🚀Awesome render by @alan_mariscal !🚀 What do you think of this all black P1 with purple and lime green accents? What other color combos would you like to see? A lot of new progress being made can’t wait to share with all of you, outercase is being machined in steel as we speak and we will be one step closer to making this dream a reality!🚀 (at San Francisco, California)
🚀DMLS steel strap insert🚀 this insert allows a secure connection point to the lugs while allowing for thin sections of leather to wrap around the crown. The insert prevents any wear on the leather and creates a unique strap shape that would be nearly impossible without it! (at San Francisco, California)
🚀Barrelhand P1 on the wrist🚀 which strap, left or right? (at San Francisco, California)
🚀New P1 strap🚀left or right? The right is more angular andhas more breathing room for the crown release while the left has a rounded cutout for the crown and sits much closer. Leathers are bison on both but one has a coarser grain than the other (at San Francisco, California)
🚀Close up of the new P1 Strap🚀 beautiful American bison leather hand stitched to match the crown. What other color accents would you like to see? (at San Francisco, California)
🚀top or bottom?🚀 fresh new strap from the talented @stonecreekstraps ! Beautiful hand stitched American bison leather with rolled edges, a black alcantara backing, and a custom DMLS steel insert to prevent wear on the leather. The new strap has more clearance for the crown system and angular lines to match up nicely with the rest of the DMLS architecture along the caseback. Happy Monday ☀️ (at San Francisco, California)
🚀who’s watching the @spacex Falcon Heavy launch tomorrow?🚀 SpaceX is using the same DMLS technology as the P1 to produce their superdraco engine chambers and main oxidizer valve bodies. The future of additive manufacturing is here and will continue to become more prevalent in every industry. This launch will be the worlds most powerful operational rocket by a factor of 2🚀🚀 (at SpaceX)
🚀crown release system through the loupe🚀 here are the Direct metal laser sintered (DMLS) parts in their raw unfinished form. You can see the individual steel print layers as the part is built up in 20 micron increments! Plan on keeping this look on the final piece as it is too damn cool to sand down, however I will be polishing edges to frame this unique texture. You’ll also notice the built in heat sinks performing nicely for this print, I’ll show you guys a comparison next time of what happens when heat sinks aren’t built into the parts. Happy Friday!☀️🍻 (at San Francisco, California)
🚀P1 DMLS lug inserts🚀 why do these parts have lattice structures? These inserts help create a continuous caseback curvature to conform to the wrist, however its thin wall geometries would cause it to warp during The DMLS print due to the intense heat introduced into the system. To remedy this I developed heat sinks built into the part that increase rigidity and dimensional accuracy by distributing the heat evenly across the part and allowing it to cool off more quickly before the next print layer. Happy Thursday ☀️ (at San Francisco, California)
🚀P1 cutaway🚀 side profile of the P1 crown release system with the crown lever highlighted orange. This simple switch arm applies a force to the base of the crown to easily disengage it and set the time while providing a fun mechanical feature on the outside of the watch. Happy Wednesday!☀️ (at San Francisco, California)
🚀A look under the hood🚀 both the crown release housing and the lever arm system are made entirely using a 3d printed steel known as DMLS. The simple lever pushes out the crown with a 3:1 force ratio making it much easier to disengage the crown as opposed to pulling it out. The small hole you see near the top of the lever is an access point that must be water tight and provides the watchmaker a method of removing the movement for servicing (at San Francisco, California)
🚀Barrelhand P1 thruster asssembly🚀 this caseback module is one of the first steps to assembling a P1 and locks critical components into place, including an access point for servicing hidden underneath the DMLS housing. Happy monday! ☀️ (at San Francisco, California)
🚀Simple yet effective crown release system🚀 by moving the lever to the right, a force is applied to the crown to have it engage into time setting mode. The leverage is 3:1 so the switch is much easier to move compared to pulling on a crown. The system is simple and robust, providing a unique and tactile interaction with this mechanical piece of the future!🚀 happy Friday ☀️🍻 (at San Francisco, California)
🚀How to read a P1🚀 Hour indicated at the top of the display followed by the minutes below. To differentiate between 0-30 and 30-60 there is a magnified colorwheel below the minute track. The magnified color indicates the engravings to read. left image reads 8:20 and the right image reads 8:40🚀 (at San Francisco, California)
🚀P1 micro-adjusting lugs🚀 the idea behind it was to create a half step distance between every strap notch, allowing you to micro-adjust the fitment for your wrist. What do you guys think? Project 1 was developed as a low volume research platform for R&D methods, new mechanisms and new materials so that the knowledge gained can be applied to future projects. Happy Friday!☀️ (at San Francisco, California)
🚀Dial depth on the P1🚀 I wanted to create a layered module that has a lot of shadow play and allows you to see the inner workings of the linear cam path mechanism. Although the mechanisms are complex they've been refined to comprise of only 3 moving parts thus increasing reliability, reducing wear and providing a minimal architectural build layout.
