no photos to give but today i tried long reining millie. she did excellent for a first time. just trying to fill in all the gaps and take our time that the old owner sadly did not do with her. I can tell she is apprehensive about pressure and pain, and I don’t want to reinforce that so the slower the better with her

since elvis had passed the grief has been pretty unbearable however despite this there’s been a slight glimmer of hope with a mare that makes my tumblr name a lie!

she is somewhat of a rescue/abrupt rehoming baby but she’s here to stay and live a great life being a horse and eventually my riding companion.

i originally wanted to name her honey, but after getting in contact with her original owner who lost track of her and finding out her name used to be millie - i have decided millie is more of a suit. we’ve joked her full name is miss millie moo honey pants and I would love to compete her under the name oh honey bee. that way she is not just millie but also honey.

she seems to have been passed around a lot and I get the feeling that she hasn’t always been treated the best, but despite all this she is the sweetest soul and a very expressive horse. i can’t wait to update you on her journey.

so far here are her improvements after two weeks with me - please let me know what you think!

Just a brief and sad update about Return to Sender, AKA my boy Elvis

This last Friday night he sadly passed away in my arms due to a traumatic episode of colic which ended up with his bowels twisted. He was not a surgical candidate. Though he was in immense pain I was able to cuddle him, calm him down and show him he was loved in his final moments

His best friend Elmo has not left Elvis burial, and has lingered and pawed at the ground hoping his brother would return.

Please hug your babies extra tight tonight for me, Elmo and of course our beloved Elvis.

Your time here was short but you will be loved and remembered for eternity.

The slaughter of the Palouse horse by the US government makes me so mad every time I think about it. What do you mean the Nimíipuu people of the Pacific Northwest region were given horses, and quickly became some of the most dedicated and best horse breeders of the area. What do you mean their horses were so amazing in build and conformation that Meriwether Lewis, who was THE LEWIS IN THE LEWIS AND CLARK EXPEDITION, had to make an entire entry in his diary about how great and cool the horses they had were. What do you mean they began to see spots in an otherwise whole colored horse. What do you mean they started to breed these horses to spotted coat colors. What do you mean the fucking US cavalry shot half the population of their horses. What do you mean the rest were sent to go with the rest of the Nimíipuu onto a reservation and forced to breed with draft horses. What do you mean the few that escaped found mustangs and bred with them to stay alive. What do you mean that all we have now are the ancestors of a horse that was amazing in body, build, mind, and color was forcefully eradicated because they were labeled as 'Native breed.' what do you mean they were killed out of racism. All we have left are Appaloosas.

in this au, they all met due to working within the castle grounds.

in this au, celestia is queen, luna is still banished, and twilight is discouraged from making friends as it distracts her from her studies. she is celestia's heir and grew up in the castle.

few updates on SR Return to Sender,

AKA Elvis

He has an ulcerated sore on his eye which I’m currently treating four times a day.. poor thing + gastric ulcers! Super pleased with his new vet as she has been on the ball supporting him ASAP.

He is getting better by the minute <3
