"What's your favorite color?"
“Take look at my clothes and take a wild guess.”
Would you eever grow your hair Pagen?
“Probably not. Well, maybe, depends on if this undercut business goes out of style or not... even so, I quite like it. It’s... edgy... cool? Is that what they call it these days? Also, it makes for cheaper wigs for my body doubles...”
what do ashes taste like
“The good old days.”
Let’s be real, Pagan uses the wax from the now banned candles to clog up people’s eyes while it’s still warm... or choke them with it, because it’s a resource that shouldn’t be wasted...
And fuck whoever put candles everywhere.
This has been a psa.

What a tedious day. Not because nothing happened, but nothing fun had happened. The monkey had caused some fuss today, taking over one of the encampments for his soldiers. A nuisance but not a catastrophe and one of the Golden Path members had been caught in the process. Always a bonus. The information they could provide was valuable; if they didn’t die trying that was.
Pagan clapped his hands together, like calling for someone, as he stood up from his chair. Perhaps the fun could happen now.
“Ian? Pay attention, dear boy, we got work to check over. Paul is eager to get going but I wanted to pay a visit first to our new friend,” he said easily, wrapping his fingers together elegantly. “Perhaps the monkey will talk and reveal some fucking useful shit for once.”

What was the eccentric shit rambling about now?
The mercenary shifted his weight slightly, really only half listening to the other man as he rambled on. Hal might lack tact but he wasn’t stupid enough to not realize when it was time for him to keep his damnable mouth shut.. and this reeked as one of those times.
His stance remained loose enough, hands clasped behind his back in a parody of a soldier’s at ease pose.. pale eyes still keeping on the other man carefully. Warily. Watchfully… he hadn’t come here with the expectation of dying today, that was for certain.
“Animals are animals.” A pause. “Useful if used right, particularly tigers’n bears.” All there needed to be was lions for that age old line to fall right. “But anythin’ can break and betray y’if pushed too far, loyal or otherwise.” Money wasn’t able to buy everything for people, just like food wasn’t able to curb even most wild animals’ natural tendencies.
“Every man has a weakness. Every animal has a limit. Breaking is easy but betrayal... oh, that’s a challenge. Finding someone who will remain loyal to you through thick and skin is a rare thing and worth a fortune. My closest man is loyal as a dog, as long as I keep him entertained. An easy task, trust me, with all the idiots wandering around in Kyrat.”
Pagan started to pace in front of Hal, gesturing in front of himself suddenly in an impatient movement. A slight irritation subtly shown in his tense shoulders. Not even Min could hide away the body language of a man who was starting to grow done with the rebels.
“Are you a loyal man... what was your name again?” He turned towards Hal, snapping his fingers a few times with a thoughtful expression, before waving it off. “How easily bought is your loyalty once you serve another? Is it like a tiger’s? Even though pushed or taken care of well, one slip up from its master and you have its teeth in your throat. Weakness is a shitty thing to show,” he finished in an impatient tone.

“I don’t like messes. And you have cause one fucking massive mess right here. See my face? Do I look happy? No smiles here, boy, no fucking smiles.”
Flipping up his phone, Pagan dials a number before elegantly putting it to his ear without letting it touch him; considering he had blood on his fingers and now blood on the phone.
“Paul? Yes. I want you to bring the guards... the remaining guards, in charge of the western barricade to your place. Have a chat with them, find out how this fucking mess began. Oh, if you must pull a few teeth, do so, just make sure they can talk.”
Dropping the call, he tossed the phone over his shoulder, letting one of the guards with him pick it up instead.
“Now. What was your purpose here again?” Turning his attention back to the stranger, he tapped his finger tips together, expectantly.
Hector can count on one hand the number of times he’s been intimidated. It’s not a feeling that comes naturally, but looking royalty in the eye brings it about in spades.
“I, uh… wouldn’t say charismatic. He’s more of a strong silent type, y’know? The kind that likes t’brood.”
He’s heard the name ‘Pagan Min’ tossed around, though Ajay’s been diligent about keeping things vague. All the actor really has to go on are the local horror stories. Naturally, the image that they’ve built up in his head is a far reach from the bleach blonde before him, standing lithe in a magenta fitted suit and snake-skinned boots. Hector forces a small, crooked smile in turn as he extends his hand for a shake, visibly flinching as they make contact.
“The name’s Hector. S’a pleasure t’finally meet you.”
“Each to their own; there’s a certain charisma deep down somewhere there. Something to make him so...” Pagan waved his fingers in a circle slowly, thinking of the right word. “Likable. I guess he get it from his parents.”
He tilted his head to the side, eyes narrowing slightly at the presentation as well as the handshake. This man didn’t seem to be one of the sturdiest people he had encountered, if even a handshake got the better of him. Wonder what Ajay saw in him.
“Hector. Strong name. Sadly, you have me at an advantage. I’m not surprised if the monkeys have given you all the gory details of my horrendous over taking of Kyrat or... whatever they call it. A smart man listens to both sides of a story before making a judgment. Good advice that you might want to keep in mind for future... references.”

“ Well, mister Kyrat–I mean Min–I don’t know, the food here is very lovely, the service is lovely too, and you, sir, are also lovely… but… uh… ” He cleared his throat. “ Well, I appreciate everything that you did, and even all the trouble you went through just to get me here but you didn’t have to… Like gee, you really didn’t have to. And the food’s lovely, it’s just, uh… ”
Once again, he cleared his throat, jiggling his foot anxiously. He picked up his fork and knife, and began cutting into his steak. Okay, he’ll try it just this once, after all, if he didn’t chances were he’d regret it—and hey! Free food.
With his ‘ best ’ smile, he scooped the meat into his mouth, chewing, staring blankly at Pagan before swallowing; he blinked, placing his fork and knife down. His hands slipped back to his sides before he averted his eyes to his plate.
“ It’s just a bit overcooked… ”
“Dear boy, where’s your taste buds going at? To hell? Oh, well, I suppose opinions differ about the food. I’ll just bring the chef a little test then, since there’s two of them now. Is it undercooked?”
Maybe he was losing his taste in the old days? Nah, probably not, the kid obviously didn’t know about food. Too nervous no doubt, it was almost entertaining to watch. If not a bit sad.
“No matter, overcooked’s just overcooked. Won’t kill you.” Heh. “I’m glad you appreciate it all though; I pride myself on how well I can take care of guests. Some of them deserve the utmost manners and quality; as long as they provide it back.”
A sharp smile rested across his features.

“How many poor bastards have you tricked by now? 20? A hundred? A lot of gullible fools here, I’m sure. Didn’t expect Ajay to be one of them, granted, slight disappointment there. Or perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised.”
A careful pause followed as he realized the latter was more fitting. “Oh, of course I know about that. Nothing escapes my watchful eye; thank fucking god for that. Kyrat would be lost otherwise.”

“Havn’t I seen you around here before? I’m good with faces; obviously, I mean look at my own and I knoow I’ve seen you before.” He pointed lazily towards the man as he spoke before letting that hand rest under his chin; a thoughtful hum escaping him.
“Oh... isn’t that right. A friend of Ajay’s no? That’s where I’ve seen you before, hanging around him. Enjoying that are we? Charismatic lad, when he wants to be.”

“Do you like bears? Tigers? Fascinating animals. All so ruthless and fierce. And they don’t talk back. The only downside is that they have a tendency to betray you. Wild animals don’t make reliable guards in the long run. I find elephants better in that case. Beautiful beasts, a bit more loyal, but also moody.”
There was a point to his words; carefully constructed into a thoughtful debate more with himself than the stranger in front of him. Pagan just enjoyed hearing his voice and he was certain everyone else did too. Even if they didn’t, well, fuck them then.
“I’d consider your reply carefully. It might just become very relevant soon.”

“I don’t recall requesting more people here?” The question aimed at one of the guards wasn’t a too friendly one; bothered even. Even the other guards exchanged looks in concern, at what was no doubt coming. “Is he important? Someone I should know about? No? Then why the fuck is he here?”
Pagan briefly turned away from the guard, to look towards Johnny, smiling kindly suddenly. “Give me a moment. Misunderstandings need to be taken care of, I’m sure you know how it is.”
He flickered his hand suddenly; a near careless gesture and one of the other guards rammed the butt of their rifle into the accused guard’s stomach; causing him to keel over. “Always something to fucking fix,” Pagan sighed heavily.

“How’s the food? You’re not eating the food. Is it undercooked? Overcooked perhaps?” He sauntered over to Randy’s plate, completely unperturbed by any hostility he might cause whenever he decided to kidnap some poor random bastard for his own enjoyment. It was becoming a thing.
Kyrat’s entertainment.
Cutting off a piece from the steak, he put it into his mouth with a flourish; sampling the taste of it.
“Seems this new chef is competent at least; good for him. Healthy food means a longer life, isn’t that what they say? So eat up. I won’t have guests starving here.”
