For a change, here’s some words….
Although I have essentially been a Sphinx nearly the entire life of this Tumblr, it is time to stop posting band start writing. With impending changes to Tumblr, this account will, essentially, cease to exist.
While I’m surprised at the decision, it is, at least, understandable. The sheer volume of improperly used copyrighted material, violations of privacy, and images that violated the law was probably quite astronomical. It was probably a lawsuit waiting to happen. (EDIT: due to changes in the law to hold sites responsible for human trafficking. No one wants to promulgate this ugly, nasty destructive business.) That being said, this is clearly the platform’s Betamax moment.
As for my own corner, I will be sad to see it die. Less than a week ago I had crossed the 6000 follower mark. Now the stats are rolling in reverse with people not just leaving, but killing their accounts.
I have always worked to find photos in my feed that represented real people. Men, women, black, brown, white, and many other variations. I tended to favor those with a bit more weight on themselves in an effort to show that it’s okay and that you don’t have to be a model. We are more like the “people of Walmart” than any Playboy’s Girls of ___.“
I have purposely avoided posting PWGs (pretty white girls). This mostly because, they didn’t need to be promoted. It’s hard to not see an example of this when browsing. I also tried to avoid pics where the person’s most prominent feature was their genitals. I preferred full body shots with unmasked faces, but have been known to break this rule once in awhile.
My biggest annoyance were the “card check” memes and requests “Post if you like others to send you nude pics.” “Post if you are a true naturist / nudist.”. These requests reeked of the foul smell of desperation and patheticness.
I tried to avoid posting obvious voyeuristic posts, as it’s not easy to tell if those were taken with permission. I also tended to avoid WNBR pics or those that appeared to be WNBR. This was partly due to the fact that the event lacked cohesiveness around a cause. Was it body freedom? Was it equal rights? Oil protest? Biker protection? I have now realized that worrying about such a thing is probably irrelevant. Everyone does it for their own reason (just like any other event.).
I had often debated the value of this blog. Looking at my followers tumblrs, it seemed that 10% were naturist / nudist, 10% were blank, and the other 80% were filled with porn, lots of porn, porny porn porn, and the fetishes they liked best. Now, there’s nothing wrong with indulging your visual cortex a bit (within reason). But there’s a reality that we all need to accept: Most porn is not made in healthy, ethical environments with people who are purely and altruistically exercising their free will. I wish it werent so, but this isn’t a world made of wishes. So there’s that.
But what truly bothered me were the lurid, demeaning, non-sex-positive comments I saw.on posts. It’s odd in the sense that I was more bothered by the words and not the videos or pics.
Because of this, I had many times pondered if I should just walk away and not give the 80% more material to wank off to. Was it worth it to reach one more person? Was it worth it to show one more soul that they shouldn’t worry about having a perfect body and to confidently and bravely accept who they are?
Now, Tumblr has made that choice for me
I shall, in many ways, miss this place. While I never interacted in a social sense, it was still a community.
I don’t know where people will migrate to and I haven’t decided if or where I will go (although I’m curious to hear where those I’ve followed will go.)
All I can say at this point is “thank you” for being part of the ride.
Kind regards!
