She was absolutely exhausted. Of course, it was the best kind of exhausted. An entire day of spending Uncle Ed’s money was probably the best Christmas present she could have given herself, especially since it was buying gifts for her family. And extra especially since Cass had taken her, the two of them all bundled up against Gotham’s harsh cold, trekking around the city with a growing number of bags under their arms. It was nice. Cass was quiet and Wayne Manor was big. Combine that with the fact that Nora didn’t live there all the time, and she was ecstatic for the opportunity to get to know Cass better.
By the end of the day, Nora was a giggling, red-faced mess. She was convinced she had picked out the perfect present for every member of her large extended family — except maybe Tim and Raven, but they were weird, Nora never had any idea what they were doing or what they would like — and was now making her way from Wayne Manor back to her mother’s apartment. “Shoot, did I leave a bag, like, three feet behind me?” she asked, blowing a lock of hair out of her face, “I’m too lazy to turn around and look.”
Bart should have been more covered for winter. He’d wanted to borrow one of Wally’s coats, but it captured him like a marshmallow over a skewer. He was swimming in the fabric and that just wasn’t comfortable. So he was wearing a long sleeved exercise shirt that promised to keep the heat in, but Bart must not have been giving off must heat. He was freezing. Any time that someone wasn’t looking he’d run around to get a little heat energy. Still, this was for family. He’d endure the cold to get them presents.
At the end of the day, Bart was red faced too. From running more than laughing, though. He saw a girl drop a bag, and he waited for her to pick it up but she didn’t seem to notice for a good while. He looked both ways, and, since no one was looking, he sped forward and was not a foot away from her, holding the bag and a big grin. “More like four feet but who’s counting. I’m not. It’d take a tape measure to be sure and it doesn’t really matter so I’ll just hand this to you.”
