I‘m writing a paper on THG at the moment (focus on Mockingjay) and this might be the most fun paper I‘ve ever written ,& I even found a reason to include a sub-chapter about Johanna Mason , life is good!

katniss is given grace for being a seventeen year old girl thrown into war (as she should!), but gale is never given any grace for being a seventeen year old boy who suffered the exact same way she did all his childhood and then chose to walk into the fight for whatever he had left. gale didn’t have a cinna or an effie; he didn’t see capitol people growing to care for katniss, he saw them walking her to a death match and then dolling her up as a child bride who got pregnant at seventeen. he had three younger siblings and a mother to take care of, he was hunting way before katniss. he’s the revolutionary people want katniss to be when in reality her story is about the effects of war on innocents.

People act like Gale was just as bad as Snow all of the time… the point is that he (and all the other characters) are not black&white and that they are flawed.

All the characters react to these extreme circumstances differently, especially because they are severely traumatized. He wasn’t even fully grown up but was forced to form an opinion of HUGE decisions and live with the consequences . At that age a lot of people would be blinded by there anger and craving for revenge

I HATE when people interpret the career districts (especially district 1) as upper class and generally basically just the capitol with a little bit less money ? Like yes they are better off than 12 but they are still closer to district 12 than the capitol. They are maybe (lower) middle class at best, that is kind of the point.

They are treated a tiny bit better so they are more loyal to the capitol. Also this financial difference between the district leads to them hating (and having a prejudice towards) each other instead of them working together against the capitol

If this Patriot Games goes through, at least we’ll get another Hunger Games novel. It might be 1k pages and be 99% a diatribe calling Trump a knock off President Snow - but we’ll get at least one more piece of Hunger Games media before we fall into fascism

Being a fan of Dystopia novels is genuinely so disturbing at the moment, like WHAT do you mean there are endless amounts of novels warning us about where we could end up if we don’t actively change the path and then the PRESIDENT goes „Oh what if we actually make the Hunger Games real“???

Thinking about how little of her life Katniss managed to keep throughout the war, and how much it matters to me that, amongst the things she salvages and guards as precious, there's Haymitch's spile. How, even when she's mad with rage at him for leaving Peeta behind, she keeps the pearl that Peeta gave her, the one thing that makes her feel close to him, hidden in the spile's parachute. Almost as if Haymitch was guarding him, still. Almost as if she knows he's the one adult that will keep fighting for them, no matter what.

How, after the war, when she recounts the few family treasures that still remain to her, Peeta's and Haymitch's gifts are always, always amongst them.

Underneath the clothes, I keep the few items I had on me when I was lifted from the arena. My mockingjay pin. Peeta’s token, the gold locket with photos of my mother and Prim and Gale inside. A silver parachute that holds a spile for tapping trees, and the pearl Peeta gave me a few hours before I blew out the force field.

My mockingjay pin now lives with Cinna’s outfit, but there’s the gold locket and the silver parachute with the spile and Peeta’s pearl. Johanna Mason is genuinely such an underrated character..

Like the scene where Katniss said to her that she would be a good mockingjay because she wouldn’t need prewritten lines for speeches and Johanna just said yea I wouldn’t need them but I couldn’t be the Mockingjay because nobody likes me (because she can be misunderstood as being mean, and the people that seen her strategy in the games wouldn’t trust her) 💔 Oh my poor girl, I hope she found something at least close to peace

A drag Path, but it‘s Prim who supported Katniss through it all, who was Katniss‘ motivation to become the Mockingjay (so she can be a doctor in a better future) while being doomed from the beginning of the revolution because she represents the past
