UPDATE
Breaking News
Ballet San Jose is organizing an emergency benefit performance!
Thanks to our incredible artistic and administrative staff on Wednesday March 11th Ballet San Jose will perform George Balanchine's Theme and Variations and Twyla Tharp's In The Upper Room at the Center for The Performing Arts in downtown San Jose. Symphony Silicon Valley has agreed to donate their accompaniment for Theme and Variations and San Jose Theaters has agreed to donate the theatre. Both of these donations are above and beyond what we could ask for and we are so grateful for the support from the art community.
Both Theme and Variations and In The Upper Room display technical excellence and outstanding artistry. They are the perfect example of why Silicon Valley cannot stand to lose its resident ballet company.
Forgive us, this has all come together within the last 24 hours, so we know that more information is needed, there are more details on the way and they will be released as soon as possible.
Tickets will be available soon and in order to achieve maxim attendance they will be available at very reasonable price.
The dancers are working extremely hard with these newly added rehearsals and we will continue to do everything in our power to #SaveBalletSJ. As much as it hurts us to write, this could be the last show Ballet San Jose performs, so if you live in the area, or you are able to make the trip to San Jose to show your support please make it a priority to do so.
Feel free to send us any questions you might have (though our ask box) and we will do our absolute best to answer them.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Ballet San Jose NEEDS your help!
Our board has announced an emergency funding campaign in an effort to raise $550,000 by March 14th. Without this money Ballet San Jose will be forced to close its doors leaving 33 company dancers unemployed and 300 students without a place to study. This would be a HUGE loss of art and culture for Silicon Valley and devastating to our extremely talented and diverse company.
Thanks to our CEO Alan Highline, our board of directors, and our beloved Artistic Director José Manuel Carreño Ballet San Jose is NOT going down without a fight.
Here is where you come in:
We have 9 days to #SaveBalletSJ and we desperately need to get the word out about our situation. People need to know what is at stake here. So please, please help get the word out. (Tumblr, we know you’re great at sharing things that are important to you, we saw how fast that Sergei video went around! ) We desperately need momentum on this campaign so please do what you can, donate, Like, Reblog, Share on Facebook, tweet about it, Instagram it, yell it from the rooftops!
Here is the link to Donate and to read the official press release.
The dancers are doing their best to stay positive as they continue to rehearse for the next program: Bodies of Technology. Everyone at Ballet San Jose has faith in the Ballet community and we strongly believe that if we fight we can #SaveBalletSJ. #SV4BSJ
EVERYONE!!! THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
