1178 ファゴット bassoon
I am sobbing one of our sweet old horn players showed up to rehearsal tonight with a head lamp instead of a stand light. He is too good for this world and I do not deserve to be in his presence.
Day 60 Messiaen Le Merle Noir

Composer: Richard Strauss (1864 - 1949)

More pictures from our dress rehearsal Pt. 2 of 2
In honor of the original post nearing 145K notes (!!!), I wanted to do a remix with Prisma.
What confuses the rest of the band/orchestra about the instruments
Piccolo: How do they manage to hit those high notes without killing their ears?
Flute: Why do they hold their instruments sideways?
Clarinet: Why are they always complaining about reeds?
Saxophone: Why do they keep playing jazz solos at random times?
Oboe: Why are you carrying a knife?
Bassoon: What are you???
Trumpet: How are they so confident in themselves if they don't know any of the notes?
Horn: Why are they always so put together all the time?
Trombone: Why do they keep acting like 6 year olds?
Euphonium: Why are you so offended by being compared to tubas?
Tuba: How do you not get bored by having to play quarter notes all the time?
Violin: Why do you care so much who's violin 1 and who's violin 2?
Viola: Why do you stare at the violins dreamily during rehearsal?
Cello: Why are you always out of tune?
Bass: Why are your parts so boring?
Percussion: How do you manage to play so many different instruments?
Piano: How do you manage to play different things with both your hands?
Accordion: why

Counting rests like
orchestra according to the flutes
flute: so wonderful, what a blessing, we are incredible always
piccolo: where are the earplugs
oboe: thank fuck the person we need to tune to is right next to us bC WE CAN’T HEAR OURSELVES
clarinet: all these flute solos are revenge for you taking all the wind band solos tbh
bassoon: woah, we have a bassoon? didn’t notice…
contrabassoon: who the fuck farted in the back row while the double basses were playing...
trumpet: why do you exist and why is your instrument shinier than mine
french horn: um rude, you can’t have the angry AND the beautiful solos choose one and give the other to ME

violin: THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SOLO IF YOU DID NOT EXIST
violas: eh
cello: so beautiful, too good for this world, too pure
double bass: such majestic elephant sounds, but we’re jealous that you only play 3 different notes most of the time
Some more interesting captions I ran into in this amazing ensemble today.
Joannes Maria Anciuti (1674–1744) Contrabassoon (Milan, 1732)
Joannes Maria Anciuti born in Forni di Sopra near Udine worked in Milan and Venice as a maker of woodwind instruments. He often used precious materials such as ivory, silver, rosewood and grenadilla, an African wood. Like all early contrabassoons and despite a total length of 305 cm, his instrument also has only one kink in the boot joint. The bell joint has the form of a dragon’s head; its tongue vibrates when the instrument is played. Salzburg Museum, inv. no. MI 1247
New, fun musical directions and tempi!
- Face-meltingly fast
- Loud enough to collapse a chest cavity
- At 99.99999% the speed of light (by no means 98%)
- maybe it’s quiet, maybe it’s 4′33″
- like a drunken mob with access to an orchestra
- as if you forgot how to play your instrument
- hurl music at audience and quickly leave the stage
- just fuck me up, fam

the lesbian and gay big apple corps marching band and color guard performs walk the moon’s “shut up and dance” after the orlando vigil at the stonewall inn in nyc. the band had been playing more emotional pieces, but eager to find a moment of joy with their community after the incredible pain and sadness of the last two days, the crowd had demanded an encore performance.
It makes me feel good to see so much of the LGBTQIA community being able to come together like this still and refuse to let the hatred and bigotry out there win
The bigoted and hateful animals of this world will never stop us being who we are, celebrating together, being proud together <3
Look at all of these beautiful gay band geeks. <3
But seriously, I get really choked up about how LGBTQ folk are responding with bravery and joy in themselves, rather than just fear. Because it’s really understandable to be afraid after events like Orlando, not to mention in everyday life, when you’re openly queer. Coming together means making yourself part of a bigger target, and so it’s also an act of defiance. I worry a lot that we’ve lost a lot of the gains that were made since the 60s, but the very existence of groups like this comforts me, and gives me hope. I’m fiercely proud of them.
<3 At times like these it is SO IMPORTANT that we come together in love and support for each other like this and help each other and continue to celebrate who we are…and show that we are not going anywhere, that bigots will not stop us from being proud of being queer or trans or genderfluid <3
where can I find a gay marching band?
