A little while ago a mutual of mine asked me to rank Boombox’s skins for zem (I had been doing skin rankings for other phighting characters at the time) and ze specifically asked for it in zer inbox. I sent an ask so long I physically DESTROYED his inbox for like three days, and he never answered the ask (presumably because it got deleted or mixed up in there)
Anyways, my opinions on most of Boombox’s skins were unimportant, but my Eggsquersde rant was singlehandedly what made that ask so long, and it was very important to me, so. HERE’S EGGBOX ONLY !!!

Eggsquerade is a strange strange skin to me. Boombox is depicted in bright yellow, with feathers and a bird-like masquerade mask, and shoes and a hat implying he is freshly hatched.
Among the fandom, or maybe just in the throes of my subconscious, he’s seems like a rich millionaire type, the kind of person Pwnatious would be friends with. Despite this, I’ve never thought of Eggbox as particularly irredeemable. Pwnatious exploits and despises the poor pretty explicitly, they are PRISSY, that is a big part of their character.
Eggbox, to me, radiates an air of newness, of immaturity. The type of inphernal born into wealth, extremely insensitive of world issues, but only because he literally wasn’t allowed to learn. He’s horrifically out of touch— (when asked about the starving children in the slums of Craterdust, “There are children starving? But why don’t they just ask their parents for food??”)— but only because he is, as the skin suggests, newly-hatched, barely out of newspawnhood. He’s wet-on-the-nose.
He’s also very Gatsby to me. I think that’s extremely important for my understanding of him. He wants real connection, but he doesn’t understand what that feels like, because he has NEVER had it. He has not felt love, not in a platonic sense, laughing with a friend on a summer day, never in a sensual sense, feeling someone’s arms wrap around him gently, never in a romantic sense, having someone to cherish and admire him. He is so alone. A lost little duckling with no mother to turn to, pretending in his loneliness to fit in with swans.
