How To Train Your Dragon (2010) / The Dragon Prince (2018—?) / The Sea Beast (2022)
+
the usage of colour in the sea beast is literally so genius im never gonna look at anything the same again. spiderverse had a similar effect on me, just the artistic VOICE that this movie exudes with its colour palettes is intoxicating
it does contrast and it does it perfectly.
even right down to the fact that red and the inevitable's sails are RED so that they stand out against the ocean and the sky. they manage to make a movie that could be 98% blue and brown so so much more.
its just masterful work. dont even get me started on the soundtrack, framing, character design, and symbolism
Please watch The Sea Beast
The Sea Beast is full of women characters, none that are reduced to be "the woman" pirate/sailor, the only woman in the gang (smurfette) or romantic tropes.
Normally these type of stories are composed of entirely male ensembles, but just look at this group shot where you can see how diverse the characters are. They all look different and unique, from design to voice acting.
Even small roles like the lady driving the carriage - these minor characters that are always male, or the person serving drinks being a man (yes I noticed it people who made this movie!! I see what you did there).
Great movie, can't wait to watch it again today

Me: So because of my income I qualify to use this local food pantry and...
Dad: Yeah, game the system!
Me in my head: Why do you say "Game the system" every time someone in our family needs help from a charity or the government? Are you afraid to admit that maybe we aren't completely self reliant even though your personal politics dictate that the system should work for its citizens and we are citizens lucky enough to be born into the system? Does it baffle you that I have no strong feelings about accepting help affording food? What did the 1980s drill into you? Why did you never accept help, or so you claim? Was it just not there? How many nights did you live off of potatoes and salt because nobody would help you? Would you have even accepted the help? Why do you insist upon seeing accepting aid as a sort of con?
A lot of people I know, even if they're progressive, still see accepting aid as a shameful thing, even if they think that other people should do it, so I'm gonna stop that cycle. *ahem* Hey everyone! I'm going to a food pantry next week so I can eat some bread before I start getting my paycheck and I'm feeling generally neutral about it!
I’ve been looking into affordable housing / low income housing, and I thought I’d feel a lot more self conscious about it, but it isn’t bad? And idk, I guess growing up I always imagined that low income apartments were gonna be in disrepair and dangerous - and then I found out there’s one literally 10 minutes from my house.
It’s fucking W I L D how anti-poor propaganda, no matter how subtle, can impact you. Even if you think you’re a progressive / leftist, you need to check your unconscious biases from time to time.
I knew someone that felt guilty for accepting the child tax credit and I asked them "Well did it help you and your child?" and they were like "Oh, definitely." and it's like well what's the issue, then? You yourself believe in universal basic income. Why are you avoiding what is basically a trial run of that? If you preach about communities helping each other and governments working for their people then you need to be willing to accept that help. It's for you! You don't need to be literally be a starving skeleton before you accept help.
woman character: you don't get it... I am a monster.
guy character: why do you say that? what... what have you done?
me, desperately: please say you killed or tortured someone. say you did morally questionable things. say you drank all the milk but put the carton back in the fridge so your roomate would buy more. anything. just, please, don't say it's because you can't-
woman character, tearfully: I... I can't have children!
me:
I had a dream that Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli were solving a murder mystery in a giant mansion. Legolas kept eating popcorn.
Part II
-The King and The Queen-
Derek : “So…”
Stiles : “What?”
Derek : “I’m your king now”
Stiles : “How did you kn…?”
Derek : “Wanna be my queen?”
Stiles : “///////////”
Derek : “:)”
me : “i just wanna see they do fluffy, adorable, cutie pie, cuddle, hug, kiss, making out, coming out, whatever it is and watch Derek’s sun bright smile like Hoechlin when he with Stiles at the end of this chaos season. dammit i just wanna STEREK so badly”
wHY DOES THIS HAVE JUST 308 NOTES???? THE ENTIRE WORLD SHOULD BE SHARING THIS. CHINA IS LITERALLY COMMITTING THE HOLOCAUST, ONLY THIS TIME ON MUSLIMS AND Y’ALL ARE SILENT?
i have 495 people following me right now, including several mutuals. i better see y’all reblogging.
People might not be reblogging this because the first tweet makes unnecessary (and untrue) Holocaust comparisons. Taken from @nat_slay on Twitter (I don’t know the original source):
The “ways to help” info seems good afaik but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong there too.
As a Jewish person, I appreciate those saying that this is not okay and that it is misinformation. No, 6 million Uyghur Muslims have not been murdered.
And, as a Jewish person, I know that 6 million very well could be murdered. This is not another Shoah, but it very well could become another. As a Jewish person, I feel we must say “never again.”
Never again.
“Never again” does not mean “this event was so uniquely horrible, it could never happen again.” It means “this event was horrible, but not unique. We have to make sure it never happens again.”
Never again.
The Uyghur death count isn’t 6 million, that is misinformation. But “never again” means we have to make sure it doesn’t become 6 million.
If you are not Jewish or Romani, do not draw comparisons to the Holocaust. All that provides is shock value and misinformation. What you can do is support Uyghur Muslims.

It is important to reblog this version, with the commentary from metro and rainbow
“We’re fixing up this spaceship that belongs to our new friend Meap.”
“Meap, he’s the most adorable thing in the world.”
“Really? Are you sure there’s nothing, or no one that’s more adorable?“
“No, not a chance.”
PART 2
“Okay. I jury-rigged Ferb’s old GPS device, to create a cute tracker.”
“It locks on to the cutest thing in the area,”
“so it should lead us right to Meap.”
“Let’s see if we can get a signal.“
“Got something!”
“Oh, that’s probably me. Sorry.”
“No. It’s three miles in that direction.”
Part 3
“Isabella, want to come with me and help me find Meap?“
“Sure!”
“I still haven’t gotten my”
“‘you wouldn’t know cute if it bit your legs off’“
“accomplishment badge.”
“Cool!”
“Let’s go!”
Part 4
“Hmm, I’m having trouble picking up his cute signal.”
“Phineas, since you obviously won’t figure this out on your own,“
“I think I’m the one causing the cute interference.“
“Don’t be silly Isabella.”
“I took into account your cuteness, and adjusted the cute-meter settings accordingly from the beginning.”
“See, look what happens when I change it back to normal.”
Bonus Depiction Of Me Right Now:
Part 5 (from a different episode)
“So, do I know romance or what?”
“what.”
“I said, do I know romance or-”
“I heard you.”
Part 6 (this time with Candace)
“So that’s Uncle Phineas and Ferb as kids?“
“That’s right.”
“And that girl looks like Aunt Isabella.“
“Did you hear that? Aunt Isabella!”
“That means I’m gonna marry Phineas!”
“Or Ferb.”
*clicks tongue*
We didn’t deserve this show
Local kids brutally murder a girl they know
that’s enough emotions for a whole year. ciao
police literally dragged disabled protestors out of the capitol when they were doing a sit-in for healthcare and teargassed + shot blm protestors marching for human rights but try to deescalate and take selfies w armed insurrectionists and people still want to act like the police don’t exist specifically to enforce oppressive systems
