55 years ago today, on November 8th, 1957, Elvis’ third movie “Jailhouse Rock” opened nationwide. On Variety’s National Box Office Survey it appears at #3 and becomes the fourteenth most successful film of 1957 and pretty impressive if you keep in mind that it started at the end of the year. ” By 1969, the film’s box office gross in the United States and Canada was similar to that of “The Wizard of Oz”. In 2004, “Jailhouse Rock” was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
