiss, she relished it, and added, “This might be the best day of the year.”

The worst she felt were scratches, blood staining her dress. Nothing felt broken or sprained, although she hadn’t gotten up yet either. Her head nodded as she looked over at her friend, sitting up more to eventually get out of there. “Of course, why wouldn’t it be a terrible idea to thank the EMTs and everyone all at once.” An eyebrow raised in confusion, “Heal me? What are you talking about?” It wasn’t until her friends face started to change did she become scared, scooting back slightly as she wondered if she’d hit her head harder than previously thought. “Bailee, what’s wrong with your eyes?”

It didn’t take much of any spark to reignite the thirst underlying Bailee, as she couldn’t control herself around her, and the cuts only made that more prominent. Even at the girls fear, there was that primal instinct drawing her closer as her fangs protruded, even with all of the waitress’ blood from before. “You have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into.” She remarked back, before leaping onto her friend and biting into her neck.

Frannie stopped her advance towards her friend, the scratches only growing worse every time she moved. There were more than she cared to admit, hoping none would leave any scars once they healed. Her head nodded slowly, feeling a bit dizzy as she did so. A dull pain built as her hand reached towards the back, a bump clearly forming there. “I’ll be okay. Bruised beyond belief,” she attempted to life, the headache sending a sharp pain through her. Bailee’s working seemed odd, leaving it for another time as she agreed. “Sh-shouldn’t someone be coming soon. I’m not sure how well walking is going to go.”

Bailee continued to look over her friend, taking a light breath as she told her she was okay. “Are you sure?” It was a question she didn’t need to ask as the smell of blood filled her senses. After clearing most of the debris off of her, her scratches were already beginning to heal as she scooted closer to Frannie. “I...I don’t think anybody’s coming. Everybody that would come is already here, and injured—” She paused and said, “But I can heal you...I saw it once...I think I can—” Her eyes grew darker, before she has to close them, trying to face her own bloodlust and keeping it in check, before veins darkened around her face, and she could feel her fangs inch forward.

“Oh god, so it’s as bad as I’m expecting. At least with this one, we can leave whenever we want.” She chuckled, elbow resting on the back of her chair as she messed with her hair. The voices sounding monotone to her own ears, struggling to pay attention to what this was even about. As she went to make a comment about actually want to leave to find something better when she flew back from her chair. She tried taking a deep breath, only to have her lungs fill with dust and smoke, coughing fit happening instead. Her body hurt all over, cuts felt on her arms and legs. Frannie sat up slightly, finding her friend a few feet away and crawling towards her. “Bailee, are you okay?!”

With the wood pieces pierced into her skin, she figured it would hurt, but nothing like this, mini-stakes apparently, as she sat up weakly while looking over Frannie. “Fuck.” She murmured, before finding herself plucking pieces of wood out of her arm. “I’m... I’ll be fine—” Even with the pieces she was slowly pulling out one by one, her wounds cleared up quickly, the impact leaving her mostly shocked from the suddenness. “What about you?” She finally lifted her glance to look over her friend. “Fuck—and you’re human. We have to get you...to...someone that can help—” He voice slowed down, the scent of her blood reeling her over and leaving her eyes to darken.

Her eyes rolled with a light chuckle, only guessing as to what those mutual interests might actually be. “School’s not always for everyone, and isn’t the easiest at times. There’s so much pressure now with graduation and…” She made a retching sound. “If my dad found out I’d quit, he’d kill me. So here I am pushing the rest of the way through. Plus, it’s always there if you ever want to go back.” With the reassurance from her friend, Frannie enjoyed the night. There was no end to dancing, drinking, flirting and meeting new people that could stop her, until the room started setting up for the speech. The dancing was put on hold, finding her friend again to join her through the slower part of the evening. “Let’s hope this is quick and not as painful as I’m expecting it to be.”

Bailee couldn’t agree more, which gave her all the more reason to just straight up leave. She figured there was forever now, she didn’t have to worry about it. “You’re so right. It is always there. Plus, it’s not like super high on my priority list anyways. This town is too much fun already. And I’ve found some really great people here too.” She gave he friend a short smile, going off on her own for a bit before coming back together. It was easy enough at least, the speech being something that felt all too obligatory after her entire Rowan encounter. “I can’t imagine it being any less painful than Mr. Shenold’s introductory speech on the first day of classes when we all thought we were going to get out early.” She sighed back, before the speech began. After a while however, the whole explosion wrecked havoc out on the entire crowd, sending Bailee out of her chair and onto the floor, pierced with what seemed like burning wood chips.

The woman never stood a chance, the body falling to the floor as he caught his breath. He wanted more, the urge to tear into every human in the building. There weren’t many people who saw this side of him, if any, his usual composure broken the split second he decided to show her the ropes. Rowan finally tore his eyes from the body, looking at the woman next to him. A small smile played on his lips, eyes going to hers as he took in the sight of the blood. “There’s nothing more beautiful than the sight I’m looking at now.” He stepped closer to her, hand grabbing behind her neck as he brought her closer for a kiss.

Tasting the blood off his lips was an even better experience, holding the bloodlust and sincere form of attraction too closely together as Bailee collided with him, letting her thoughts and emotions become a tangled mess that she couldn’t pull apart. Once she pulled back, a heavy breath leaving her, she glanced to the body and smirked back to Rowan. “Dumping a body and not getting caught sounds like a romantic first date.”

“How could I take away such a valuable piece of their college career?” He joked before rolling his eyes. “You went too low, high school is more like it. I’m closer in age to them anyways.” Olly chuckled more to himself than anything at the joke he made about himself. “Use it, don’t use it. Here it doesn’t matter as much unless they’re a completely unsuspecting human, but that seems to last only so long anyways.” He shrugged, seeing as everyone in this town was something or other. “You just want to tear down my ego don’t you? I’m sorry to disappoint because it’s not going to happen. You’ll have admit I know how to make you feel good.”

“Oh god, you are still basically a high schooler.” Bailee’s frown pulled down as she made a face, adding, “And here I was, thinking it was gonna suck being twenty-three forever. At least I’m legal to drink.” She looked to him with a roll of her eyes. “Well, I guess there’s only one way to answer the age old question then. See you tonight Silverstein.”

I can’t wait to hear all the juicy gossip about that later.” She gave the other a smile, amused at whatever the two might have together, and why she was only hearing about it now. “Is that why you decided to leave too? School’s rough as it is, can’t blame you for wanting to get away for a little while.” Frannie was surprised, looking over at the other with an expression to match her current feelings. “Tae Bo? God, I hope I get to use you as my queen in shining armor at some point tonight.”

“Not gossip!” Bailee tried, though she knew her friend couldn’t resist any sort of deets on just about anything it seemed. “We just found... mutual interests.” A very specific interest and that included the art of vampire sex, but she didn’t have to tell Fran about that yet. “Yeah. Sort of. I just...found a new path to life I guess? School kind of weighed me down at the end.” She didn’t know if she would ever fully finish, and now that she had forever, it wasn’t a problem either. “I could get used to that. Don’t worry, I won’t let anything bad happen.”

It’s remarkable.” Raising a brow and throwing a mischievous grin, she added, “Let’s go get into a little trouble then.”

Rowan watched intently, proud she remembered to compel the waitress into not screaming. They needed this moment to themselves, a full feeding session without any interruptions. As the smell of fresh blood hit him, the veins under his eyes started to show. He lightly pushed back the woman’s hair, stepping closer to take a bit out of the other side of her neck. The taste practically sending him into a frenzy he needed to control, digging into the flesh a little deeper than he should have.

It didn’t take long for Bailee to find the absolute pleasure of ripping the woman’s neck open with her fangs, biting into the flesh of her neck that helped gush more blood into her mouth, feeding coming into a secondary act next to the the thrill of the actual bite itself. As the woman was drained of life itself by both vampires, Bailee felt her body start to feel cold, and even limp, before her pale body fell onto the floor. Bailee’s eyes were pitch black as she reeled in with blood smeared across her mouth and chin. And as she stretched her own neck, rolling it slightly to take in the euphoria, her glance fell onto Rowan, hungrier than ever. “You’ve never looked better.”

A smirk formed, “I really was. Don’t think you ever really knew me before I turned, but yeah I was. Not typically the sleeping together part unless it ruined my image. Though no one caught on to the small bite marks on people’s necks. Hickeys really cover up those quite well.” His head shook, “God, no. I wouldn’t have let you forget hooking up with me if we did. Plus, I like having you as a friend.” 

“That’s....not something I thought I was gonna have to face today—And, that’s good at least. You weren’t making everybody forget they had slept with you.” She paused, the tip coming in handy for future use. “Hickeys? God, what are we, middle schoolers? I guess that’s good to know just in case.” Bailee was more of the drain and let them to die type, but she still wasn’t sure she was comfortable in letting him know that yet, seeing that he clearly hadn’t killed everybody he drank from. “Well, now you can’t compel me to forget, even if it turns out you’re really bad in bed. Don’t worry, I’ll be honest with you.”

“Oh? Do you already have dibs on his brother? You know I’m not in to that relationship stuff right now. That’s way more time spent keeping up with someone when I could be doing my own thing.” Her head nodded, the bar and drinks in sight. “Well, I’ll appreciate any help you can give me. I’d like to avoid any bad vibes and creeps as much as possible. Plus, who needs to deal with that anyways? I can for sure say, neither of us should have to put up with it. We’re too good for that.”

“His brother and I have...let’s say we have some catching up to do.” She stared, very suggestively, giving her a confident glance and smirk. “And you gotta do you. Sometimes you have to make yourself the priority. There’s nothing wrong with that!” Bailee was eager to have someone who cared about themselves as much as she did. “We are too good for that, and trust me, I can take care of anybody that gets in our way—” She paused, trying to find a good excuse for why. “I’ve been seriously into these Tae Bo lessons. You just say the word, and I will take anybody down.”

“Only by me, and look where that’s gotten us.” Tensions were high during that time with the newborn outbreak, she was lucky it had been him and not someone else looking for a reason to get rid of her. His head nodded, amused at the harmless jabs she liked to throw his way. Rowan gestured towards the woman, quiet to not give their hiding spot. “Dig in, just don’t make a mess. Wouldn’t want to ruin that pretty little dress of yours.”

“I’d say getting caught by you was the best thing to happen to me. You’ve already taught me so much.” Bailee certainly overestimated the relationship they had, reading much too into it as she smiled back at the young man, before she stopped the woman where she was, unbuttoning her shirt slightly to reveal her full neck line. At Rowan’s words, Bailee couldn’t help but continually try to impress, compelling the woman to not scream before she became quite a show off and a tease as she bared her fangs and plunged into the waitress’ neck, only glancing at Rowan to see if he was watching her.

His mind was reeling at the prospect of getting to do anything with her. He’d tried for years, and some part of the both of them now being vampires was raising his hopes that it might actually happen. “The good thing about going to a university with a limited supernatural knowledge, you can get away with taking a bite out of a few people without questions. I just turned it into hooking up with people and feeding off them.” He smirked, an explanation of why he acted the way he did now. “You won’t regret it. I’ll make sure you aren’t looking to hookup with anyone else.”

“You kinky little fucker. So you really were a vampire this whole time? And what, you were compelling people to forget?” She paused a horror coming over her face as she realized that when she was human, she could have been compelled. “You didn’t...compel me, did you?” Bailee asked, hoping that he could be honest with her. “You could only be so lucky.”

“Oh, yes! I ran into Olly’s brother earlier, please tell me they’re both single because damn…they’re fine.” Her luck only seemed to grow. A party, hot guys and plenty of alcohol to drink all night. “You’ve been here long enough to be able to tell me who to watch out for? I should’ve moved here sooner to help you navigate all of this.”

“You can have Emmy for all I care. And if hooking up is more your thing, I’m sure I could set something up between you and Olly.” She winked back at her friend. “Yeah, just since the end of November. But it’s been enough to go through one community event. Really, it’s just the ones that...give off a bad vibe.” Or vampires or werewolves. Those were who she was really worried about for her friend, not sure if the other knew about their existence yet.

And don’t worry, I’ll let you know who you should watch out for too, just like the good old days.”

“Your fun where you could’ve gotten caught.” He still thought her to be naive, something he was trying to change. At least he could try and change how she acted, until he felt like he was through with teaching her. “She’s still going to die, but it doesn’t mean you need to be sloppy with it. “Yeah, but I didn’t.” Sure, there was definitely a chance, especially if Rowan hadn’t been there to save her, but, in the end, everything worked out. “You’re right! And I can’t have any blood get on my dress anyways!” She said very dramatically all of a sudden, before they got out of range and into a more private area. “So, what? We just dig right in, or is there a special way you like to do things?”
