SKIN Ok babies, today we're going to be talking about the one thing we may be able to hide but we aren't able to run from...our skin! We all want naturally radiant blemish free skin..am I right? Well today I want to share some products I use and rules I swear by. Number one rule of maintaining a relationship with your skin is KNOWING your skin. Skin types include, "normal", dry, oily, combination, and sensitive. Take a skin type quiz online and start from there. You'll be able to single out products that work with your skin instead of against your skin once you know what you're working with. Cleansers are your best friends and what do we never do to our best friends? Cross or forget them. Cleansers are the base of your skincare routine. Yes, you should have a skincare routine. If nothing else in your life has stability and consistency..your skincare routine should and will be. My favorite day and night cleanser at the moment is the Foaming Clean Facial Wash by Benefit. On top of it coming in a cute little bottle, I've been able to recommend this cleanser to all skin types. I use it morning and nightly along with my Clarisonic Mia 2 (any spin brush will do the job). If you're looking for more of a Drugstore product, I highly highly recommend using the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Clean Scrub! Because it is a scrub it replaces the need for a spin brush and it completely changes your skin. After landing in New York and realizing I hadn't packed a face wash I ran to the nearest store and picked this up out of random and since then it's stayed a ''must have" in my circle of holy grail products. I highly recommend either or both of these products! Morning washes are just as important as night washes, you want to wash off any bacteria/hair oil your pillow may have transferred onto your face in the middle of the night while you were catching Zs. Also! Wash those pillow cases with your laundry. Every single time. You can never be too clean. Exfoliate your face. Please. Not for me, but for yourself. You'll feel like a whole new bitch after scrubbing away any dead skin that may not be visible to the naked eye but definitely is there! My favorite scrub is one that I make at home, a mixture of brown sugar, vanilla extract, lemon and honey. Don't exfoliate everyday otherwise you'll irritate that pretty skin that we're trying to keep peace with. For those lazy days where we don't feel like making our own scrub but know better than to skip exfoliating, pick up the FREEMAN Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask. So affordable and so worth it! I've gone through bottles of this stuff! I use it everywhere whenever I need a whole scrub down in the shower. You leave it on as a mask for 15 minutes and when you go to rinse off you rub it into your skin and the sugar acts as a scrub! Brilliant huh!! Cleanse before exfoliating! You want to work with a clean canvas before digging out stubborn dirt! Exfoliating in a steamy shower helps open up pores, giving you easier access to dirt and oil while also giving you less of a clean up! Face masks! These things are heaven sent. Don't you agree? My favorite kind of mask is a clay mask. For someone who has pores the size of craters on the moon clay masks are my lifesavers. Why? Clay masks penetrate deep into your skin, they clean out excess oil while minimizing pores. I've gone through dozens of different brand clay masks. From high end to drugstore and none of them really did the job like Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. It comes in a jar and it's a powder. It's recommended to mix it with Apple Cider Vinegar until you get it to a mask consistency. I will warn you that after using this once you might notice a blemish or two a day later BUT all that proves is that it cleaned out your pores and with heavy duty products that's usually the outcome. After using this product once, I instantly fell in love. You can feel the mask tightening on your skin and after washing it off you can see instant results. Skin feels softer, pores are smaller and best of all it leaves you with this radiant glow! I recommend this to everyone who has ever asked me for skin care tips. This is a must have in your bathroom and weekly routine. No matter how hard we try though, there always seems to be that one pimple that you feel emerging out of your skin. Hey! What can I say? Nobody's perfect, not even me and I live and breath skin care. Whenever I feel a pimple about to come and ruin what seems like my entire life I tackle it with a 3 step approach. 1. Before it's actually here and visible to everyone in my path I use Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion. With this product I've noticed that you have to use it before your pimple has sprouted. You want to use this before bed on a blemish you can feel coming up. It's very simple actually, all you do is dip a q tip into the bottle, down to the magical pink stuff and dab the product on the little fucker that wants to ruin you. You're left with a light pink spot on your face which is why I recommend doing it at night before bed that way you're not out and about with spots on your face but if you dare to be different. You go girl! 2. If your blemish has flourished into a full blown angry pimple, drying lotions are out of the question, instead use a Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment.. It does the same as a drying lotion but it includes ingredients that fight infections and spreading. My go to is Peter Thomas Roth's Acne Spot and Area Treatment. This product includes Aloe Vera so even though it's job is to dry out, the Aloe Vera soothes the area. Very handy dandy if you ask me! And last but never least.. 3. Moisturize! Oh babies, I really want you to read and live by this rule right here. Rule number 2: ALWAYS MOISTURIZE. Hydrating your skin is essential to healthy skin. We put so much onto our skin we can often forget how much we're neglecting it. Dry skin = unhappy skin = breakouts. Listen to your skin, I promise your skin tells you exactly what it wants and what it doesn't want. After cleansing, exfoliating, or using a mask I always go for my Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream. Now, I have oily/combination skin and if you know of this product, it is heavy. Very creamy, very thick. This is why I use it in the mornings and why I love it? Because even though it has a thick consistency, it doesn't show on my face. My pores suck it all up and it doesn't leave an oily feel. Greatest hydrating lotion I've ever invested in. For my night routine I use my Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer. It's so much more lightweight and affordable. You could use this product day and night if you'd like. It gets the job done and again, is kept in my circle of holy grail products. I like to use oils. Scratch that I love to use oils. It doesn't matter what your skin type is, skin loves oils too. I use a coconut oil and avocado oil mixture to remove my makeup. Not only does is break down everything within seconds but a little goes a very long way! Mix and match your favorite oils and see how much easier and better your skin feels after using oils for something as simple as removing makeup. Another oil I have found and will not can not put down since I have is..BIO OIL. My loves, listen to me..bio oil has changed my life. After coming across it at ulta and doing a quick review check up on my phone, I grabbed it as quick as possible, checked out and waited until nightfall to perform my night time routine so I could add this into the mix! After 2 weeks of using it every night after my moisturizer, I have noticed a drastic change in my skin. Acne scars are fading, skin tone evening out, softer skin and I have this naturally dewy glow to my skin in the mornings. This oil is known for healing/fading acne scars, stretch marks and "imperfections" and holy shit I'm a fan. A big fan at that. A fan that will never go without this product. Again! I have oily skin and if you do too you may be wondering "Why would I put oil on my oily skin?" Well..I'll tell you why!! Because your skin will suck all of this oil in overnight and will not leave you with more oil to deal with. If anything it has helped reduce my production of oil and like I said caused such a difference in my skin. Now that I've touched the basics of skin care, I'll give you guys some tips I feel have helped me with my skin. Exercising! I'm not saying to take on the gym every single day until your body falls apart but exercising once or twice a week for 15-30 minutes every session is all you need to do to keep your body balanced. When you exercise you sweat out all those toxins in your body that we unnoticeably put in our bodies throughout the day. To go along with hitting the gym or working out at home you want to make sure you wash your face before and after drenching yourself in sweat. Makeup + sweat DO NOT MIX LOVIES! This causes your pores to clog and buildup dirt and grime. Exercising is great and all but you're doing your body no good if you aren't replenishing it with WATER. I know you hear this everywhere and I know it seems so straight forward but a lot of us fail to actually DO IT. HELLO GUYS THE SECRET TO GREAT SKIN REALLY IS WATER. I cannot promise you any of what I have told you will work if you aren't hydrating your body with water. No, not one or two glasses of water a day, I'm talking about 8-12 water bottles or a gallon of water a day. Seems pretty hard at first, I agree. Gradually build up how much water you intake. Meanwhile, if you can, which I recommend you do, cut back on all sodas, teas, and juices. Sugar scrubs are fabulous but sugar in drinks are toxic. You'll notice a change once you've cut out all carbonated, caffeine filled and sugar infested drinks. Another drink I've cut out of my diet is..MILK. Dairy could be what's causing your breakouts or uncontrollable skin. Again, listen to your skin, it's literally screaming what it likes and dislikes to you. Your job is to listen. Try substituting milk for almond milk. Not only is it super tasty but it's lightweight and way healthier than milk. These days, animals are fed hormones so that their food products are super charged, aka cheese and milk have hormones which can throw off your hormones after consumption. Dark spots can take up to 4 months to heal!! Think of it as a bad break up you can't get over right away. At first it seems unpromising but trust me, like a bad break up, you'll wake up one morning and realize it's gone. Don't get discouraged after a week of treatment! Try going a period of time without wearing any makeup. Hey! I'm all for makeup, cake and beat that face all you want babe BUT remember when I said we neglect our skin without realizing it? Yeah. We want to give our face a break every so often. As confident as you feel with makeup, practice being as confident or even more confident without makeup. Not only will your skin thank you but you might notice things about your face that compliment you! Embrace the bare! We are what we eat. Literally. Whatever you consume expect your skin to show it. Cutting out fast food is the first easiest step to a healthier diet. Salt, grease and sugars are your toxic relationships. They've never done anything good for you and they never will. Cut them loose and find better. I keep rubbing alcohol and cotton pads on my nightstand to clean my phone every morning. Your phone builds up so much bacteria from where you may have set it down and having it against your face while having that hour phone call with a girlfriend! Rose water and or witch hazel are such a necessity! These products alone or together help tone and keep the skin feeling refreshed and clean! On a hot day, keep a rose water spray in your bag to sprits all over your face and neck! Lastly, learn to love your skin. No matter what it's going through, embrace and empower it. With all the love I can give Xo Bare Babe
