I find it really fucking funny that my first ever fan art of Jax vs now both reflect how I felt about her at the time.

When I drew the first one, I did not empathize nor took the time to understand her struggles and furthermore, I was ONLY pointing out her flaws rather than also taking into consideration about her internal struggles as a character - resulting in a fanart that depicts Jax as rather distant. Only shining a light in the parts where I want the viewer to see and keeping everything else in the dark. Which isn’t exactly a bad thing, if anything I think this is how Jax would probably depict herself. Malicious, shameless, cold etc etc

but compare to recently, with the finale I understand her more - which resulted in a fanart that’s rather the opposite of the first one lmao? It’s very brightly lit - shining on the parts thats unpleasant to look at and we also get a closer look at Jax. As I empathize with her more, i wasn’t opposed to depicting her being vulnerable as I were when I drew my first fanart. Jax’s pose feels less stiff than before - it’s more natural and human-like, curling herself so she feels smaller, protecting her face and trying to hide away from the viewer compared to the simple bow I drew.

all of this resulted in an art that was 10 times more unpleasant to look at. I genuinely could never draw something like this if I didn’t analyze Jax’s character more. And I really wanted to draw something as unpleasant as that so fucking badly when I drew the first one but never seem to get it right because I didn’t understand Jax enough to see the actual horrors of her character. But now I can! And it only took…9 months to get there LMAO
