HOUSE OF THE DRAGON | 1.09 x 1.10
Alicent Hightower Appreciation Week
↳ Day 7 - Free Choice: Actual footage vs Behind the Scenes (ft. Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke)
viserys was a coward, not stupid. he was well read and had really smart people counseling him. he knew what he was doing the entire time. he married alicent because he wanted her. he knew marrying leana was a better choice, he even verbally acknowledges that when talking to rhaenyra. he knew what he was doing to his own daughter when he neglected her, killed her mother, spent time with alicent knowing full well what otto was up to (another thing he verbally acknowledges when “firing” otto) and even tells her not to tell rhaenyra about their meetings and then marries alicent (his daughter’s best friend, therefore leaving rhaenyra completely isolated). he made rhaenyra his heir but barely talked about it for the rest of his life, never reinforcing his decision even after he had a son. he also never actually taught her or allowed her to do anything/make any decisions and when she tried to be active in the council, he shot her down. he never prepared her to rule, everything she learned was from his poor decision making. this idea that he was dumb or innocent is just another way of excusing him of the blame when, in fact, the entire dance is his fault.
next season i want rhaenyra and alicent to say the most insane shit to each other whenever they share a scene. i want that torn page from the book to be the foreshadowing of the the most wildest love/hate relationship ever seen in westeros. i want rhaenyra to walk up to alicent and grab her by the throat and push her against the wall and say “why did you keep that page all these years” and alicent to be like “because someone i cared for gave it to me” and then stare into each others eyes for like seven minutes straight while all of team black and green are just uncomfortably watching on the sidelines like what the fuck

theres such a focus on Hands with rhaenyra and alicent. they're constantly reaching for each others hands, interlocking fingers, gripping arms. you could tell their story with just the shots of their hands. and doesnt that make sense? when rhaenyra twists her rings and alicent bites her nail beds like their hands deserve some punishment for being empty.
