my brain be like “i’m bored let’s get sad”
someone who loves you just told a sweet story about you. someone else just saw your favorite food in the store and almost bought it even though you’re far away. someone walked past your house and thought the garden looked nice. you are never as alone as you feel
You deserve to be comforted, even if you are the only one who can comfort you right now
the moon is loved no matter what phase she’s in... just as you are.
“The hardest part of recovery isn’t when you’re not sure whether or not you want to recover. It’s tossing and turning at 2:30am wondering why you don’t feel any better even though you’ve been sober for almost three months. You’ve been trying your hardest, gone through so much pain, and yet you still feel like you’re not getting any better. In fact, it feels like you’re getting worse. Your heart wants to fight, but your brain wants to give up. It feels as though time is against you and recovery goes against everything you believe in. Keep staying strong. Eventually, instead of feeling like you have to keep fighting, you’ll want to.”

Just because the days are repetitive at the moment, it does not mean you are not still making progress. You are not wasting your life. You still have time.
so i see a lot of self-care posts that are very positive and soft, that tell you to read a good book and take a warm bath and other ways to treat yourself kindly. and those are fantastic! but sometimes thats not what you need. sometimes theres so much anger built up that you feel like a rabid dog, like youre going to explode if you dont let it out somehow.
so heres a list of things you can do when youre feeling reckless; here are some ways to let out your energy or anger without hurting yourself or others
scream. into a pillow or just anywhere. i live in the country so i like to go into isolated fields and just let it out, but you can also just sit in your car and play music.
tear up paper. you can use your hands or scissors or a knife, and just go to town
if you have access to a lawn, go rip up some grass or pull leaves off of trees
an obvious one, hitting something soft, like a pillow or your mattress. pillows are good because you can also pick them up and throttle them or throw them - just be careful where youre throwing! id recommend at the wall or floor
bite things! pillows and blankets are good here, and you can kind of shake them around like a dog with a toy
write down your feelings on a sheet of paper and then tear it up
draw!!! and you dont have to be an artist. even just aggressively scribbling spirals on a sheet of paper can help
make something out of clay/play-doh and then destroy it
jenga! build your tower and then knock it down as aggressively as youd like. hit it, throw something at it, whatever
throw a small bouncy ball/stress ball at the wall. make sure its not big/hard enough to make holes! i used to do this a lot as a kid, and its easy to let that anger melt away when it starts to become a fun game
throw a tantrum. seriously. go into your room or somewhere isolated and let it out. stomp your feet, hit the ground, scream, cry, have a full body tantrum. id recommend getting a pillow or doing it on your bed so youre not punching the floor.
put on some music that you can get into and scream the words as loud as you can. i have an entire playlist of songs to scream to, and id put that on in the car on the way to/from work. it can be loud and emotional songs, or just anything that you can get really into. music is a great outlet
go take a large stick (or a baseball bat, if you have one) and go whack a tree. using a large stick is great because it doesnt matter if it breaks
paint glue over a surface (your arm, something plastic) and then pull/rip it off. just be careful to use glue thats safe for your skin - liquid latex is a good idea if you have access to it!
make slime! something thicker that you can squeeze and rip
makeup. sometimes when im angry and i want to fight its partially because i want to get bruised and bloody. get some cheap sfx makeup and give yourself bruises, a bloody nose, whatever your heart desires. you can go a step further and make wounds with liquid latex. this ones also good because it takes up a lot of focus and concentration, and itll distract you enough to calm you down
if you dont mind looking at yourself, go yell at the mirror!
SAFELY burn something. sit in the bathtub and use a lighter to burn leaves or strips of paper. be careful not to burn yourself. have a little tray/bowl of water that you can drop things into when it gets too close to your fingers
get a cheap wig from a party store, put it on, and cut it up. be careful not to cut yourself
i may update this list if i think of more, and of course anyone is free to add on if they have other ideas!
and remember, its okay to feel angry. anger does not make you a bad person. its what you do with that anger that counts. be safe, i love you <3
please make sure that wherever you’re at in life, you don’t treat it like a transitory period. don’t waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. don’t waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while it’s important to better yourself and reach for your goals, don’t neglect the present because that’s where you are now and it’s your now that determines your future.
genuine self confidence literally only comes with not caring at all if you’re ugly... like if it’s based around finding yourself beautiful it’s planted on fragile ground
like it feels Good to look in the mirror and say Wow i feel pretty, it’s a nice moment and i’m not condemning it, but it’s a tenuous position. if you position yourself to feel good about being pretty, you’re still vulnerable to Ugly, and pretty is not a sustainable state. no matter how far you extend the concept of beauty, it’s still based in rules established by societal standards that realistically one cannot be perfectly held up to.
to constantly have your eye on some idealized version of a future-“you” is to doom yourself indefinitely into a state of fragmented dissociation
I hope that one day someone will make flowers grow in even the saddest parts of you.
