Trying to convince people about the authenticity of what I do is tiring already; being a Nigerian shouldn't be another hurdle to cross. I work with a study abroad agency and we partner with government higher institutions in Turkey. Recently we had a lot of African prospects who wanted to know more about what we do and how to enroll. Yesterday, I spent over 3 hours talking to prospects from Liberia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Ghana, The Gambia, and some other African countries. The first thing I had to do was to convince them that the project is authentic and that is understandable because a lot of people have had terrible experiences with scam study abroad agencies. In fact, a Ghanian told me he lost about N4m Ghana Cedis to a Nigerian study abroad agency that turns out to be a scam. My nationality was the second hurdle I had to cross while talking to these people. The fact that I'm a Nigerian working with a Nigerian firm was suspicious. Some of them were not apologetic revealing their doubts about the project. They'd heard terrible things about Nigeria and Nigerians. Some of them had been scammed. HOW WAS CHURCH TODAY? “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” – Genesis 18:19 On Father’s Day, last year, I posted “happy Father’s Day to my mum” on my WhatsApp status and some of my friends asked me why I had to post something like that but some of my friends could relate. They understood what I meant even without having to explain. They had either lost their dad while growing, had a father who only dropped money but didn’t care about what they did with their lives or a father who left them to survive all by themselves. One thing we all shared in common was our mums also had to play the role of daddy. A lot of times you hear things like, “I am what I am because of my mum’s prayer” or “My mum taught me all I know about God”. And as good as these things are, I can’t seem to get over one thing, “where are the fathers?” The above passage shows how much God trusted Abraham; He knew Abraham was a responsible man and not one who just bears the title “Man”. He was a man because he took the responsibility of TEACHING HIS FAMILY. He didn’t just provide; he was the teacher. Church was great by the way. Choir (a group of Yoruba folks) sang a song in Efik language and I didn’t understand one thing from the lyrics. If you didn’t get it, I’m Bassey, I’m supposed to understand everything Efik language. Thank God Pastor came up to ask for the meaning. Na so person for lost for him own language. How was church today? Last week, I had this encounter that I haven't gotten over While I was planning how I would survive the weekend with the little money on me, a man walked up to me to ask for money. He lost his wife some months ago. You could tell he's trying, maybe he's doing something wrong or not doing enough, but you could see he's doing all he knows to do. I watched as a man killed the whole of his pride just to be able to feed his children; I watched as he fought not to break down in tears before me. I told him I didn't have anything on me but asked for his permission to talk to my friend who was with me. I couldn't let him go through the pain of asking another person. I couldn't stand it.
