I didn’t think for a second that my skin complexion would affect my trip in Cambodia however, it has.  There has been many occasions where people have pointed at me and laughed with their friends because I am dark skinned. Sometimes people even stand away from me and look at me as if I’m monster. One day a man came up to me asked ‘Why are you so black?’ lol I didn’t even know what to say I just had to laugh it off.

Honestly, I understand being white and light in Cambodia is what is classed as being beautiful and they have probably never seen a black person. Therefore, It doesn’t upset me because I ‘ve learnt to love myself. I am just out of my comfort zone, if I step out I know eyes are going to be on me and I will probably get laughed at. I think its sad because I know something like this can affect a person’s self esteem. To all my dark skinned beauty, you are beautiful don’t let anyone tell you different – you are dark and lovely.
