not to be a shitty music hipster but it really bugs the crap out of me when people use musician’s lyrics out of context. . Take “the devil and god are raging inside of me” by brand new. it’s a phrase made by one of jessie’s best friends who happened to be schizophrenic and it meant a lot to jessie that he made it an album title, maybe i’m biased because i’m schizophrenic but it urks me to see it used in the same way as “welcome to my twisted mind”. it’s like “try harder edgelord”. . Another one is “Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself” from the song King Park by La Dispute, they are from an area where gang violence is a huge cause of death for young people and Jordan wrote because the story of how a drive-by shooter who took his own life from the regret of killing an innocent kid. it shook him enough to write a 7 minute song detailing it. but most people i see using that phrase use it as a sympathy bait, like i’ve seen tattoos where it has it written overlayed by a coffin. pretty much romanticizing suicide. . look i may just be a bitter emo hipster and these people might actually take these phrases and honer them in a way that feels special to them, idk. but it still bugs me

As a victim of sexual assault myself, I'm so glad you made the video about ricegum. Having been in the position of the female he was talking with it hurts to have a person laugh at your pain and not just to laugh but to take a sick form of pleasure in a person's pain. Sadly I was failed by the justice system but I hope your video can help others to try to report their rapists. Sexual assault is never funny and I'm glad that you made the effort to bring to light how ignorant people are about rape
