What the heck is an old diving suit doing in that pilot seat..?!
Well, it was rather cozy, after all, but that was besides the point.
“A real human? You’re a sight for sore eyes…”
The Simon-infested suit removed itself from the chair, taking to a standing position.
“It’s a long story, but for now, you can call me Simon.”
“Jesus… That sounds pretty awful, to be frank. Glad you’re alright, for the most part.”
He shifted himself to sit with his back to the wall as well, a bit unaware of the cracked window situation himself.
“Well, like I said, I don’t exactly work here. I live… well, I’m from Toronto, at any rate. If I’m not mistaken, I was part of this brain-scanning program that resulted in a copy of my memory being stored here for about a hundred years. Oh, did I mention that I’m about a hundred years old? Subconsciously, of course.”
Simon inquired, an air of genuine curiosity seemingly about him. He was naive for someone who was practically a time-traveller.
Baxter turned his head showing Simon the wound along his hairline from where he had been smashed in the head. He also pointed to the scar along his nose which was still recovering and bruised from being broken not long ago, “These new marks are courtesy of my old best friend...” Baxter gives a small smile remembering better days, “This whole place has fallen apart... What is the point anymore?”
Baxter grabs a granola bar from his pocket and would open it, eating it slowly with a bit of disgust, “I found a box of these to eat... They’ve been keeping me going but if I don’t get a real meal soon I’m going to fall over from exhaustion...” He would look at Simon, “I’m guessing you don’t exactly need food, do you?”
SOMA (2015) | visual development (x)

…and thank you so very very much for the compliment!

The Simon-infested suit removed itself from the chair, taking to a standing position.
“It’s a long story, but for now, you can call me Simon.”
Baxter would just stand there looking at him with his jaw slacked in shock.
“Hello Simon… I’m Baxter but my friends call me Bax…” He would start to sweat and back up out of the room with the pilot seat and would keep eye contact with the diving suit person and would be ready to shut and stump the door if attacked. Baxter had seen plenty of WAU automations on his way here and wasn’t going to take any chances.
Why is it talking that way? It doesn’t sound like a Mockingbird… Also, the name… Simon? I’ve never met anyone on PATHOS-II named Simon!
He had been told to go to Upsilon for power after Jessica had been injured but he never expected to find something like this. With a free hand on the door panel he would wait for a response.
“Well, it’s especially nice to meet you, considering you’re not some deranged machine that either thinks it’s a human or wants me dead…. again.”
He pondered that. Technically, he was a machine that thought it was a human at one point. Simon was terribly thankful for his own self-awareness, but sometimes it did more bad than good; seldom, of course. His thought process turned back to the conversation with the first human he’d spoken to in about 100 years.
“You wouldn't happen to work here, would you? If not, at least I know I’m not the only tourist, so to speak.”
Baxter would continue to stare at him for what felt like hours but in reality was only a few minutes. Eventually he snapped out of it, struggling to formulate a sentence that made much sense in awe of this completely non-aggressive automation of the WAU, “You’re... You’re not like the other ones.... Good.”
He would step back into the room and then Baxter would swipe his omnitool at the doors terminal closing it and stumping it to protect them both. He couldn’t help but notice the room Simon had been in had a cracked window, something that would be a vulernability if they were attacked at all. Baxter would go into a crouch and would speak to Simon, “Listen man... Everyone thought I was dead... They all...” Baxter felt some emotions boiling to the surface of anger, regret and mostly sadness, “They all died at Lambda and I woke up in a pool of my own blood... I tried to find them but... I was alone.”
Baxter wipes some sweat from his forehead and would sit against the wall of the room, not having much will to move and being starving from constantly having to be on the move and in danger.
Whatever this thing in the Diving Suit is... At least it doesn’t want to hurt me or turn me.
Baxter would look at Simon and say, “What Site were you with? How long you been at Pathos-II?”

SOMA - The Transmissions
SOMA - Transmission #8
If you love SOMA we need you!
If you love SOMA you should make a character from PATHOS-II and a blog for them and join the SOMA RP.
We will be RPing scenarios before the fall of PATHOS-II and after the comet strike and anything past that as well. AU’s are fine but I’m sure I am not the only one more interested in day to day life on PATHOS-II.
Characters I’ve seen that need players:
Simon Jarrett
Imogen Reed
Vanessa Hart
Johan Ross
Mark Sarang
Dorian Cronstadt
Martin Fisher
Baxter Rogers
Brandon Wan
The list goes on but off the top of my head those are some of the most needed characters to get this all started!
I make a movie poster for SOMA: Transmissions.
SOMA – Transmissions
The biggest plot hole for Soma/Transmission for me was in the game they implied Catherine and Reed were more than just colleagues but in the mini series they implied Reed and Golaski were something…. at least at the end when she dies and you see her in the Ark with him embracing
Are you sure Reed wasn’t embracing a cup of miso?
