Hear me out - Achaemenid princess Baran who falls for the daughter of a Visayan pearl merchant she meets in the bazaar. At first she's taken in by the sassy merchant who can do tricks and flips and even a sword dance. She's fascinated by the tattoos her and her father wear with pride. But eventually those skills of Trinity's save her life when a mercenary makes an attempt on Baran which leads to Trinity being made Baran's personal guard.
For life.
Totally a hardship for them both, not.
Soulmate AU where you can willingly take on your soulmate's pain.
Baran always assumed her soulmate dealt with chronic pain - not that she willingly put her body through the rigors of olympic-level gymnastics training and now has chronic pain. So she took it on herself to relieve the pain as she was able.
Trinity always assumed her soulmate suffered from chronic headaches so she simply took it on and amped up her caffeine intake to ridiculous levels.
When they finally meet? Baran assumes Dr. Santos is an R2 with a caffeine habit to rival Dr. Shen's surviving on granola bars and 7-11 while Trinity assumes Dr. Al-Hashimi is one of those "pilates soccer moms" who drinks de-caf tea and snacks on almonds.
Trinity smiled down at the 10-year-old they were working on. "Hey bud, can you tell me your name?"
"Sohrab." The boy sniffled as the doctors and nurses worked around him.
"Cool. I'm Dr. Santos. But you can call me Trinity. Do you remember what happened, Sohrab?"
"The big kids were shooting candle fireworks at each other and one hit my shirt. It really hurts." Tears flooded his big, brown eyes and Trinity offered up another reassuring smile.
"I know, buddy. But we're gonna fix you up. You got any breathing trouble? Does the inside of your mouth or nose hurt or feel funny?" He shook his head as the doors to the trauma room opened to reveal a very agitated Dr. Al-Hashimi.
"Maman!!!"
"Sohrab." She was at his side in an instant, whispering soothing words that only a mother could. "How bad?"
Trinity glanced up at Cassie who was busy examining the burns. "Most significant injury is over the left anterior chest and shoulder. Sensation intact throughout. No obvious fractures. No tenderness of the head or neck."
Baran nodded and brushed her fingers through Sohrab's messy curls. "I can't make you feel better or maman's big scary bosses will get very, very mad but everyone here is going to take good care of you, azizam. Especially Dr. Santos."
"Yeah bud, I'll even get you a pop if you're super awesome. I know, I know. Your mom is glaring. But doctors orders or something." She winked at the other doctor before resuming her work.
Dana poked her head in, "Dr. Al-Hashimi, the patient’s father is here..."
"Māmān bāyad bere bā bābā darbāre-ye ahmagh budanesh harf bezane. Be harf-e Doktor Santos gush kon."
"Māmān, barāye dust-dokhtaret kheyli bache-ye khubi misham!" Everyone watched as the unflappable Baran Al-Hashimi blushed before pressing a kiss to her son's forehead and marched out to go speak with her ex-husband.
Baran asks Trinity to move in with her which leads to a confession.
Trinity and Dennis have an apartment still set up so they can make Trinity's family lambanog recipe and Dennis' favorite corn-brew. And maybe liquor for other members of their very old, very small complex.
A little side-hustle.
The only problem?
Distilling liquor is illegal in Pennsylvania for personal use.
Wine and beer? Sure.
Hard liquor? Not so much.

Yolanda comes back to Pittsburgh for a weekend, a few years after her fellowship ends. She attends her nephew's baseball game and runs into the Al-Hashimis (Baran, Trinity, and a baby in a carrier against Trinity's chest) who are there cheering on their son.
Yolanda groaned as she stepped out of her rental - she was in town for her sister's wedding to some rich guy in biotechnology.
Which meant family events.
At least the humidity wouldn't kill her - her poor baby brother had acclimated to the dry air of Nevada and was suffering. Miami and Pittsburgh had similar levels of humidity in the summer so she practically had gills. A point Emilio pointed out repeatedly while he sacrificed her to attend their nephew's baseball game.
"He's getting so good at that!" Yolanda froze mid-step - she recognized that voice. There on the bleachers, dead ahead, sat Trinity Santos and Baran Al-Hashimi. Both had matching ballcaps on with the opposing team's mascot and colors proudly displayed.
"He really is." Baran grinned, an arm wrapped around Trinity's waist.
Like it was the most natural thing in the world.
The closer she got - the more she took in. "Azizam, can you pass the tried mango?"
"Depends." Trinity had a wrap of some sort on, "what do I get for sacrificing a sacred strip?"
Baran leaned in and whispered something in Trinity's ear that made the other woman turn scarlet before she thrust the ziplock bag over. "Thank you, habibi." She smirked and pressed a kiss to Trinity's cheek before leaning forward and cooing to something.
Yolanda used the mental excuse of getting closer to let her nephew know she was here - she was his favorite aunt, after all - when she saw it.

Oncologist! Baran who is so so familiar with death and grief, who has been best friends with some of her patients and lost them to cancer as she tried to fight it off, finding a crying Trinity locked herself in their bathroom on the anniversary of her best friends death.
Trinity talking to her about her friend for the first time since they started dating. Telling Al-Hashimi that even after everything she thought they would both make it. But she lost her. She couldn’t save her.
Baran talking her through her grief. Maybe asking her to share a good memory of her friend. Or just giving her someone to hold onto as she cries.

Bonus: Trinity wanting so badly to gush to her friend about Baran. Wanting them to meet. Wanting to ask her advice for which outfit to wear. But she cant.

I raise your angst and offer: Trinity does in fact gush to her friend about Baran and occasionally asks her advice on which outfit to wear. Sure, she never gets a reply - tombstones and grave sites don't usually offer up many replies. But eventually... eventually she introduces Baran to her friend.
Baran of course takes it with all seriousness and introduces herself properly and promises to make Trinity smile at least once a day.
AU in which Trinity went to Stanford on a full gymnastics scholarship and meets Baran and falls in love.
"Dr. Santos? Trinity? Can you hear me?" Baran crouched in front of the other woman in the Viewing Room. Her pupils were dilated and she was even paler than normal, muscles tense. "Trinity? I need you to tell me what happened..."
The minute she entered the emergency department, Dana had dragged her into a relatively private area. Two men in suits that screamed fed had shown up shortly after Trinity clocked in and asked to speak with her in private.
That had been an hour ago.
"They... I'm..." Trinity tried and failed - breath catching in her throat.
Baran moved slowly, allowing Trinity to track her movements before resting her hands on younger woman's knees. "It's ok. You're safe."
Somehow it was the right and wrong thing to say apparently; something cracked on Trinity's face and tears began to fall. "No, I'm not." She froze when arms wrapped around her and melted.
Neither woman was sure how long they stayed there - or how long it took before Trinity was curled up in Baran's arms on the floor. Baran briefly registered Dana poking her head in to check on them before closing the door. "Tell me what happened? What can I do?"
"They found... pictures. From when I was... from... when... and I'm gonna... they want... I..." Baran held Trinity tighter, tucking her head under her chin. It almost seemed like the tighter Baran squeezed the calmer Trinity became - so Baran continued. "I was... I thought... my coach... I didn't know he took pictures. He's dead. He died. He can't... shouldn't have been able... but he gave them to people before he... and they're online now."
Pittsburg theatre cre puts on a reprise of hadestown.They are know for having am absolutely chaotic backstage where things always seem to be going wrong but always pu on absolutely phenomenonal shows.
Trinity Santos who was a rising star in california but dropped off the face of the earth.Her first ever show back being her playing euridice alongside Baran as Orpheus.Baran was a big shot on Broadway before moving to pittsburg and the theatre community is a bit confused about the change.
Robby as hades,Samira as persephone (not a ship) and Dana as Hermes.Im not sure who the fates would be but probably the other pittlings.
Trinity has absolutely no work ethic when it comes to behind the scenes work.she never wants to run lines and almost always half arses rehearsal.Baran who cannot stand this fact but when opening night comes around she is absolutely stunned by trinity.the other woman's performance leaving her breathless.
Anyway the show goes on and by closing night it's getting harder and harder for baran to pretend like she's not in love with her lazy but brilliant co-star.

Ok hear me out dual citizenship x olympian trinity plus already established barsantos. This is really long but I have a lot of thoughts.
Trinity grew up in the Philippines but came to the US every summer to visit cousins so she doesnt really have an accent because shes been speaking both languages since practically birth. She joined gymnastics super young and really really strived to be the one to bring the Philippines their first gold medal.
She makes it to her first Olympics at 16 with her best friend by her side. She medals but comes just short of gold instead getting 1 bronze and 1 silver. (Its still a super big deal considering the Philippines almost never places at all) Sometime before the next Olympics trinitys friend ODs and trinity is there for it (the one who finds her) but she couldn't do anything to help. This is what starts her looking into being a doctor and specifically emergency medicine.
She makes it to the next Olympics but the pressure gets to her and she doesnt medal this time. It's a very very big deal in the gymnastics community considering she was considered a shoe in for gold and her name was brought up right next to Simon biles. It causes a lot of digging into personal life and pretty soon the OD and subsequently the coach aligations become the talk of the town considering its right off the back of nassar. that plus now being considered 'old' in terms of the next Olympics (24 when they would role around again) it really pushes her to become a doctor.
She decides to go to med school in America and stay with her cousins to get away from all the attention. Because of her Olympic medals and what not she gets a full ride scholarship to NYU and wins a bunch of gold medals for them in pretty much every event shes in plus she does train to get to the olympics again this time on the USA team. Which earns her the opportunity for a P-1A visa. (Special sports visa) it last for 5 years but she had her extended at the very end of med school so she had 10 years with it. She does compete in the Olympics at 24 and this time she medals again winning 2 silvers still just shy of gold. She eventually makes her way to the pitt and cannon all happens.
The whole gymnastics and medalists thing is kept very under wraps considering the articles that come up pretty much all mention the OD and coach.
In this baran and trinity would be daiting for a few months (maybe even a year) when trinity casually mentions needing to update her visa or get a green card. Baran is confused because she didnt know trinity was an immigrant. Trinity tells her shes on a P-1A visa and had gotten it for school and her extension was almost over so she had to choose between her green card and going home. Her original plan was to go back to the Philippines to be a doctor there but now with baran (+huckleberry and the rest of the pitt but she won't admit it) she kinda wants to stay.
They don't really argue about it but baran makes it clear shes staying in the US mostly because of her son but also because she really doesnt wanna leave Pittsburgh and the pitt. Trinity on the other hand is starting to feel super homesick and doesn't like that baran isn't even open to discussing moving even tho she really doesnt even want to. Their disagreement leads to some tension at work that everyone immediately picks up on.
Baran complains about it to Cassie and dana (because they are so friends) and mentions trinitys P-1A visa being up. Princess over hears and because of a few immigrants in her family knows immediately what a P-1A visa is. Que her and perlah doing digging (a basic Google search) and now the two biggest gossips are sitting on the fact that trinity went to three Olympics and got medals. They don't really read the articles so they don't know its something technically bad (if they did they wouldn't have spread the news so quickly).
Eventually the whole pitt knows trinity went to the olympics and it gets back to baran who is slightly pissed off that trinity never told her. She goes looking for trinity and finds her on the roof crying because now everyone knows. She explains to baran why she didn't tell her and now baran feels really bad. So bad she offers to go with trinity back to the Philippines.
But by that point trinity had already decided to stay and was on track to get her green card. Baran feels extra bad now because shes kinda the reason it got out and their problem was already over when she was complaining. So they end up taking a month's long vacation to the Philippines all paid for by baran and baran gets to meet all of trinitys family and its actually really nice.
A/N yes ik that the P-1A visa technically wouldnt work here cause its 5 years and she would never have needed an extension and would have had to choose way earlier but wtv its fanfic
My ears are strapped to my head for this hear me out.
But hear ME OUT - Baran eating carabao mango for the first time. And carioca. And overhearing Trinity's grandmother asking when she's going to produce this mystery grand child and Trinity like "haha Lola no we're not married-" and her grandma just like: oh we can fix that rn.

Trinity having a PCOS flare up, and going into work, because the world doesn’t stop for a woman with a chronic illness, let alone one with childhood trauma who is terrified of being vulnerable. (If I have to suffer, so does Trinity, it’s just the way things work)

Trinity groaned as she pressed the cold can of Redbull to the back of her neck - she was well over her ibuprofen limit for the day but honestly? Her kidneys were replaceable.
Her body? Not so much.
Every god damned joint in her hurt. Her pelvis was on fire and she was 90% certain she'd felt that familiar pop of a cyst-that-wasn't-a-cyst this morning halfway through a patient exam.
Thank god for a high pain tolerance.
"Breathe through the pain, Santos. Breathe through the pain..." It was a chant she was familiar with - she'd been doing it since she was old enough to understand pain. A mantra for her shitty home life and for her shitty gym life.
It's not like she could call out. What was she going to say? Gee, Dana. Can't come in. KO'd by period.
So here she was, hunched over like she was trying to channel some Disney-villain sidekick reminding herself: "No fever. No vomit. No excess blood. We're fine."
"Dr. Santos?" Something on her face must have clued Dr. Al-Hashimi in.
Because she was Dr. Al-Hashimi on the clock.
Not Baran.
And that was how she ended up in North 1 with the blinds down and the door closed, her girlfriend's steady hands moving over her for a patient exam. "I'm fine, Baran. It's just period pain."
"It's not just period pain, Trinity. I've been meaning to bring it up for a bit now. How do we feel about a vaginal ultrasound?" Trinity groaned and dropped her head onto the pillow.
"So you're Dr. Al-Hashimi! It's so lovely to finally meet you!" Baran's brows came together in confusion, glancing at the patient’s surname.
Anderson was an absurdly common surname - not helpful.
"I'm sorry, I don't-"
"Oh-"
The privacy curtain was yanked back unceremoniously to reveal a very prickly Dr. Santos. Baran was halfway through making a mental note to discuss professionalism with the newly minted R3 when the other woman's words caught up with her. "I got the most hilarious call from Dale saying you were trying to clean the gutters at your big age and took a tumble into your begonias. I told you I would get the gutters this weeke-Dr. Al-Hashimi..." The resident’s eyes went wide.
"But how else was I meant to finally meet Dr. Al-Hashimi here?" The older woman asked with a the innocence of someone looking for hot gossip. "It's not like you're going to ask her out before I'm in the ground."
Trinity bonds with Victoria at a bar which somehow leads to a Tiktok livestream and someone commenting that Trinity is basically a raccoon in human skin and probably bites to show affection. Trinity confesses (6 shots in) that she is not, in fact, a biter... but her girlfriend is.
Queue Victoria nearly falling off her stool and becoming an internet sensation - all because she knows the resident is dating Dr. Al-Hashimi.
Trinity comes home from an overnight shift to find Baran eating shredded cheese over the sink listening to a true crime podcast at 6 in the morning.
She pulled up the list on her phone.

Trinity made one joke about needing to put Baran in an elder care facility.

Now the other woman keeps leaving pamphlets for day care groups around for Trinity to find. And she knows Baran is doing it on purpose - she found one rubberbanded to her Redbull in the breakroom fridge.
She even got McKay in on it - coming up to the duo as they're headed to Baran's SUV and asking Baran what the going rate was for MILF babysitters watching R2s.
