Scream Puff/Banshee Noise Split Album Review

Scream Puff/Banshee Noise Split 10/10

Well... It looks like those smart-assed, sick fucks from Gainesville, known as Scream Puff, are at it again... And this time they've joined forces with their Californian counterparts Banshee Noise for a split album that manages (in less than nine minutes, mind you) to top just about anything you'll hear on the overpriced, mediocre Summer festival tour circuit this year.  The first half of this record is dominated by Banshee Noise. Their six tracks are short bursts of fury that manage to showcase the best of several genres (grind, noise, powerviolence, sludge) sometimes all within the span of as little as twenty five seconds. Scream Puff's contributions to this collection are equally impressive. With a heavier emphasis on their grindcore and crust roots than their partners in crime, Scream Puff somehow manage to slip an element of catchiness into their cacophonic frenzy of brutality... No easy feat. I've probably listened to this entire record about five of six times since I sat down to write this review, and I must admit, it will probably be repeated about five or six more. I highly recommend this to fans of extreme music. I look forward to eventually seeing both of these bands live in the future, because it's very difficult to translate this type of intensity onto to a recording. I can only imagine what these bands are like in a live setting.
