I attended the sf ballet on February 14 and drafted several posts about the performances. Unfortunately my life is extremely busy right now and I haven’t quite finished them. I’m hoping to wrap them up this weekend and get them out. Particularly since I’m attending another performance tonight—and it’s a set of short ballets that includes Infinite Ocean, one of my favorite short ballets!

I would like to keep my commentary in some semblance of order, since I want to be able to reference these at a later date to compare performances.

Final word on Cinderella:

I loved Misa Kuranaga, but Greco overshadowed her. He is so charismatic, confident, and incredibly talented that he steals the stage when he’s on it. Misa is young and talented, but when she’s dancing with Greco she slips out of the spotlight.

Overall, I felt that there was an imbalance to their partnering in Cinderella.

Moving posts here. I think I want to keep the ballet content separate from other interests, hobbies, and collections.

I didn’t get a chance to talk about how creative this ballet is with regard to props. The pumpkin carriage is this shawl attached to Cinderella’s dress. All it took was a little fan to make it billow out just right.

The tree, as always, was great. And the magical creatures were great. Loved the bird women and the seed men, and the pair of creatures with giant heads.

Loved the drunk step-mother dance. The competitive step-sister pas de deux was great.

So...

Cinderella.

The mice/Djinn (because I am convinced that those are not mice and refuse to accept them as such) are amazing as always.

Angelo Greco was pretentious as always. You can tell he knows he’s good and that he knows what he’s doing.

I’m liking Misa Kuranaga. She’s good. A little unpolished, but it’s only a matter of time with her.

I think Wei Wang was underutilized, which is a shame because he’s brilliant.

The set is amazing, tho.
