how do you draw hair?

okay so hair in my art usually has two main parts

the border effect layer is where i paint the bulk of the hair usually,, painting is my preferred method bc i feel like when i try to draw lineart for hair it limits the flowiness that im trying to achieve and i get frustrated drawing it over and over again so i just paint and use border effect to give the appearance of lines

i paint the rest in a darker color on the lowest layer for depth and usually don't put a border effect on it bc i think it looks prettier that way

and then i do stray hairs and highlights on my add/glow layer and shading/details on a clipping layer over the border effect one
