pranking bf!rafe cameron
you weren’t planning anything elaborate. it wasn’t some big, thought-out prank or anything that would actually get him mad. just something small that would get a reaction.
and with rafe? that part was easy.
he was in the kitchen when you started.
leaning against the counter, scrolling on his phone, looking annoyingly good for no reason at all. sunlight spilled through the windows, catching in his hair, making everything feel softer than it should’ve.
you watched him for a second from the doorway, biting back a smile. too easy.
you walked in casually, like nothing was wrong, grabbing a glass and filling it with water. he didn’t look up at first.
“you been quiet,” he said after a second, voice lazy. “that’s usually a bad sign.”
you hummed lightly. “maybe i’m just peaceful today.”
he snorted. “yeah. sure.”
you took a sip of water, then leaned back against the counter across from him, studying him like you were thinking about something.
he noticed immediately. you were pretty predictiable. “. . .what?” he asked, narrowing his eyes slightly.
you tilted your head. “nothing.”
“no, don’t do that,” he said, straightening a little. “you’re looking at me like something’s wrong.”
you hesitated—just enough to sell it. “are you okay?”
he blinked. “me? yeah?”
you frowned slightly, stepping a little closer. “you sure?”
now he looked confused. “yeah, why?”
you bit the inside of your cheek, like you were debating whether to say something. “rafe — ”
“what?”
you leaned in just a little, lowering your voice. “you don’t feel different?”
he stared at you. “what does that mean.”
you shook your head quickly. “no, it’s probably nothing.”
“y/n.” his tone shifted — more alert now.
“what are you talking about.”
you let out a small breath, like you were giving in. “okay, don’t freak out.”
his entire posture stiffened. “why would i freak out.”
“i just — ” you hesitated again, then gestured vaguely toward him. “your face.”
his hand immediately came up. bless his cocky, arrogant heart.“my face?”
“it’s just a little—” you squinted slightly, like you were inspecting him. “puffy? on this side.”
his eyes widened just slightly. “what?”
you nodded slowly, like you were confirming it. “yeah. i thought it was just the lighting at first but…”
“what do you mean ‘puffy’?” he said, already moving toward the nearest reflective surface.
you followed, trying so hard not to laugh. “i don’t know, it’s just — like right there,” you said, pointing vaguely at his cheek.
he leaned closer to the mirror, turning his head side to side. “i don’t see anything.”
you stepped up beside him, squinting again. “wait — no, yeah, it’s there.”
“where?”
“right — no, other side.”
he turned quickly. “this side?”
“no, the other one.”
“which one are you talking about?”
you bit your lip, trying to keep it together. “rafe — just hold still.”
you reached up like you were about to touch his face, and he froze instantly. completely still. watching you carefully. “is it bad?” he asked, quieter now.
that did it. you broke. a laugh slipped out before you could stop it, and then another, and suddenly you were covering your mouth, shaking your head.
“oh my god, i’m sorry — i’m sorry — ”
his expression shifted immediately. confusion to realization and then offense.
“are you kidding me right now.”
you were still laughing, barely able to breathe. “you should’ve seen your face — ”
“you are seeing my face,” he shot back, narrowing his eyes.
you reached out, grabbing his arm as you tried to steady yourself. “i’m sorry, i couldn’t help it—”
“you just had me checking my reflection like five times,” he said, but there was no real anger behind it, just disbelief.
“it was worth it,” you grinned.
he stared at you for a second longer, then huffed, shaking his head. “you’re unbelievable.”
you were still smiling when you stepped a little closer, nudging his arm lightly. “you love me.”
he rolled his eyes.
“debatable.”
you dropped your jaw open in mock shock. “rafe.”
he sighed, running a hand through his hair. “yeah. i do.”
your smile softened. there was a small pause. “you’re lucky i like you,” he added, glancing at you.
you tilted your head. “what, or you’d get revenge?”
his lips twitched slightly. “oh, i’m still getting revenge.”
your eyes widened. “rafe—”
“don’t worry,” he said, stepping closer, voice dropping just a little. “i’ll make it cute.”
your heart did a stupid little flip. “that doesn’t sound reassuring.”
he smirked. “it’s not supposed to be.” and even as you groaned and tried to back away, he caught your wrist lightly, pulling you back toward him, his grip gentle.
“you’re not getting away that easy,” he murmured.
but he was smiling and so were you.
