I'VE GOT YOU →
As soon as the figure appeared in the doorway to Dani’s bedroom, Brittany could feel the girl tremble beside her, knowing that the second set of footsteps would only just further her fear. It was then, when something snapped inside of the usually timid, anxious blonde. Dani was her girlfriend and she had to protect her. She wouldn’t let anyone scare or hurt the only person in the world, besides her best friend and parents, that has ever shown her love.
"G-get your stuff Dani." Brittany broke the silence lowly, her voice more sure than she had ever heard it coming out of her mouth before, as her heightened levels of testosterone started to flow through her veins to the extremities of her body.
Picking up the largest, heaviest bag and swinging it effortlessly over her shoulder, Brittany stepped towards Dani’s mother, putting herself between the woman and her girlfriend to give Dani some time to finish packing.
After quietly scanning the woman’s face, Brittany finally opened her mouth to speak, feeling Dani make her way behind her.
"Move out our way, please."
Dani stood, frozen in place, hanging on Brittany's arm, staring at her mother in the doorway. Her mother. Her own mother, who she hadn't seen in months, who'd kicked her out on the street, left her with nothing, treated her like nothing, had ALWAYS treated her like nothing. Dani wanted to scream at her, tell her how much she hurt her daughter, tell her how FUCKED up this whole thing was, but she couldn't.
She couldn't do it. She couldn't do this.
It was the moment that Dani felt a tear leave her eye that she also felt her girlfriend's arm tense in her hands, and was shocked to see the blonde acting so mature, so...brave. She loosened the grip on Brittany's arm, watching as the girl grabbed the duffle from the floor and began walking toward the door. Dani, after another moment of silence, finally found the courage to start moving, walking slowly toward the pile of bags on her bed, grabbing two of them before falling into place behind Brittany, looking down at her feet.
Something bad was going to happen. She knew it.
