The reason it’s not okay to make a character with Canonically darker skin lighter is because there is already very little representation of darker-skinned people in media. Drawing a pale character darker is fine because there are already a million and one snow-white characters out there, so taking just one of those and drawing them a little bit darker isn’t hurting anything. On the other hand, drawing a character who Very Clearly has Brown skin pale is harmful because it erases the already very little amount of representation people of color have in media. Nobody is ‘looking for a victim’, they’re rightfully pointing out that what you’re doing isn’t okay, and in response, you turn off comments and refuse to take accountability for your actions.
Literally all you had to do was apologize and start drawing these characters correctly in the future. That’s it. That’s All You Had To Do. I am white, so it’s not my place to forgive you or speak for people of color, but if you had simply taken accountability and fixed your mistake, I’m sure nobody would be mad at you anymore. Instead you’ve decided to make yourself out as a victim. Even if you ‘see colors a bit lighter’, I am assuming you have access to some sort of color-picking tool you can use to get the correct colors. It’s not that hard, I promise. You can do it. I believe in you.
