March Updates
Now you can upload PowerPoint files, grade anything. You can setup a grading template that allows you to give the students feedback and grades without them having to submit anything. You just set it up and use the grading template. Thus allowing you to grade a "Performance" or "a coaching session" just some examples. Even easier if you sync them to the iPad and mark anywhere (in a field if necessary) great stuff!
Cloud Submit
Turnitin have just announced that Cloud Submit is now available.
You can now submit via Dropbox or Google Drive, watch their video here
Turnitin Update September 2013
In development (hopefully within the next 3 months)
iPad Pin Code (high) – Security feature to enable a pin code to have to be inserted to stop the data getting in the wrong hands (additional to the iPad password protection)
Colour Printing (medium) Allows the document to be printed in colour
PowerPoint (high) Students will be able to submit power point files, the files will be converted to a print PDF view that can then be evaluated using the turnitin tools.
Cloud Submit (high) Allowing submissions from Google Drive (converts files to PDF from local format) also enables user to upload via Dropbox.
Anyfile type (medium) – will allow you to use Turnitin Grademark to grade a piece of work, even if the actual piece cannot be displayed in the Document Viewer. Allowing the instructor to provide on-paper marks as feedback.
Accept Images (medium) – Allows an image to be accepted and feedback placed on it.
(Hopefully in next 6 months)
Accept Nothing (medium) - Instructors will be able to allow non-file based assessments, such as Physio practical sessions, sports coaching etc.
Turnitin looking at a template which will allow staff to add students name and details etc. to a template but be able to generate feedback
Associate QM with Rubric (medium) – Ability to insert Quick mark against the rubric criteria on a particular place on the piece of work being marked.
Future Visions
Multiple Grading Spaces – For multiple markers, instructors will be able to share spaces or even have their own space within a module, grades can then be shared or kept private (will depend on course teams how they use this)
Context Menu – with the iPad app you get an option as you click on the piece of work to provide a choice of Quickmark, Text or Comment on the fly (context menu). There will be a desktop version with same features.
Add audio comments and walkthrough – Here it will have the ability to provide an audio comment as you apply a comment. This allows several audio comments throughout the work rather than just one as a general comment.
Import rubric from Excel – This will allow developers who create a rubric within Excel to import theirs into the rubric manager
Individual extensions – this will allow the instructor to allow individual students on the roster to have extensions to the due date (separate to enabling the “Accept hand-in after due date”)
Comment on a match – Allows the instructor to show a student the actual work referred to as a match within the originality check and make a comment on it.
June 13 Update
iPad app for Turnitin
Turnitin have sent their app to Apple now and are waiting approval. This may take sometime but I would imagine it will be available for use in our next batch of marking (after September 2013).
I have tested the Beta version and it is really good.
you will be able to use Grademark off-line (without access to internet) and then after when you next connect the grades will be synchronised.
the ability to leave voice comments, leave on paper marks and use rubrics(but you cannot edit rubrics on iPad)
Already in development for some point in 2013:
Students to be able to hand-in via the cloud, Drop box and Google Drive being two areas that they are looking at.
Students to have the ability to print a digital receipt for hand in.
Data from class list of students receiving feedback. (This data will be given on things such as - how many grade marks applied i.e comments, quick marks, if audio feedback was used and if a rubric was applied etc.
work is underway to allow other formats of submission. For example, video and a URL and power point etc
Future Visions:
Grade not to be released from Grademark until students have read a certain amount of feedback.
more statistics for administration
Formative: draft comparison, to allow a previously submitted piece of work and see how much (and what) a student has changed
Ability to have several tutors mark the same paper using their own Grademark area and these would be independently marked but from one submission from the student (If the staff are in the same Module space).
No dates for any of the above have been set but will keep you updated as soon as I know anything.
Beta Release cont:
Turnitin Beta Version 1.0 (149) updated this week, to fixed synchronisation.
May 2013 - iPad Beta released
Turnitin have now released the beta test version for the iPad. The grademark features are similar to the desktop version.
I have tested it using a few scripts and used both Grademark comments, General comments,Audio feedback and a rubric.
Everything has gone well and I have reported my findings to Turnitin. I believe there are some bugs that need fixing but not that many and some of which I found may have been down to operator error!
You need the internet connection initially to get the papers synced to the iPad but then once this is complete away you go......
The major find was that you don't need an internet connection to be able to mark the papers, you just needed the internet connection to sync the grades at the end, thus enabling people to mark all their papers wherever they are located (trains, planes and automobiles!)
You also have the ability to turn the originality report On/Off and it again works the same as the desktop version (you would need internet connections to investigate the findings).
I cannot see why anyone wouldn't want to use this when the Full version comes out. To be honest that cannot be too long away now either. A great experience using this app.
I will notify people as soon as I know anymore.
March Update - webinar feedback

Some New Updates : Summer Changes
1) The Audio Record feature is now available on the new image of our network PC's.
2) New Grademark feature for you to know about. You can now change the colour of the highlight that are associated with comments. This is also available for the linked text to a quick mark comment.
Here is a screen shot:
Here is a video provided by Tabitha from Turnitin (Product Manager).
Turnitin - Alpha iPad testing
I have been lucky enough to be able to test the "Alpha" version of Turnitin on the iPad. I believe this will be done in three or four phases.
The screen looks like the attached screen shot. I have maximized the document for confidentiality reasons.
So,initially they have provided the following

Information
The QuickMark and the Comments banks will come in future versions. I will feedback any more information here when I know more.
Turnitin - Export Comments
We need to export our comment banks to be able to use them in blackboard.
When we move from WebCT to Blackboard our comments/ banks will be left on the old server. So we need to do this before August 4th 2012(that gives us time before Blackboard is released fully).
I will put some screen shots here to help you export the comment banks and then when we use Turnitin in September we will be able to import them into the new Turnitin.
Although Turnitin is available under Blackboard it will be a "new" install - so all the data from WebCT will be on an old server that won't be available under Blackboard.
Also, I would suggest if you want to keep old assignments then you download them to your own area (or shared area should you have one) this can be done at the Assignment inbox screen.
I would expect something from our Learning Information team to come out soon but I wanted people to be aware in case they don't.
So, for "Comment Bank export" see here.
Open up an assignment in Turnitin, click on grademark and click on the spanner to open up the Quickmark manager. (see below steps 1-4)
2.
3. I used the "Punctuation" QUICKMARK set for the example.
4.
you will need this file to import when your logged onto Blackboard.
Remember you need to do this for each of your own "quickmark" sets but not the default ones (they will be available on new system - only back up these if you have made changes to them).
I will post a new blog on how to import a comment bank.
Turnitin - Import Comments
When we have files that have been exported and saved locally ( .qms file) we can import them into Turnitin. This is also the way course teams could share their comments banks.
You need to first know where you saved the .qms file whilst exporting, then you need to follow these 2 steps by going into grademark and clicking on the spanner to open the quickmark sets:
1.
2.
select your file and then click import, this will be placed into the Quickmark set
If you need any help please get in touch with myself or LIS.
Audio Comments
There is now the chance to use "Audio Comments" within Grademark itself.
This is found under the General Comments tab and looks like this:
You need Flash Player version 11.2 installed.
Unfortunately we are awaiting for this to be installed by our technical team, they have to enable this on our network, we await there scheduling!
We can use it on our own PC's at home where we control the ability to download the player.
