hi! my name is baye (she/her), and I've been a percy jackson fan since 2008 (so, when I was 8 years old... I'm 24 now!). before you follow, here are some things to know about me:

100% multishipper (I'm very open to many things, and I love rarepairs!)

because I'm a multishipper, don't follow me if you don't have your NOTP tag blocked; I'm not "allegiant" to any one ship, and I post about a wide variety of them! consider also blocking: "[notp name]posting", as that's the tag I use when I don't want something to show up in tumblr search engines

I have zero patience for fandom immaturity. if you aren't cool/polite/normal/even-tempered in the way you interact with me, then you aren't the sort of person I'm interested in engaging with 🫶

I'm turbo ADHD and extremely bad at replying to things

I love pjo always and forever, but I'm also riordan critical (including towards characters/ships that I enjoy), and I use the #rr crit tag somewhat frequently. block it out if you don't want to see it!

I've read all pjo books, the kane chronicles, and I'm working my way through magnus chase!

pjo characters are almost always 20+ years old when I draw and write them. I grew up with the characters, and in my heart, they've grown up with me too. if you have a problem with that, I really do not know what to say to you beyond please use the block button - for your own wellbeing?

my blog is like 80% sfw (if I'm posting adult stuff it's still pretty tame + usually under a readmore), but my blog is not specifically intended to be appropriate for minors and it is up to you to be discerning and keep that in mind! In the nicest way possible - I am not and cannot be responsible for protecting you on the internet!

given that it's emphasized over and over again throughout the first series that adulthood is very often totally out of reach for demigods (because they usually die young) I find it super weird that pjo fandom has such a problem with imagining the characters as adults, often because they see it as an "excuse to sexualize a minor" or whatever very strange counterargument they like to employ. not only is it unquestionably fine (and frankly very tame) to sexualize a character you are choosing to envision and depict as an adult (and anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. just point blank wrong and they probably see no issue with the hays code either) but also, it doesn't even have to be always be a sexual thing. imo being interested in how a character exists as an adult (emotionally, professionally, and yes, even sexually) is a very underrated way of engaging with pjo and its aftermath. adulthood is a huge achievement for a demigod. reforms to the demigod world were made specifically to improve their chances of being adults. one of the reasons percy chooses immortality is because he wants to grow up instead of being a kid forever. surely we can be Sane and agree that it is reasonable and fine to explore how these characters are experiencing the adulthood they fought so hard for without clutching our pearls about it

all of this to say I hope one day I stop receiving comments like this on my fics that are clearly tagged and contextualized as post-canon character studies because this is getting ridiculous

like it gets to a point where this is a lack of imagination problem. au where everyone has swapped godly parents or has no powers or any other wildly canon-divergent thing? this makes sense to people. but a character existing as an adult 10 years post-canon is unthinkable. which is troubling since being creative and using your imagination is the bedrock of fandom in general

it’s a shame that the writing in blood of olympus, from the characterization to the prose to the dialogue to the plotting, is just so unreadably bad because there is real potential in hazel and frank helping leo die but it’s hard to feel inspired when the source material just suckssss it reads like a script from one of the mcu sequels

there are so many reasons why the framing of bisexuality as a state of being "half straight/half gay" by straight and non-bi people alike is a terribly reductive interpretation of the experience but the reason why I'm annoyed by it the most is because it predicates bisexuality on the names/"rules" of other sexualities despite bisexuality being such a distinct and varying identity in itself (i.e. no one calls straight people/gay men/etc "half bisexual"). I'm only speaking for myself here and not every bi person who's ever lived but for me the queerness of my sexuality lies in the particular state of being plurisexual, experiencing attractions in numerous directions in a way that monosexuals just don't

it gets to a point where even the question "okay you're bisexual but which gender do you like more?" can feel like a covert attempt to interpret you as still being somewhat gay or somewhat straight, once again falling back into defining bisexuality by its nearness to homosexuality and heterosexuality as if it can't just be its own thing. why do we have to enforce this narrowness on people who experience attraction in such a plural way? why can't you just understand and accept that I'm bi without needing to quantify how straight or gay YOU think I am?

I swear people only have this expectation when it comes to reading because nobody's complaining about 1+ hour long tv episodes, and if they do complain it's because they want less "trimming the fat" in modern television and everyone's like "bring back 30 episode seasons! bring back filler episodes! I want to see my favorite characters have a beach episode! everything is too streamlined and compact and designed to be as easily and speedily digestible as possible!" but if we're talking about books then no people need the story delivered to them on amazon prime 2-day shipping speed

(not sure how to tag this so if thinking too much about death & what happens after you die makes you uncomfortable definitely skip this post)

so I'm thinking about this preacher evangelist from tlt. on the list of things that distinguish the demigod experience from regular mortals - I think it's wild that demigods know for certain that an afterlife in Hades exists and they can probably reasonably estimate where in that afterlife they'll end up while they're still alive

obviously mortals have certain religious beliefs about the afterlife that they believe to be as certain as the color of the sky but percy annabeth and nico have BEEN to the underworld. hazel has ALREADY met with the 3 judges of the underworld and knows what their evaluation of morality looks like. I think that's an understated aspect of being a demigod. mortals can choose what they believe in and choose what they think happens after death but demigods are essentially born into a religion without having a choice, born into a predetermined way of perceiving the world and born to an inevitable afterlife in elysium, asphodel, or punishment

another interesting aspect of this is the added pressure to be a hero. yes camp jupiter is the harsher demigod society but there's more textual evidence that camp half-blood is the more individualistic society, and that its campers are more preoccupied with attaining personal glory - just look at luke and his "where's the glory in repeating what others have done?" quote. more than a few demigods (namely annabeth, clarisse) are shown actively vying for quests in which prove themselves as heroes. I'm not saying that they're only like that because elysium is hanging over their heads, but you can't get into elysium without being deemed righteous and heroic. this means that if you don't want to end up in asphodel, which you know for certain exists, then you simply have to try and be a hero in your lifetime. because of this, and because of the fact that demigods tend to have a short lifespan (and that not everyone is going to have an epic, heroic "death" like 12 year old thalia), I think it might be an uncomfortable unspoken truth around camp that the random 14 year olds who don't return to camp one summer were probably killed in some unremarkable way, and the tragedy of their death continues after they die because they don't even get elysium, they died young without having enough time or opportunities to be heroes, so they just end up in asphodel where they lose their personhood and drift about in a field for the rest of all time
