Eddie Munson never thought he’d find himself moving back to California to once again live with his uncle, but here he is, life uprooted, this time tagging along with his mom and younger brother. Santa Carla is a beautiful coastal town, the type many dream of, but nothing is quite as it seems. Rumors of mysterious disappearances plague the town, missing posters litter local bulletin boards, and locals warn not to be caught anywhere secluded after dark. One gorgeous set of hazel eyes he can't stop thinking about, and some quirky new friends of his brother, suddenly have Eddie in for the ride - or die - of his life. Sleep all day, party all night. Never grow old, never die. It’s fun to be a vampire.
The last thing Eddie ever wanted was to move to California.
Well, that may not be entirely true.
Like any self respecting young man (read: alternative Salt of the Earth in Small Town USA), he used to dream of LA. Getting the fuck out of hicksville after graduation, making it big with his band, never again worrying about the cost of food or new boots. More importantly, never having to worry about his mom working herself to the bone, or his brother not being able to attend his dream fancy-schmancy college due to the cost.
So, sure, he'd considered California, in the make-it-big-and-live-the-high-life sort of way.
Instead, he's sitting in the back seat of his mom's beat up old Land Cruiser, staring out the window while his brother cranks the radio.
"Oh hell yeah, I love this song!"
"Language!" Claudia and Eddie chide in unison, which Dustin ignores.
People are strange, when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly, when you're alone
They pass a billboard welcoming them to their new home: Santa Carla.
Eddie turns around to watch the sign fade away, noticing bright red graffiti on the back.
Murder Capital of the World.
Eddie rolls his eyes. Of course his uncle lives somewhere dubbed the murder capital.
I think a lot of what makes fanfiction so magical is writers taking the time to explore tiny elements that were imagined into existence in the source material and then abandoned. It's the deep dive into that t-shirt, the forgotten gift, the nickname, the spare key, the anger they swallowed down, the trauma they supressed, the love they denied, the story that wasn't mainstream enough to make it. It's the little things getting their moment to shine and I fucking love that and I will fight for it always.

A dense retrograde amnesia.
That’s what the doctor has explained to him.
Steve has hit his head hard enough that he damaged part of his brain and he doesn’t remember what happened in the last five years. In his mind, his father is still trying to get him to go on a date with Nancy Wheeler while Robin is still in college and he’s just been expelled. In reality, he has finally come out to his parents and he’s married to the handsome man he saw in his hospital room and who’s now waiting outside, or at least that's what his mom said.
"I'm married." He says again as if repeating it enough times will let him accept the fact that he's married. With a man. A man he doesn't know.
"You haven't been married for long," his mom says, glaring at the nurses who keep checking on him every few hours, "but yes. You're married. His name is Edward Munson, he's the last heir of the Munson family."
The name is somehow familiar, he's definitely the son of a respectable family, the kind of family his father would have approved of, which explains why he accepted his marriage with a man. Still, something is missing, and not only Steve's memories.
Steve tries to stay quiet while he gets ready for work, but Eddie hears him. He keeps his eyes closed and just listens- to Steve grumbling to himself when his hair doesn’t sit quite right, who starts to hum and whisper some catchy song. Eddie turns his sleepy gaze onto Steve as he shuffles around their room- watching quietly as he slips on his clothes, his shoes, a simple chain with Eddie’s ring around his neck. A warm, affectionate smile breaks across his face. Before he leaves, Steve glances at what he expects to be a sleeping Eddie, but instead, he’s met with a rasped, ‘Hey.’ Eddie sits himself up, stretches his arm across Steve’s side of the bed, and reaches, fingers wiggling. Steve crosses the room to cradle his face.
Their foreheads press, noses bump, and Steve brushes his fingers across scars and dimples.
He breathes a quiet,
‘Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.’
Eddie huffs a tired laugh,
‘You know I never mind.’
Because, yeah.
Every morning Steve tries to stay quiet while he gets ready for work, but Eddie always hears him.
Eddie posts a Tiktok from the driver’s seat of his car. It starts with him pulling his mask down to reveal an amused smile and he says, “Shout out to the twenty-something year old girls that defended my husband from harassment at the supermarket today.”
Eddie: That’s great and really brave of you, and I appreciate it, but uh. But it was - I was the person harassing him.
Eddie: I know this sounds bad - I can already hear my PR manager yelling at me - but trust me. He likes it. He looks like he doesn’t but he does.
Eddie: I’ve been bothering him at stores since he worked in a video rental. He likes it.
Eddie: It looks like harassment to you but to him….
au where dustin finds a way to bring Eddie back and kas!Eddie claws himself out of his grave and is all monstrous and fucked up, all sharp teeth and wings and claws, eyes glowing demonic red, snarling and spitting--
And then he hacks up a clump of grave dirt and goes "jeeeeeesus CHRIST it took you fuckers long enough! What the fuck!" And he's completely himself just a demon vampire being
Fancied drawing a cute soft pic where they are all tired out. Did they mean to crash out like that? What will Steve think of his leg hugging tendencies? Or will Eddie blush and mumble to find Steve sleeping practically between his legs?
Almost didn't share this as I wasn't very happy with the faces. But in the end I thought it's not so bad.
