I like the headcanon that the elves would invite their bargeman to eat, make merry, and practice combat together on occasion after they got to know him, many years after he first took over for his predecessor and had become a widower. The first time he cracks a smile, everyone stops what they’re doing for a second to make certain they actually saw what they think they saw.
