An update.
Apologies for my lack of updates for my fic and general artwork, been busy with life, work and lately had something else major just completely put a stop on all my writing once again. Recently had to put down my dog and best friend of countless years, she was 17 yrs old when we had to let her go, and found along the streets of DTLA tied alongside her brother, both barely a year old. My mom found them, initially only wanting to take in one boy dog but just couldn’t leave the other, it was the best decision of our lives to bring them both home.
She was funny and smart, the type of dog to always be so food driven. She ate everything she could reach even if it meant jumping a good 4 feet up to reach it. She always slept in the weirdest positions, sometimes making funny faces where she’d look like she was smiling while kicking and snoring. She was the brightest back then, always finding a way to hide from baths or cuddle under the blankets for the best spots on the bed.
Said our goodbyes yesterday. It was a terrible and difficult choice but when I think about how much she struggled to do her favorite things; running, eating and play… I just knew it was time and only painfully slowing the inevitable given her intense heart murmur, sudden pancreatitis and declining QOL due to her dementia, she wasn’t the same dog anymore and I had to do what was best.
As of now I’m doing what I can to manage.
Trying to not to burst out in tears at work.
Trying not to bed rot for my other dog’s sake.
Trying to keep food down and eat even just a little throughout the day.
But everything just feels dull. Food barely tastes like anything and when it does I just think of her and how much she would’ve loved it. Maybe this will dull from its initial sting one day but for now it’s surreal to wake up to every morning and I only want to sleep as soon as I get home.
Two dogs always felt like a lot to take care of by myself. The cost of food. The bowls to clean. The walks to take. Baths to give. But god I would do it all over again if just one last time. All this dog food and space in my room just feels like too much now.
I was hoping I’d have better news. She was on treatment and I’d hoped to have more consistent updates after this month but they’ll remain sporadic with no set schedule for when they drop. On the same note, I have a Patreon for fan artwork stuffs up too, was excited to share it earlier this month to pay off vet expenses, will probably link it eventually but not today. I had planned to share it for bonus content and just for general support but can’t promise more content besides the few promised upcoming months on it to my Priv Twitter base atm.
As for the fic itself, I still have plans to continue it. Been years strong, a few family deaths, broken bones and worse times but I still feel very passionate about it and adore the community drawn to it too and the happiness it gives me to share my art and writing with you all. I always pictured it as a story of hope; doing what you can with the time you have and making your future your own with the people you love. I hope it resonates that within you guys as much as it does within me—alongside all the pinning and slowburn that is to read too haha.
On the bright side I’ve already got a few rough drafts for future chapters mapped down now that I’ve made further progress on the initial timeline while also making some more consistent changes to it. I hope to share that very soon and hopefully some artwork alongside it once I get to it. Thanks for being understanding and keeping with me for as long as you guys have. If you’re here for the art, it’ll still be here. As for the writing, it’ll be soon too.
Have a nice day. Love yourself folks. And share a pet picture and/or funny animal or two here. Thanks again if you made it this far <3
